the intrinsic synchronization, multi-color outputs and related carrier-envelope phases (CEP) among pulses bring advantages to synchronously pumped femtosecond optical parametric oscillators and the pumping sources for broadband frequency comb generation and ultrashort waveform coherent syn-thesis. In this paper, we discuss our latest research results in this field, which cover the following as-pects: the phase relationship and energy conservation law in an OPO and related experimental verifi-cation; control of the pumping ti:sapphire femtosecond laser's CEP by self-referencing technology, and its repetition-rate locking by piezoelectric transducer (PZt); CEP locking of the pulses from the OPO by beating the non-phase-matched visible outputs against pump supercontinuum to obtain a driving signal for a fast PZt on the OPO end mirror; the generation of a broadband frequency comb spanning from 400 nm to 2.4 μm with 1.2 kHz bandwidth; and the realization of coherent interference between phase controlled pump pulses and signal second harmonic pulses.

For mammalian spermatozoa to exhibit the ability to bind the zona pellucida （ZP） they must undergo three distinct phases of maturation, namely, spermatogenesis （testis）, epididymal maturation （epididymis） and capacitation （female reproductive tract）. An impressive array of spermatozoa surface remodeling events accompany these phases of maturation and appear critical for recognition and adhesion of the outer vestments of the oocyte, a structure known as the ZP. It is becoming increasingly apparent that species-specific zona adhesion is not mediated by a single receptor. Instead, compelling evidence now points toward models implicating a multiplicity of receptor-ligand interactions. this notion is in keeping with emerging research that has shown that there is a dynamic aggregation of proteins believed to be important in sperm-ZP recognition to the regions of sperm that mediate this binding event. Such remodeling may in turn facilitate the assembly of a multimeric zona recognition complex （MZRC）. though formation of MZRCs raises questions regarding the nature of the block to polyspermy, formation and assembly of such a structure would no doubt explain the strenuous maturation process that sperm endure on their sojourn to functional maturity.

the ongoing need to deliver improved safety, productivity and environmental benefit in coal mining presents an open challenge as well as a powerful incentive to develop new and improved solutions. this paper assesses the critical role that enabling technologies have played in the delivery of remote and automated capability for longwall mining. A brief historical account is given to highlight key technical contributions which have influenced the direction and development of present-day longwall technology. the current state of longwall automation is discussed with particular attention drawn to the technologies that enable automated capability. Outcomes are presented from an independently conducted case study that assessed the impact that CSIRO＇s LASC longwall automation research has made to the longwall mining industry in Australia. Importantly, this study reveals how uptake of this innova- tive technology has significantly benefitted coal mine productivity, improved working conditions for personnel and enhanced environmental outcomes. these benefits have been widely adopted with CSIRO automation technology being used in 60 per cent of all Australian underground operations. International deployment of the technology is also emerging. the paper concludes with future challenges and opportunities to highfight the ongoing scope for longwall automation research and development.

AlGaN nanocrystals have emerged as the building blocks of future optoelectronic devices operating in the ultraviolet(UV) spectral range. In this article, we describe the design and performance characteristics of AlGaN nanocrystal UV light-emitting diodes(LEDs) and surface-emitting UV laser diodes. the selective-area epitaxy and structural, optical, and electrical properties of AlGaN nanocrystals are presented. the recent experimental demonstrations of AlGaN nanocrystal LEDs and laser diodes are also discussed.

Soil hydraulic parameters θs,α,n,Ks,L and θr of the van Genuchten-Mualem model were estimated using three pedotransfer functions(PtFs) based on soil properties for surface soils of the largest main tributary catchment(the Jialing River) of the upper Yangtze River in *** soil database was from the second national soil survey of China with a spatial 30 × 30 arc-second *** to the statistical analysis of the differences between the continuous-PtFs-estimated values of soil hydraulic parameters for the study catchment and the reference values for a specific texture class provided in the development database of a specific PtF,best estimations were obtained using the W?sten *** Rawls & Brakenssiek PtF was good estimation for parameter θr that was assumed as zero by W?sten *** established higher θr(0.08%) and lower Ks(20 cm/d) and θs(0.43%) in the mid-downstream area relative to the other areas of the catchment could lead to larger amounts of surface runoff andconsequently provide higher energy to erode ***,these factors provide a supporting explanation for previously reported severe soil erosion occurring in this *** heterogeneity analysis for estimated hydraulic parameters in terms of semivariogram showed that the spatial correlation distance was in the range of 50-80 km and that the spatial variability(sill) was not large except for parameters Ks and *** semi-variance with the exponential model at the zero distance(nugget) was 30%-50% of the *** study provided a practical PtF approach for estimating soil hydraulic properties from soil survey data at a large watershed *** estimation results could provide better insight into the mechanism of surface runoff and soil erosion,which is important to better understand and manage erosion in the catchment.

Entanglement, the Einstein-Podolsky Rosen （EPR） paradox and Bell＇s failure of local-hidden- variable （LHV） theories are three historically famous forms of ＂quantum nonlocality＂. We give experimental criteria for these three forms of nonlocality in multi-particle systems, with the aim of better understanding the transition from microscopic to macroscopic nonlocality. We examine the nonlocality of N separated spin J systems. First, we obtain multipartite Bell inequalities that address the correlation between spin values measured at each site, and then we review spin squeezing inequal- ities that address the degree of reduction in the variance of collective spins. the latter have been particularly useful as a tool for investigating entanglement in Bose Einstein eondensates （BEC）. We present solutions for two topical quantum states： multi-qubit Greenberger-Horne Zeilinger （GHZ） states, and the ground state of a two-well BEC.
