Mindless Intelligence Method for Solving the Tower of Hanoi Problem

Over the past years, more and more attention has been paid to artificial life research. The main object of artificial life research is to explore how to control the environments in which the digital organisms imitating natural life, under complicated competition and evolutionary conditions, develop their own wisdom, which can then be used to solve the problems in the real world. While most of the current researches applied one or another artificial life method to solve real problems, the fundamental mechanism of the emerging process of artificial life is seldom addressed. The research works on genetic algorithms, although bearing fruitful results, could only be deemed as constituting a basic stage in the process of artificial life development. This study proposes a new method of employing artificial life, to complement the contents of the research of mindless intelligence, which is regarded as a bridge linking genetic algorithms to general artificial life. And two important concepts, key manipulating parameters and contribution function in its context, are proposed to expand the mindless intelligence applications, in order to pave the way for the optimal design of an artificial life method, in an attempt to fill the conceptual gap between genetic algorithms and artificial life, and consequently clarifying the artificial life mechanism. As a case study we applied these innovative methods to solve an open problem： the Tower of Hanoi, to attest to the feasibility of our approach, and we have achieved satisfactory results.

In recent years, more attention has been paid on artificial life researches. Artificial life（AL） is a research on regulating gene parameters of digital organisms under complicated problematic environments through natural selections and evolutions to achieve the final emergence of intelligence. Most recent studies focused on solving certain real problems by artificial life methods, yet without much address on the AL life basic mechanism. The real problems are often very complicated, and the proposed methods sometimes seem too simple to handle those problems. This study proposed a new approach in AL research, named ＂generalized artificial life structure（GALS）＂, in which the traditional ＂gene bits＂ in genetic algorithms is first replaced by ＂gene parameters＂, which could appear anywhere in GALS. A modeling procedure is taken to normalize the input data, and AL ＂tissue＂ is innovated to make AL more complex. GALS is anticipated to contribute significantly to the fitness of AL evolution. The formation of ＂tissue＂ begins with some different AL basic cells, and then tissue is produced by the casual selections of one or several of these cells. As a result, the gene parameters, represented by ＂tissues＂, could become highly diversified. This diversification should have obvious effects on improving gene fitness. This study took the innovative method of GALS in a stock forecasting problem under a carefully designed manipulating platform. And the researching results verify that the GALS is successful in improving the gene evolution fitness.

Highly accurate manufacture in machining industry can only be obtained with precise temperature control of the coolant （oil or water）.Machine tool with more accurate,stable and advanced the precision of the working component cannot be developed without appropriate ***,the machine tool coolers are facing the control hunting of cooling temperature and the dramatic variation of heat load in high-accuracy *** main objective of this study is to evaluate the influence of the hot-gas by-pass scheme and suction regulation for capacity control of a machine tool cooler *** this study,experimental investigation on both hot-gas by-pass scheme and suction valve regulation for capacity control has been *** of using capillary tube and thermostatic expansion valve along with different capacity control scheme have been investigated extensively in an environmental testing *** performance and power consumption of the cooler system have been measured and analyzed as well by comparing with different opening percentage of throttling valve under specific coolant *** experimental results reveal that the power consumption will reduce slightly by capacity control using the hot-gas by-pass scheme but the coefficient of performance （COP） of the overall system will *** coolant temperature will result in higher compressor power consumption as *** conducting suction valve regulating for capacity control,energy-saving at 10%-12% can be obtained by using thermostatic expansion valve under different evaporator *** also reveals that suction valve regulation along with adequate choice of thermostatic expansion valve can provide alternative choice for steady capacity control and substantial *** proposed cooler systems with different capacity control schemes are not only more cost-effective than inverter driven system,but also can perform energy-saving and precise temperature control specific for high-accur

Automated, real-time, and continuous techniques for monitoring suspended sediment concentration in rivers and reservoirs can play an important role in the improvement of the quantity and quality of sediment data, and are valuable to the management of water environment, water conservancy, hazard prevention, and water resources. Research in the monitoring techniques has examined the possibility of using the characteristics of dielectric constants for detecting soil moisture and concentration of air-water two-phase flow, based on the fact that dielectric constants of sediment, air and water are different. A capacitance sensor was developed to monitor the silt suspended sediment concentration (SSSC) in a recent study, following the principle that as SSSC increases in the sediment-water mixture, the apparent dielectric constant of the water sample also increases and therefore the capacitance detected by the sensing system also increases. It is demonstrated that the variations in the concentration of silt sediment correlates positively with the variations in observed capacitance in a linear fashion, and correlates negatively with voltage outputs but also in a linear fashion. The correlation coefficients reached above 0.98. The overall errors in estimated concentrations range between 0.26% and 2.91%. Elements in the capacitance sensor system such as the frequencies of the signal generating system, areas of the electrode plates, and effects of sample temperature have also been evaluated. The results illustrated that the capacitance sensor techniques can be applied to monitoring SSSC automatically and continuously. Also, the range of SSSC in the experiment reached 200 kg/m3; therefore, the application of this technique in practical SSSC monitoring is worthy of further research.

AIM:To compare the presentation and impact on qual-ity of life of gastroesophageal reflux disease(GERD)in old and young age ***:Data from adult patients with GERD di-agnosed by endoscopic and symptomic characteristics were collected between January and November *** criteria included combined peptic ulcers,ma-lignancy,prior surgery,antacid medication for more than 2 mo,and *** patients were assigned to the elderly group if they were 65 years or older,or the younger group if they were under 65 *** had completed the GERD impact scale,the Chinese GERD questionnaire,and the SF-36 *** from other cases without endoscopic f ind-ings or symptoms were collected and these subjects comprised the control group in our ***:There were 111 patients with GERD and 44 normal cases:78(70.3%)and 33 patients(29.7%)were in the younger and elderly groups,*** were more female patients(60.3%)in the younger group,and more males(72.7%)in the elderly *** younger cases had more severe and fre-quent typical symptoms than the elderly ***-nif icantly more impairment of daily activities was noted in the younger patients compared with the elderly group,except for physical ***:Elderly patients with GERD were pre-dominantly male with rare presentation of typical symp-toms,and had less impaired quality of life compared with younger patients in a Chinese population.

Protein succinylation is a biochemical reaction in which a succinyl group(-CO-CH2-CH2-CO-)is attached to the lysine residue of a protein *** succinylation plays important regulatory roles in living ***,studies in this field are limited by the difficulty in experimentally identifying the substrate site specificity of lysine *** facilitate this process,several tools have been proposed for the computational identification of succinylated lysine *** this study,we developed an approach to investigate the substrate specificity of lysine succinylated sites based on amino acid *** experimentally verified lysine succinylated sites collected from public resources,the significant differences in position-specific amino acid composition between succinylated and non-succinylated sites were represented using the Two Sample Logo *** findings enabled the adoption of an effective machine learning method,support vector machine,to train a predictive model with not only the amino acid composition,but also the composition of k-spaced amino acid *** the selection of the best model using a ten-fold crossvalidation approach,the selected model significantly outperformed existing tools based on an independent dataset manually extracted from published research ***,the selected model was used to develop a web-based tool,SuccSite,to aid the study of protein *** proteins were used as case studies on the website to demonstrate the effective prediction of succinylation *** will regularly update SuccSite by integrating more experimental *** is freely accessible at http://***/SuccSite/.

Numerical Approach to Film Cooling Effectiveness Over a Plate Surface with Coolant Impingement

The aim of the present study is conducting the numerical approach to a combination of internal jet impingement and external film cooling over a flat plate. A multi-block three-dimensional Navier-Stokes code, CFX 4.4, with k-e turbulence model is used to simulate this complicated thermal-flow structure induced by the interaction of coolant jet and hot cross mainstream. By assuming the adiabatic wall boundary condition on the tested film-cooled plate, both the local and the spanwise-averaged adiabatic film cooling effectiveness are evaluated for comparison of the cooling performance at blowing ratios of Br=0.5, 1.0, and 1.5. Film flow data were obtained from a row of five cylindrical film cooling holes, inclined in angle of 35?and 0?in direction of streamwise and spanwise, respectively. The film cooling hole spacing between adjacent holes is 15 mm for all the holes. Before the coolant flow being injected through individual cooling hole then encountered with the mainstream, an impingement chamber containing an impingement plate with 43 holes is located on the path of coolant flow. Present study also focused on the effect of impingement spacing, 10mm, 20mm, and 30mm. Compare the results, we find the impingement jet has a significant effect on the adiabatic film cooling effectiveness. As the coolant impingement spacing is fixed, results indicated that higher blowing ratio would enhance the local and the spanwise-averaged adiabatic film cooling effectiveness. Moreover, neither uniform nor parabolic distribution of pressure distribution are observed within the coolant hole-pipe.
