The functionalities and diverse metastable phases of multiferroic BiFeO3(BFO)thin films depend on the misfit *** mixed phase-induced strain relaxation in multiphase BFO thin films is well known,it is unclear whether a singlecrystalline BFO thin film can accommodate misfit strain without the involvement of its ***,understanding the strain relaxation behavior is key to elucidating the lattice strain–property *** this study,a correlative strain analysis based on dark-field inline electron holography(DIH)and quantitative scanning transmission electron microscopy(STEm)was performed to reveal the structural mechanism for strain accommodation of a single-crystalline BFO thin *** nanoscale DIH strain analysis results indicated a random combination of multiple strain states that acted as a primary strain relief,forming irregularly strained *** STEm-based bond length measurement of the corresponding strained nanodomains revealed a unique strain accommodation behavior achieved by a statistical combination of multiple modes of distorted structures on the unit-cell *** globally integrated strain for each nanodomain was estimated to be close to􀀀1.5%,irrespective of the nanoscale strain states,which was consistent with the fully strained BFO film on the SrTiO3 *** functional theory calculations suggested that strain accommodation by the combination of metastable phases was energetically favored compared to single-phase-mediated *** discovery allows a comprehensive understanding of strain accommodation behavior in ferroelectric oxide films,such as BFO,with various low-symmetry polymorphs.

A facile,one-pot,urea solution combustion route was utilized to synthesize highly catalytic ceO2 ***2 prepared under varying thermal conditions was characterized by electron microscopy,energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy,X-ray diffraction,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,infrared and Raman *** the synthesis temperature is raised from 400 to 1000℃,the crystallite size and dspacing of nanoparticles are observed to reduce while cell parameters remain in the same *** size exhibits an accession from~20 to~50 nm along the *** ceO2 nanoparticles are detected as a composite structure of ceO2 and graphitic carbon nitride(g-c3 N4)produced by the pyrolysis of *** the solid carbon particulate oxidation capacity,an outstanding performance is exhibited by ceO2 synthesized at 800℃where the oxidation onset temperature is reduced by 27%compared with the *** superior performance is attributed to the carbon nitride-generated unique ceO2 nanomorphology consolidating ample reactive sites and facilitated oxygen delivery for a highly efficient thermocatalytic *** atmospheric pollution mitigation,synthesis of these ceO2 nanostructures represents a cost effective and convenient abatement technique for carbon particulates in comparison to cost-intensive,environmentally detrimental and noble-metal based techniques.

We propose and demonstrate a passively mode-locked erbium-doped fiber laser(EDFL)based on zinc-oxide/polydimethylsiloxane(ZnO/PDmS)saturable absorber(SA)that evanescently interacts with the light on a tapered *** ZnO/PDmS composite is coated on the whole surface of the tapered fiber to guarantee the maximum efficiency of the SA device,with a measured insertion loss of 0.87 dB and a modulation depth of 6.4%.The proposed laser can generate soliton mode-locking operation at a threshold power of 33.07 *** generated output pulse yields a repetition rate and pulse width of 9.77 mHz and 1.03 ps,*** results indicate that the proposed ZnO/PDmS-clad tapered fiber could be useful as an efficient,compatible,and low-cost SA device for ultrafast laser applications.

We study the interaction of a uniform, cold and collisional plasma with a test charged particle moving off-axis at a constant speed down a cylindrical tube with a resistive thick metallic wall. Upon matching the electromagnetic field components at all interfaces, the induced monopole electromagnetic fields in the plasma are obtained in the frequency domain. An expression for the plasma electric resistance and reactance is derived and analyzed numerically for some representative parameters. Near the plasma resonant frequency, the plasma resistance evolves with frequency like a parallel RLc resonator with peak resistance at the plasma frequency pe, while the plasma reactance can be capacitive or inductive in nature depending on the frequency under consideration.

The Ni(OH)2/SiO2 binary colloid was prepared using Ni(NO3)2.6H2O and (c2H5O)4SiO4 as starting materials and was used to form NiO/SiO2. composite powder by hydrothermal method and desiccant method in open air respectively. multi-walled carbon nanotubes (mWcNTs) were synthesized respectively by chemical vapor deposition using the NiO/SiO2 catalyst prepared by different methods. The phase and morphology of the catalysts and the morphology, output yield and purity of mWcNTs were compared by XRD, TEm and SEm. The results show that the catalyst powder prepared by hydrothermal method, compared with that by desiccant method, is smaller, better dispersion and has stronger catalytic activity. Pure mWcNTs with smaller tube diameter and narrow range could be obtained at a high yield using that NiO/SiO2 powder prepared by hydrothermal method as catalyst.

The aerodynamic loads of wind turbine blades are substantially affected by dynamic stall induced by the variations of the angle of attack of local airfoil *** purpose of the present study is to explore the effect of leading-edge protuberances on the fluctuation of the aerodynamic performances for wind turbine airfoil during dynamic *** experimental investigation is carried out by a direct force measurement technique employing force balance at a Reynolds number Re=2×*** phase-averaged and instantaneous aerodynamic loads of the pitching airfoil,including the baseline and the wavy airfoil,are presented and *** phase-averaged results indicate that the effects of dynamic stall for the wavy airfoil can be delayed or minimized compared to the baseline airfoil,and the negative damping area of the wavy airfoil is significant decreased in full-stall *** effects of leading-edge protuberances are more notable at a higher reduced *** the instantaneous aerodynamic loads of the wavy airfoil,there is an observable reduction in fluctuations compared with baseline ***,spectral analysis is applied to quantitatively undercover the nonstationary features of the instantaneous aerodynamic *** is found that the leading edge protuberances can reduce the harmonics of the aerodynamic force signal,and enhance the stability of the aerodynamic loads under different reduced *** conclusion,leading-edge protuberances are found effective to reduce the fluctuation characteristics of the aerodynamic loads during the dynamic stall process,and help to improve the stability and prolong the service life of the wind turbine blades.

Formation of AuSnx intermetallic compounds （Imcs） in laser reflowed solder joints was investigated. The results showed that few Imcs formed at the solder/0. 1μm Au interface. Needlelike AuSn4 Imcs were observed at the solder/0.5μm Au interface. In Sn-2.0Ag-O,75cu-3,0Bi and Sn-3.5Ag-O.75cu solder joints, when the laser input energy was increased, AuSn4 Imcs changed .from a layer to needlelike or dendritic distribution at the solder/0.9μm Au interface. As for the solder joints with 4.0 μm thickness of Au surface finish on pads, AuSn4 , AuSnx, AuSn Imcs, and Au2Sn phases formed at the interface. moreover, the content of AuSnx Imcs, such as, AuSn4 and AuSn2, which contained high Sn concentration, would become larger as the laser input energy increased. In the Sn-37Pb solder joints with 0.9 μm or 4.0 μm thickness of the Au surface finish on pads, AuSn4 Imcs were in netlike distribution. The interspaces between them were filled with Pb-rich phases.

Highly transparent and preferential c-axis oriented nanocrystalline undoped and A1 doped zinc oxide （AZO） thin films have been deposited onto amorphous glass substrate by spray pyrolysis. The XRD studies reveal that AZO with a hexagonal （wurtzite） crystal structure having （002） preferred orientation is formed. The atomic force microscope （AFm） shows uniform surface topography. The optical band gap values of undoped and AZO thin films were changed from 3.34 to 3.35 eV. The band gap energy and photoluminescence are found to depend on the Al doping. Thermoelectric power measurement shows film having n-type in nature. Dielectric constant and loss （tan δ） were found to be frequency dependent. Interparticle interactions in the deposited films are studied by complex impendence spectroscopy.

We develop a thin-film microstructural model that represents structural markers(i.e.,triple junctions in the two-dimensional projections of the structure of films with columnar grains)in terms of a stochastic,marked point process and the microstructure itself in terms of a grain-boundary *** advantage of this representation is that it is conveniently applicable to the characterization of microstructures obtained from.c.y.tal orientation mapping,leading to a picture of an ensemble of interacting triple junctions,while providing results that inform grain-growth models with experimental *** specifically,calculated quantities such as pair,partial pair and mark correlation functions,along with the microstructural mutual information(entropy),highlight effective triple junction interactions that dictate microstructural *** validate this approach,we characterize microstructures from Al thin films via crystal orientation mapping and formulate an approach,akin to classical density functional theory,to describe grain growth that embodies triple-junction interactions.
