Influence of Genista Tinctoria L or Methylparaben on Subchronic Toxicity of Bisphenol A in Rats

Objective To evaluate the influence of an extract of Genista tinctoria L. herba （GT） or methylparaben （MP） on histopathological changes and 2 biomarkers of oxidative stress in rats subchronicly exposed to bisphenol A （BPA）. Methods Adult female Wistar rats were orally exposed for 90 d to BPA （50 mg/kg）, BPA＋GT （35 mg isoflavones/kg） or BPA＋MP （250 mg/kg）. Plasma and tissue samples were taken from liver, kidney, thyroid, uterus, ovary, and mammary gland after 30, 60, and 90 d of exposure respectively. Lipid peroxidation and in vivo hydroxyl radical production were evaluated by histological analysis along with malondialdehyde and 2,3-dihydroxybenzoic acid detection. Results The severity of histopathological changes in liver and kidneys was lower after GT treatment than after BPA or BPA＋MP treatment. A minimal thyroid receptor antagonist effect was only observed after BPA＋MP treatment. The abnormal folliculogenesis increased in a time-dependent manner, and the number of corpus luteum decreased. No significant histological alterations were found in the uterus. The mammary gland displayed specific estrogen stimulation changes at all periods. Both MP and GT revealed antioxidant properties reducing lipid peroxidation and BPA-induced hydroxyl radical generation. conclusion GT L. extract ameliorates the toxic effects of BPA and is proved to have antioxidant potential and antitoxic effect. MP has antioxidant properties, but has either no effect or exacerbates the BPA-induced histopathological changes.

This paper presents an algorithmic way of building complex membrane systems by coupling elementary membranes. Its application seems particularly valuable in the case of asynchronous membrane systems, since the resulting membrane system remains asynchronous. The composition method is based on a handshake mechanism implemented by using antiport rules and promoters.

Programmed release of small molecular drugs from polymersomes is of great importance in drug delivery.A significant challenge is to adjust the membrane permeability in a well-controlled ***,we propose a strategy for controlling membrane phase separation by photo-cross-linking of the membrane-forming blocks with different molecular *** synthesized three amphiphilic block copolymers with different membrane-forming blocks,which are poly(ethylene oxide)_(43)-b-poly((ε-caprolactone)_(45)-stat-((α-(cinnamoyloxymethyl)-1,2,3-triazol)caprolactone)_(25))(PEO_(43)-b-P(cL_(45)-stat-cTcL_(25))),PEO_(43)-b-P(cL_(108)-stat-cTcL_(16)),and PEO_(43)-b-PcTcL_(4)-b-PcL_(79).These polymers were self-assembled into polymersomes using either a solvent-switch or powder rehydration method,and the obtained polymersomes were characterized by dynamic light scattering and transmission electron *** the phase separation patterns within the polymersome membranes were investigated by mesoscopic dynamics(MesoDyn)*** further confirm the change of the membrane permeability that resulted from the phase separation within the membrane,doxorubicin,as a small molecular drug,was loaded and released from the *** to the incompatibility between membrane-forming moieties(PcTcL and PcL),phase separation occurs and the release rate can be tuned by controlling the membrane phase pattern or by ***,besides the compacting effect by formation of chemical bonds in the membrane,the cross-linking process can act as a driving force to facilitate the rearrangement and re-orientation of the phase pattern,which also influences the drug release behavior by modulating the cross-membrane distribution of the amorphous PcTcL *** this way,the strategy of focusing on the membrane phase separation for the preparation of the polymersomes with finely tunable drug release rate can be envisioned and designed accordingly,which is of great signifi

Denting Nanospheres with a Short Peptide

Dented n anospheres show promisi ng potential in drug delivery,nano motors,***,it is still challe nging to prepare them by homopolymer self-assembly because of the strict structural requirements of the ***,we propose a strategy for preparing dented nano spheres from homopolymers by co-assembly with a short *** were co-assembled from poly(2-hydroxy-3-((4-(ethoxycarbonyl)phenyl)amino)propyl methacrylate)(PHBzoMA59)and(S)-2-((S)-2-((((9H-fluoren-9-yl)methoxy)carbonyl)amino)-3-phenylpro-panamido)-3-phenyIpropanoic acid(Fmoc-FF-OH).PHBzoMA homopolymers can only self-assemble into nanospheres without dent,and the addition of a short peptide in troduced hydroge n bondi ng and complementary π-π stacki ng interactions led to the final dented nano sphere *** weight fracti ons of the short peptide can be adjusted to regulate the final *** was con firmed that the radius of curvature of the dent on the surface was related to the organic bubble inside the protospheres prepared at critical aggregation concentration(cAc).The orga nic bubble can be adjusted by altering the kind of orga nic solve nt and solution pH,which allowed control over the dented nano sphere *** use of differe nt orga nic solve nts with various polarities allows adjustment of the interfacial tension,and hence the denting *** degree can also be controlled by manipulating the solution pH to(de)protonate the short peptide and ***,the versatility of this method was highlighted by using a differe nt homopolymer and the applicability of the resulting den ted nanospheres was demonstrated by decoration with gold ***,this study provided important insights and a new simple strategy to prepare den ted n anospheres in a con trolled fashion.

Targeting the Inflammation culprit in Patients with Psoriasis/Psoriatic Arthritis and Associated cardiovascular comorbidities. Is the IL-17 Inhibitor the New Kid on the Block?

Despite half-century old, but comprehensive national and international guidance, evidence of clinical effectiveness and widespread agreement on management of risk factors along with sophisticated measures for primary and secondary prevention of major cardiovascular events, cardiovascular disease remains the dominant cause of death and disability world-wide. Life style changes at population-level (e.g., lower salt and saturated fat consumption or reduced/banned amount of industrially-produced trans fatty acids in specific products, etc.) or changes at individual level (e.g., targeting modifiable risk factors/life style changes affecting smoking/tobacco use, poor diet, high blood cholesterol, high blood pressure, insufficient physical activity, overweight/obesity) have reduced coronary heart disease mortality to variable extent in different countries (mostly so reported in Finland, Iceland and Sweden) at the beginning of the new century. Overall, however, cardiovascular mortality is estimated to increase in the next coming years until 2030 at a cost exceeding US $1044 billion. Several decades of status quo are also noted in the therapeutic spectrum of cardiovascular disease, mainly consisting of variations to LDL-c lowering agents, antihypertensives, anticoagulants, antiplatelets and fibrinolytics. Most of the therapeutic interventions are “tertiary” in nature (probably some 60%), meaning that treatment is instituted once the individual has developed a pathologic condition;“secondary prevention” may cover some 25%?-?30% (meant to prevent re-occurrence of the condition or occurrence of complications) while “primary prevention” is left with 10%?-?15% share (most commonly implying life style changes at individual level and rarely pharmacological intervention). For almost three decades, the so-called inflammatory hypothesis has been promoted as a reasonable pathogenetic theory behind initiation and growth of atherosclerotic plaque (Alexander RW, 1994;Ross R, 1999). Longitudinal changes in Sarcopenia criteria in Older Men with Low Skeletal Muscle Mass Index:A 2-Year Observational Study

Purpose Declines in muscle mass and function are inevitable during the aging ***,what is the“normal age appropriate”decline of muscle mass and function?Further,is this decline uniform for muscle mass versus functions or between different functional abilities?Using recognized Sarcopenia criteria[*** muscle mass index(SMI)defined as appendicular skeletal muscle mass/height(kg/m^(2)),handgrip strength,gait velocity],the aim of the present project was to determine corresponding changes in community-dwelling men 70 years+with low SMI over a 2-year *** One hundred and seventy-seven(177)men within the lowest SMI quartile of a recent epidemiologic study(n=965)were included in the 2-year follow-up *** mass was determined via direct-segmental,multi-frequency Bio-Impedance-Analysis,handgrip strength was tested with a Jamar hand-dynamometer and habitual gait speed was assessed with photo sensors applying the 10 m *** SMI,handgrip strength and gait velocity all declined significantly(Pct size,d′0.39-1.17),however,with significantly higher reductions(Pctional compared with morphologic Sarcopenia criteria(P≤0.006).Less expected,handgrip strength featured a fourfold higher decline compared with gait velocity(−12.8±10.9%versus−3.5±9.0%).conclusion We provided evidence for significant non-uniform changes of Sarcopenia criteria in a cohort of community dwell-ing men 70 years+with low *** doubt that this result might be a particularity of the selected cohort;however,studies with other(older)cohorts should address this issue in more *** practical relevance,our data further give implications for the prioritization of interventions that address Sarcopenia criteria in older community-dwelling men.

The weighted quadratic index of biodiversity for pairs of species: a generalization of Rao’s index

The distribution of biodiversity at multiple sites of a region has been traditionally investigated through the additive partitioning of the regional biodiversity, called γ-diversity, into the average within-site biodiversity or α-diversity, and the biodiversity among sites, or β-diversity. The standard additive partitioning of diversity requires the use of a measure of diversity which is a concave function of the relative abundance of species, like the Shannon entropy or the Gini- Simpson index, for instance. When a phylogenetic distance between species is also taken into account, Rao’s quadratic index has been used as a measure of dissimilarity. Rao’s index, however, is not a concave function of the distribution of relative abundance of either individual species or pairs of species and, consequently, only some nonstandard additive partitionings of diversity have been given using this index. The objective of this paper is to show that the weighted quadratic index of biodiversity, a generalization of the weighted Gini-Simpson index to the pairs of species, is a concave function of the joint distribution of the relative abundance of pairs of species and, therefore, may be used in the standard additive partitioning of diversity instead of Rao’s index. The replication property of this new measure is also discussed.
