Cardiorespiratory and muscular fitness associations with older adolescent cognitive control

Background:Participation in physical activity supports greater cardiorespiratory fitness(CRF),a correlate of cognitive ***,the relationship between muscular fitness(MF)and cognitive control is less *** present study investigated the differential relationship of CRF and MF with cognitive control in older ***:This cross-sectional study involved students(1517 years old,n=541,43%female)from 20 secondary schools who completed tests of inhibition(modified flanker task),working memory(n-back task),CRF(Progressive Aerobic Cardiovascular Endurance Run),and MF(standing long jump and push-up test).Multilevel analyses tested the association between CRF or MF and cognitive outcomes while accounting for the influence of the other fitness variable and relevant demographic ***:CRF predicted response accuracy during incongruent flanker trials,the condition requiring greater *** the working memory task,CRF predicted greater target accuracy and greater d’scores on the 1-back task,requiring lesser amounts of working *** the 2-back task,which requires greater amounts of working memory,CRF also predicted greater target and non-target accuracy and d’***,MF did not predict any cognitive outcomes after adjustment for ***:CRF was selectively related to better performance during task conditions that require greater amounts of inhibition and working *** finding suggests that CRF,but not MF,may benefit cognitive control in older *** selective influence of CRF on older adolescents’cognition highlights the value of aerobic physical activity.

Si-SiO_2 interface passivation by plasma NH_3 and atomic H

Plasma ammonia treatment at 400 ℃ leads to de-passivation of a fully hydrogenated Si-SiO2 interface, and to passivation of a fully de-hydrogenated Si-SiO2 interface. Plasma NH3 exposure causes irreversible Si surface damage and degradation of thermal stability. Atomic hydrogen exposure, although it results in similar effects on the Si-SiO2 interface, does not introduce additional defects or a decrease of the Si surface thermal stability. The difference between plasma NH3 exposure and atomic H exposure is speculated to be due to either the nitridation of Si-SiO2 interface or radiation damage resulting from plasma NH3 exposure. EPR measurements indicate changes of the paramagnetic defect properties and an increase in the paramagnetic defect density generated by plasma NH3 exposure.

Portable device to assess dynamic accuracy of global positioning system(GPS)receivers used in agricultural aircraft

A device was designed to test the dynamic accuracy of Global Positioning System(GPS)receivers used in agricultural aircraft and other aerial *** system works by directing a sun-reflected light beam from the ground to the aircraft using mirrors.A photo detector points downward from the aircraft to detect the light beam,and photo detection circuitry triggers an event in the guidance system data file at the aircraft’s location corresponding to the precisely georeferenced position on the *** details are presented on the mirror-based light reflection system and photo-electronic circuitry designed to trigger an event in the guidance system’s log *** example application evaluated the horizontal accuracy of a stand-alone GPS receiver by matching dynamic data with data from the aircraft’s guidance *** indicated a 2.16 s lead in position registered by the stand-alone receiver over that registered by the aircraft’s guidance system GPS receiver,which had been previously evaluated to be within 0.13 s of Real-Time Kinematic(RTK)-referenced time and position.

目的肿瘤外科医师对手术技术的改进，使乳腺癌切除术后残留的乳房形态得到改善。以背阔肌皮瓣行乳房再造术效果肯定。本研究将评估不同类型的用于乳房再造术的背阔肌皮瓣的皮岛设计，寻找一种广泛用于修复各种乳腺癌切除术后缺损的背阔肌皮瓣设计算法设计原则。方法本研究回顾性分析自2001年2月至2005年4月收治的单侧或双侧乳腺癌切除术后背阔肌皮瓣乳房再造患者的临床资料。在掌握如下情况的前提下进行再造手术：①术前组织是否经放疗处理；②体质量指数是否〉30；③当前有无吸烟习惯；④之前是否做过腹腔骨盆手术；⑤患者的要求。并对患者依据缺损形式进行分组：①乳房下皱襞完整但皮肤量不足；②乳房下皱襞完整且皮肤量足够；③乳房下皱襞缺损伴或不伴皮肤量不足。根据缺损的不同。设计不同的皮岛来优化手术效果，并减少供区瘢痕形成。结果本组患者54例，共应用64块背阔肌皮瓣行乳房再造术。各组间术后外观美学效果及供区瘢痕形成情况不同。结论本研究制定了一种背阔肌皮瓣乳房再造术的相关算法设计模式。通过对乳腺癌切除术后缺损的准确评价，在利用背阔肌皮瓣进行乳房再造术时，可定向切取皮岛，减少供区瘢痕形成，提高美学效果，获得疗效持久、外观自然、美观的乳房。

Oxidative Stress During Antituberculous Therapy in Young and Elderly Patients

Using allantoin (ATN ) as a marker for reactive oxygen species (ROS), oxidative stress during antituberculous (anti-TB) therapy was compared in 10 young and 9 elderly *** treatment, ATN plasma concentrations in patients were similar to that of volunteers. Administration of a combination of isoniazid (INH ), rifampicin (RIF) and pyrazinamid e (PZA) increased plasma ATN in both groups of patients. ATN concentrations (M± SE) at six hours were higher (P <0.05 ) in elderly than in young patients on day one,8.22 ± 1.50 vs 1.89 ± 0.98 μg/mL); day 30, (5.85 ± 0.82 vs 0.87 ± 0.57 μg/mL; and day 90, (4.84 ± 1.24 vs 0.52 ± 0.50μg/mL). Because total amount of ATN excreted was similar in both groups on the three occasions, more ATN was formed in elderly than young patients. In conclusion, there was more oxidative stress in elderly than young patients. It is thereby suggested that Anti-TB drugs induce formation of ROS and elderly patients are at a greater risk of toxicity probably because of poor antioxidant mechanisms

Climatic and Edaphic Controls on Soil pH in Alpine Grasslands on the Tibetan Plateau,China:A Quantitative Analysis

Soil acidity is an important parameter that can regulate ecosystem structure and ***,a quantitative understanding of the relationships between soil pH and environmental factors remains *** this study,relationships of soil pH with both climatic and edaphic factors in alpine grasslands on the Tibetan Plateau,China were quantified using data obtained from a regional soil survey during *** results showed that soil pH decreased along the gradient of both mean annual temperature and ***,soil pH exhibited consistent negative correlations with soil moisture and silt ***,soil organic and inorganic carbon contents played opposite roles in shaping patterns of soil pH:the accumulation of soil organic matter led to higher soil acidity,while the existence of soil inorganic matter was favorable for maintaining higher soil *** variation partitioning analysis indicated that the combination of climatic and edaphic variables explained 74.3%of the variation in soil *** results suggest that soil pH could be predicted from routinely-measured variables,allowing a robust pedotransfer function to be *** pedotransfer function may facilitate land surface models to generate more reliable predictions on ecosystem structure and function around the world.

SDS-PAGE analysis of whole cell protein and outer memrbane protein patterns of clinical isolates of Burkholderia pseudomallei

Objective:To investigate the banding patterns of whole cell protein(WCP) and outer membrane protein (OMP) of Burkholderia pseudomallei(***) in clinical isolates from patients with melioidosis. Methods:WCP and OMP of of *** in 50 clinical isolates,from 47 patients with melioidosis were prepared and separated by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis(SDS-PAGE) using 10%gels and stained with Coomassie brilliant *** banding patterns were compared by using a laser densitometer and dendrogram. Results:There were 6 different banding patterns of WCP and 2 types of *** 1 -5 WCP had 8 common protein bands at 19.0 - 45.0 kDa with identical OMP *** banding patterns of WCP in type 6 were distinct from the others and also its OMP *** majority of clinical isolates(37/50,74%) were in type 1 *** the remaining isolates,8 were in type 2,2 in type 3,and one each was in type 4 to *** was no significant association between the WCP typing and the demographic or clinical features of the investigated ***:Despite the wide variation of clinical features of melioidosis,the results of this study show that *** had a few differences in the WCP and OMP *** typing of WCP and OMP,using SDS-PAGE analysis,could be an alternative method for phenotypic differentiation in clinical isolates of ***.

Karrikin and Cyanohydrin Smoke Signals Provide Clues to New Endogenous Plant Signaling Compounds

Two new types of signaling compounds have been discovered in wildfire smoke due to their ability to stimulate seed germination. The first discovered were karrikins, which share some structural similarity with the strigol- actone class of plant hormones, and both signal through a common F-box protein. However, karrikins and strigolactones operate through otherwise distinct signaling pathways, each distinguished by a specific a/13 hydrolase protein. Genetic analysis suggests that plants contain endogenous compounds that signal specifically through the karrikin pathway. The other active compounds discovered in smoke are cyanohydrins that release germination-stimulating cyanide upon hydrolysis. Cyanohydrins occur widely in plants and have a role in defense against other organisms, but an additional role in endogenous cyanide signaling should also now be considered.
