Introduction: Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is undoubtedly the commonest androgen disorder in woman’s fertile period and certainly one of the most prevalent causes of anovulation. The syndrome has an estimated prevalence of 4% - 10% among women of childbearing age. Previously, our group demonstrated the effect of gonadal white adipose tissue transplantation from wild-type lean and fertile female mice to isogenic obese anovulatory ob/ob mice. These complex metabolic interrelationships between obesity and PCOS have yet to be fully understood. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of gonadal white adipose tissue (WAT) transplantation from the wild-type lean and fertile female mice to isogenic obese, anovulatory mice (Lep ob/Lep ob) on the expression of glycolysis- and TCA cycle-related genes and obtain a general view of the glucose metabolism in the brain of these animals. Methods: Fifteen ob/ob mice ranging from 2 to 3 months of age were divided into 3 experimental groups: control normal weight (n = 5), obese control (n = 5) and obese 7 days leptin treated (n = 5). The whole brains of the mice were processed for RNA extraction. The samples from each group were used to perform PCR assays using an array plate containing 84 primers to study the glucose metabolism-related genes. Results: The glycolysis- and TCA cycle-related genes were significantly downregulated. The most significantly affected genes were as follows: for glycolysis (fold regulation with p < 0.05):Pgm1,Bpgm,Aldob, andEno3 (119, 45, 18, and 28 times less, respectively);and for the TCA cycle (fold regulation with p < 0.05):Cs,Idh3b, andMdh2 (84, 27, and 37 times less, respectively).Conclusion: The seven-day leptin treated mice show a decrease in the glucose metabolism. These results confirm the ability of the adipose tissue-derived hormone leptin to regulate early crucial genes that are related to glycolysis mechanisms and to the TCA cycle. The incidence of Mycobacterium avium complex pulmonary disease (MACPD) has been globally increasing. The present study aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of clinical characteristics and treatment response among patients in the Amazon region of Brazil and conduct a retrospective cohort study at a prominent referral hospital in the State of Par, Brazil, from 2012 to 2020. The M. avium group represented 58.9% of cases, followed by M. intracellulare (35.7%), M. colombiense (3.6%), and M. chimaera (1.8%). The majority of patients (73.2%) were female and with an average age of 63 years. Primary clinical manifestations included persistent cough and sputum production. The Charlson comorbidity index (CCI) averaged 2.47, with 36.3% of patients having a CCI score equal to higher than 3. Notably, over 70% of patients had received treatment for pulmonary tuberculosis before initiating treatment for MAC infection. The fibrocavitary radiologic form was the most prevalent (55.4%), frequently exhibiting a bilateral distribution (53.6%). Antimicrobial susceptibility revealed a significant prevalence of MAC resistance to drugs in the therapeutic regimen. Despite this, most of the patients experienced clinical improvement (50%). In conclusion, this study highlights a higher prevalence of MAC infections among middle-aged women, with a history of pulmonary tuberculosis treatment and presenting the fibrocavitary radiological form was predominant.

Characteristics and wear behavior of cenosphere dispersed titanium matrix composite developed by powder metallurgy route

The cenosphere dispersed Ti matrix composite was fabricated by powder metallurgy route, and its wear and corrosion behaviors were investigated. The results show that the microstructure of the fabricated composite consists of dispersion of hollow cenosphere particles in a-Ti matrix. The average pore diameter varies from 50 to 150 μm. The presence of porosities is attributed to the damage of cenosphere particles due to the application of load during compaction as well as to the hollow nature of cenospheres. A detailed X-ray diffraction profile of the composites shows the presence of Al2O3, SiO2, TiO2 and α-Ti. The average microhardness of the composite （matrix） varies from HV 1100 to HV 1800 as compared with HV 240 of the as-received substrate. Wear studies show a significant enhancement in wear resistance against hardened steel ball and WC ball compared with that of commercially available Ti-6Al-4V alloy. The wear mechanism was established and presented in detail. The corrosion behavior of the composites in 3.56% NaCl （mass fraction） solution shows that corrosion potential （φcorr） shifts towards nobler direction with improvement in pitting corrosion resistance. However, corrosion rate of the cenosphere dispersed Ti matrix composite increases compared with that of the commercially available Ti-6Al-4V alloy.

Relationship of Anti-Mullerian Hormone to Reproductive Traits in Katahdin Ewes Bred in Late Spring or Fall

Anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) is an endocrine marker for fertility in many species. This study investigated possible correlations between serum AMH concentrations, mean number of lambs born (out-of-season in spring or fall), and estimated breeding values (EBVs) for number of lambs born (NLB), number of lambs weaned (NLW), maternal weaning weight (MWWT), weaning weight (WWT), and maternal index (determined by Sheep Genetics Australia). Blood was collected at breeding from Katahdin ewes between 0.7 and 7 years of age in 2015 (n = 163) for the analysis of serum concentrations of AMH. Anti-Mullerian hormone concentration was either expressed quantitatively or divided into quartiles (AMH Q1 through Q4, with Q1 the lowest and Q4 the highest, pg/ml). Data were analyzed by PROC corr, GLM or chi-squared using SAS. Mean serum AMH was 182 ± 11 pg/ml and ranged from 0 to 1112 pg/ml. There was no correlation between serum AMH and EBVs for NLB, NLW, MWWT, WWT and the maternal index. Serum AMH concentration was similar in ewes in different age categories (P = 0.157). There was a correlation between EBV for NLB (0.29;P = 0.0002) and NLW (0.19;P = 0.013) with average number of lambs born. Ewes in the lowest AMH quartile (Q1) had a lower mean number of offspring born from spring breeding compared with ewes in other AMH quartiles (Q2, Q3, and Q4;P < 0.05). Further study is needed to determine the effectiveness of using serum AMH for selecting ewes for out-of-season (spring) breeding.

Role of multi-parametric MRI of the prostate for screening and staging:Experience with over 1500 cases

Background:Hemodialysis(HD) per se is a risk factor for *** the growing body of evidence on blood-flow restriction(BFR) exercise in HD patients,identification of possible risk factors related to the prothrombotic agent D-dimer is required for the safety and feasibility of this training *** aim of the present study was to identify risk factors associated with higher D-dimer levels and to determine the acute effect of resistance exercise(RE) with BFR on this ***:Two hundred and six HD patients volunteered for this study(all with a glomerular filtration rate of 70 years old),and HD ***,RE+BFR significantly increases D-dimer after 4 *** with borderline baseline D-dimer levels(400-490 ng/mL) displayed increased risk of elevating D-dimer over the normal range(≥500 ng/mL).Conclusion:These results identified factors associated with a heightened prothrombotic state and may assist in the screening process for HD patients who wish to undergo RE+BFR.D-dimer and/or other fibrinolysis factors should be assessed at baseline and throughout the protocol as a precautionary measure to maximize safety during RE+BFR.
