Cryo-copolymerization preparation of dextran-hyaluronate based supermacroporous cryogel scaffolds for tissue engineering applications

Dextran-hyaluronate （Dex-HA） based supermacroporous cryogel scaffolds for soft tissue engineering were prepared by free radical cryo-copolymerization of aqueous solutions containing the dextran methacrylate （Dex-MA） and hyaluronate methacrylate （HA-MA） at various macromonomer concentrations under the freezing condition. It was observed that the suitable total concen- tration of macromonomers for the preparation of Dex-HA cryogel scaffold with satisfied properties was 5% （w/w） at the HA-MA concentration of 1% （w/v）, which was then used to produce the test scaffold. The obtained cryogel scaffold with 5% （w/w） macromonomer solution had high water permeability （5.1 × 10 ^-2m2） and high porosity （92.4%）. The pore diameter examined by scanning electron microscopy （SEM） was in a broad range of 50-135 um with the mean pore diameter of 91 um. Furthermore, the cryogel scaffold also had good elastic nature with the elastic modulus of 17.47±1.44 kPa. The culture of 3T3-L1 preadipocyte within the scaffold was investigated and observed by SEM. Cells clustered on the pore walls and grew inside the scaffold indicating the Dex-HA cryogel scaffold could be a promising porous biomaterial for applications in tissue engineering.

Targeting glioma stem cells： enough to terminate gliomagenesis？

Objective To review the leading roles of glioma stem cells （GSCs） and their sophisticated interactions with other cells in the tissue remodeling process of gliomagenesis. Data sources Published articles about assessing GSCs in tumor initiation, progression, and multiple interactions with other cells in the special microenvironment were selected using PubMed. The search terms were ＂glioma stem cells＂, ＂tumorigenesis＂, and ＂microenvironment＂. Study selection Articles regarding the tissue remodeling of GSCs in gliomagenesis were selected. Results GSCs exhibit enhanced tumor-initiating ability, could reestablish tumor, and were resistant to radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Studying the role of GSCs in gliomagenesis helps to develop targeting therapy against GSCs, which seems to be a cure for gliomas. However, sophisticated interactions between GSCs and their local microenvironment during tumor remodeling, including integrating with partially differentiated tumor cells, GSCs niche, neural stem cells （NSCs）, normal glia, tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes, may obscure the leading role of GSCs during gliomagenesis, and make single targeting therapy unsuccessful. Conclusions Understanding the biological behavious of GSCs and their regulatory mechanisms may directly impact current efforts for more directed therapeutics against the highly aggressive gliomas. For multiple possible sources to turning into GSCs, simply eradicating the existing GSCs is not enough to be a cure for gliomas, blocking the potential sources of GSCs and ameliorating the local tumor inducing/promoting microenvironment should be a reasonable strategy.

Research on the flow stability and noise reduction characteristics of quasi-periodic elastic support skin

Synthesis and formation mechanism of micro/nano flower-like MgCO_3·5H_2O

Micro/nano magnesium carbonate pentahydrate（MgCO3 ·5H2 O） with flower-like morphology was synthesized using magnesite as a substrate and potassium dihydrogen phosphate as an additive. The synthesized samples were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetry and differential scanning calorimetry. The influence of pyrolysis time on crystal morphology was explored. The formation mechanism was investigated on the basis of the characterized results and the crystal structure of MgCO3 ·5H2 O. The results showed that the flower-like MgCO3 ·5H2 O was 1.5-3.0 μm in length and 100-500 nm in diameter and was successfully obtained with a pyrolysis time of 30 min. The formation mechanism of flower-like MgCO3 ·5H2 O is suggested to be the selective adsorption of potassium dihydrogen phosphate on the surface. The process of flower-like crystal growth is as follows： amorphous nanoparticles formation, acicular and rod monocrystal formation, flower-like monocrystal formation, and flower-like polymers（MgCO3 ·5H2 O） crystallization. In the MgCO3 ·5H2 O crystal, the magnesium ion presents two different octahedral coordinations corresponding to2 26 Mg（H O）＋and2 2 2 4 23 [Mg（H O）（CO） ]--, and the chemical formula of the crystal is2 2 6 2 4 23 Mg（H O） Mg（H O）（CO）2.

Environmental Characteristics of Groundwater:an Application of PCA to Water Chemistry Analysis in Yulin

For our investigation into the water quality in Yulin city, we collected 76 typical water samples to be tested for particle quality. By applying a Romani type classification method the groundwater of Yulin city was classified into nine categories by type, i.e., Ca-HCO3, Na-HCO3, Na-HCO3-SO4-Cl, Na-HCO3-SO4, Na-Cl, Na-Cl-HCO3, Na-Ca- HCO3, Ca-Cl-HCO3 and Ca-HCO3-SO4-Cl. A principal component analysis was carried out in order to analyze the groundwater environment. From this analysis we considered that the information collected could be represented by 21 indices from which we extracted seven principal components, which, respectively, accounted for 37.4%, 13.0%, 8.1%, 7.2%, 6.3%, 5.9% and 4.6% of the total variation. The results show that the groundwater environment of this region is largely determined by characteristic components of the natural groundwater background. One part of the water was polluted by leaching/eluviation of solid waste generated from coal mining. Another part of the ground water was contaminated by acid mine water from the coal layer and from improper irrigation. In addition, geological and hydrogeological conditions also cause changes in the water environment.

Growth and yield responses to simulated hail damage in drip-irrigated cotton

The frequent occurrence of hailstorm in Xinjiang affects cotton(Gossypium hirsutum L.)production and causes enormous economic *** indeterminate growth habit of cotton allows for varying degrees of recovery and yield when different hail damage levels occur at different stages,which brings inconvenience to agricultural insurance claims and post-damage ***,this study aimed to elucidate cotton recovery and yield responses to different levels of simulated hail damage at different growth *** levels of hail damage(0,30,60,and 90%)were simulated every 15 d from the five-leaf stage to the boll opening stage in 2018 and 2019,for a total of six times(Ⅰ,Ⅱ,Ⅲ,Ⅳ,Ⅴ,and Ⅵ).The results showed that seed cotton yield decreased as the damage level increased and yield reduction increased when the damage was applied to older plants(for 30,60 and 90% damage levels,yield reduction was 9-17%,22-37% and 48-71%,respectively).One possible reason was that the leaf area index and leaf area duration of plant canopy decreased after hail damage,resulting in a reduction in the accumulation of above-ground ***,when hail damage occurred before bloom,due to the indeterminate growth habit of cotton,the vegetative organs produced a strong compensation ability that promoted the bud *** compensation ability of vegetative organs decreased when hail damage occurred after bloom and the recovery time was too short to promote new boll *** the first study to understand the recovery of cotton after hail damage,it analyzed the leaf area index,leaf area duration,above-ground biomass accumulation and yield,rather than the yield *** findings are of great importance for cotton production as they inform decisions about post-damage management practices,yield forecasts and insurance compensation.
