Vitamin A supplementation downregulates ADH1C and ALDH1A1 mRNA expression in weaned beef calves

Our previous studies demonstrated that oral vitamin A supplementation during late-stage pregnancy and the neonatal stage enhances birth weight,growth performance,and mRNA expression related to muscle and preadipocyte development in beef *** alcohol dehydrogenase 1C(ADH1C)c.-64T>C genotype also correlated with vitamin A concentration in beef *** study aimed to investigate the effects of vitamin A supplementation on the muscle development and vitamin A metabolism in weaned beef calves with different ADH1C *** male calves(90 d of age;initial BW:89.03 kg[SD 8.60])were stratified according to ADH1C genotype and vitamin A treatment(duration:3 months)and randomly assigned to 4 groups with a 22 factorial *** A treatments included the following:control(10,000 IU/kg of as-fed,*** type;*** type);treatment(40,000 IU/kg of as-fed,*** type;and *** type).Parameters including BW,FI,blood,longissimus dorsi muscle,and liver status during the experimental period were analyzed using the generalized linear model(GLM)procedure and Tukey's test by SAS 9.4 *** vitamin A was significantly increased(P<0.05)in the vitamin A treatment group at 4 and 6 months of *** type calves showed higher serum vitamin A concentration(P<0.05)than the TC type *** triglyceride and non-esterified fatty acid(NEFA)levels increased(P<0.05)in the treatment group compared with the control at 6 months of ***,BW,ADG and FI showed no differences between the *** addition,mRNA expression in longissimus dorsi muscle revealed upregulation of paired box 7(PAX7)(P<0.05)after the vitamin A treatment period based on biopsy *** ADH1C and aldehyde dehydrogenase(ALDH)1A1 mRNA expression was downregulated(P<0.01)by vitamin A *** TC type of ADH1C showed higher mRNA expression than the TT ***,no effect was observed on adipogenic mRNA expression(preadipocyte factor-1[PREF-1],peroxisome proliferator-activated rece

Time series classification(TSC)has attracted various attention in the community of machine learning and data mining and has many successful applications such as fault detection and product identification in the process of building a smart ***,it is still challenging for the efficiency and accuracy of classification due to complexity,multi-dimension of time *** paper presents a new approach for time series classification based on convolutional neural networks(CNN).The proposed method contains three parts:short-time gap feature extraction,multi-scale local feature learning,and global feature *** the process of short-time gap feature extraction,large kernel filters are employed to extract the features within the short-time gap from the raw time ***,a multi-scale feature extraction technique is applied in the process of multi-scale local feature learning to obtain detailed *** global convolution operation with giant stride is to obtain a robust and global feature *** comprehension features used for classifying are a fusion of short time gap feature representations,local multi-scale feature representations,and global feature *** test the efficiency of the proposed method named multi-scale feature fusion convolutional neural networks(MSFFCNN),we designed,trained MSFFCNN on some public sensors,device,and simulated control time series data *** comparative studies indicate our proposed MSFFCNN outperforms other alternatives,and we also provided a detailed analysis of the proposed MSFFCNN.

Silica thin films synthesized sol–gel process are proposed as flexible encapsulation materials.A sol–gel process provides a dense and stable amorphous silica structure,yielding an extremely high elastic deformation limit of 4.9%and extremely low water vapor transmission rate(WVTR)of 2.90×10^(−4)g/(m^(2)∙day)at 60℃and relative humidity of 85%.The WVTR is not degraded by cyclic bending deformations for the bending radius corresponding to a tensile strain of 3.3%in the silica encapsulation film,implying that the silica thin film is robust against the formation of pinhole-type defects by cyclic bending *** organic solar cells encapsulated with the silica films operate without degradation in power conversion efficiency for 50,000 bending cycles for a bending radius of 6 mm.

Associated factors for a hyperechogenic pancreas on endoscopic ultrasound

AIM: To identify the associated risk factors for hyperechogenic pancreas (HP) which may be observed on endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and to assess the relationship between HP and obesity. METHODS: From January 2007 to December 2007, we prospectively enrolled 524 consecutive adults who were scheduled to undergo EUS. Patients with a history of pancreatic disease or with hepatobiliary or advanced gastrointestinal cancer were excluded. Finally,284 patients were included in the analyses. We further analyzed the risk of HP according to the categories of visceral adipose tissue (VAT) and subcutaneous adipose tissue in 132 patients who underwent abdominal computed tomography scans. RESULTS: On univariate analysis, age older than 60 years, obesity (body mass index > 25 kg/m 2 ), fatty liver, diabetes mellitus, hypertension and hypercholesterolemia were identified as risk factors associated with HP (P < 0.05). On multivariate analysis, fatty liver [P = 0.008, odds ratio (OR) = 2.219], male gender (P = 0.013, OR = 2.636), age older than 60 years (P = 0.001, OR = 2.874) and hypertension (P = 0.044, OR = 2.037) were significantly associated with HP. In the subgroup analysis, VAT was a statistically significant risk factor for HP (P = 0.010, OR = 5.665, lowest quartile vs highest quartile). CONCLUSION: HP observed on EUS was associated with fatty liver, male gender, age older than 60 years, hypertension and VAT.

Glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchored sperm hyaluronidases have long been believed to assist in sperm penetration through the cumulus-oocyte complex(COC);however,their role in mammalian fertilization remains ***,we have shown that hyaluronidase 5(Hyal5)/Hyal7 double-knockout(dKO)mice produce significantly fewer offspring than their wild-type(WT)counterparts because of defective COC *** infertility is mainly caused by a low sperm *** can be further exacerbated by the deficiency of sperm hyaluronidase,which disperses the cumulus cells of the outer layer of the *** the current study,we evaluated the effects of a low count of Hyal-deficient sperm and conditions of ovulated oocytes on the fertilization rate using a mouse *** results demonstrated that a low sperm count further decreases the in vitro fertilization(IVF)rate of Hyal-deficient dKO *** addition,the dKO spermatozoa resulted in a fertilization rate of 12.5%upon fertilizing COCs with a thick cumulus layer,whereas the IVF rate was comparable to that of WT spermatozoa when oocytes with a thin or no cumulus layer were ***,we proved that the IVF rate of dKO spermatozoa could be recovered by adding rat spermatozoa as a source of sperm *** results suggest that a deficiency of proteins involved in fertilization,such as sperm hyal,has a vital role in fertilization.
