Five different types of lowered snow line in alpine valleys

The snow line for the same precipitation event in alpine valleys can vary greatly from valley to valley, even when the valleys are close together. Often this is not due to a difference in air mass, but to a different interaction of topography and topographyrelated meteorological conditions. By knowing the causes of a lowered snow line, we can better understand the differences in snow cover in alpine valleys at the same elevation over short distances or the differences in snow cover between alpine valleys and areas outside the valleys. As different types of lowered snow line respond differently to climate change, we can also understand future changes in snow conditions in alpine valleys. To better understand the process, we observed the temperature conditions during winter precipitation events on the territory of Eastern Julian Alps(Slovenia) over a period of two years, focusing on the height of the zero isotherm. Depending on atmospheric conditions, especially changes in the temperature profile and precipitation intensity during precipitation events, five causes of lowered snow line have been identified. These types can occur individually, but during multi-day snowfall events they occur frequently or in combination.

Bone loss in chronic liver diseases:Could healthy liver be a requirement for good bone health?

Given that the liver is involved in many metabolic mechanisms,it is not surprising that chronic liver disease(CLD)could have numerous *** osteoporosis and increased bone fragility are frequently overlooked complications in CLD *** studies implied that up to one-third of these individuals meet diagnostic criteria for osteopenia or *** publications indicated that CLD-induced bone fragility depends on the etiology,duration,and stage of liver ***,the increased fracture risk in CLD patients puts a severe socioeconomic burden on the health system and urgently requires more effective prevention,diagnosis,and treatment *** pathogenesis of CLD-induced bone loss is multifactorial and still insufficiently understood,especially considering the relative impact of increased bone resorption and reduced bone formation in these *** is essential to note that inconsistent findings regarding bone mineral density measurement were previously reported in these *** mineral density is widely used as the“golden standard”in the clinical assessment of bone fragility although it is not adequate to predict individual fracture ***,microscale bone alterations(bone microstructure,mechanical properties,and cellular indices)were analyzed in CLD *** studies further support the thesis that bone strength could be compromised in CLD individuals,implying that an individualized approach to fracture risk assessment and subsequent therapy is necessary for CLD ***,more well-designed studies are required to solve the bone fragility puzzle in CLD patients.

Hepatocellular carcinoma and musculoskeletal system: A narrative literature review

Musculoskeletal alterations in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)are less common than liver-related ***,they can significantly impact the quality of life and overall prognosis of patients with *** main obstacle in the clinical assessment of HCC-induced musculoskeletal alterations is related to effective and timely diagnosis because these complications are often asym-ptomatic and unapparent during routine clinical *** narrative literature review aimed to provide a comprehensive overview of the contem-porary literature related to the changes in the musculoskeletal system in patients with HCC,focusing on its clinical implications and underlying etiopathogenetic *** bone metastases are the most common skeletal alterations associated with HCC,which could be associated with an increased risk of low-trauma bone ***,previous studies reported that osteopenia,sarcopenia,and myosteatosis are associated with poor clinical outcomes in patients with *** though low bone mineral density and sarcopenia are consistently reported as reliable predictors of pretransplantation and post-transplantation mortality in HCC patients,these complications are frequently overlooked in the clinical management of patients with *** together,contemporary literature suggests that a multidisciplinary approach is essential for early recognition and clinical management of HCC-associated musculoskeletal alterations to improve patient *** research into the mechanisms and treatment options for musculoskeletal complications is warranted to enhance our understanding and clinical management of this aspect of HCC.

Effect of water matrices on removal of veterinary pharmaceuticals by nanofiltration and reverse osmosis membranes

This study explored the removal of five veterinary pharmaceuticals （VPs）（sulfamethoxazole （SMETOX）, trimethoprim （TMP）, ciprofloxacin （CIPRO）, dexamethasone （DEXA） and febantel （FEBA）） from different water matrices （Milli-Q water, model water, tap water and real pharmaceutical wastewater using four types of nanofiltration （NF） membranes （NF90, NF270, NF and HL） and two reverse osmosis （RO） membranes （LFC-1 and XLE）. All VPs were added to different water matrices at a concentration of 10 mg/L. Rejections of VPs and water flux were measured. The rejection increased with increase of molecular weight. The highest rejections were obtained with RO membranes （LFC-1, XLE） and tight NF （NF90） membrane. In general, the rejection of VPs was higher in model water and tap water than in Milli-Q water, but the water flux was lower. This was mainly explained by ion adsorption inside the membranes pores. Narrower pore size counteracted the effect of presence of low concentration of natural organic matter （NOM） in tap water. The NOM was assumed to enhance the adsorption of VPs onto membrane surface, increased the size exclusion and electrostatic repulsion also appeared during the transport. Investigated water matrices had influence on water flux decline due to their complexity.

Non-thermal atmospheric-pressure positive pulsating corona discharge in degradation of textile dye Reactive Blue 19 enhanced by Bi_(2)O_(3) catalyst

In this work,monoclinic Bi_(2)O_(3) was applied for the first time,to the best of our knowledge,as a catalyst in the process of dye degradation by a non-thermal atmospheric-pressure positive pulsating corona *** research focused on the interaction of the plasma-generated species and the catalyst,as well as the role of the catalyst in the degradation *** decomposition of the anthraquinone reactive dye Reactive Blue 19(RB 19) was performed in a selfmade reactor ***_(2)O_(3) was prepared by electrodeposition followed by thermal treatment,and characterized by x-ray diffraction,scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive xray *** was observed that the catalyst promoted decomposition of plasma-generated H_(2)O_(2) into ·OH radicals,the principal dye-degrading reagent,which further attacked the dye *** catalyst improved the decolorization rate by 2.5 times,the energy yield by 93.4%and total organic carbon removal by 7.1%.Excitation of the catalyst mostly occurred through strikes by plasma-generated reactive ions and radical species from the air,accelerated by the electric field,as well as by fast electrons with an energy of up to 15 eV generated by the streamers reaching the liquid *** strikes transferred the energy to the catalyst and created the electrons and holes,which further reacted with H_(2)O_(2) and water,producing ·OH *** was indentified as the primary role of the catalyst in this *** reactions followed pseudo first-order *** of H_(2)O_(2) and the dye degradation rate increased with increase in the input *** optimal catalyst dose was 500 mg·dm^(-3).The decolorization rate was a little lower in river water compared with that in deionized water due to the side reactions of ·OH radicals with organic matter and inorganic ions dissolved in the river water.
