Background The nationally determined contribution（NDC） presented by Argentina within the framework of the Paris Agreement is aligned with the decisions made in the context of the United Nations Framework Conven-tion on Climate Change（UNFCCC） on the reduction of emissions derived from deforestation and forest degradation, as well as forest carbon conservation（REDD+）. In addition, climate change constitutes one of the greatest threats to forest biodiversity and ecosystem services. However, the soil organic carbon（SOC） stocks of native forests have not been incorporated into the Forest Reference Emission Levels calculations and for conservation planning under cli-mate variability due to a lack of information. The objectives of this study were:（i） to model SOC stocks to 30 cm of native forests at a national scale using climatic, topographic and vegetation as predictor variables, and（ii） to relate SOC stocks with spatial–temporal remotely sensed indices to determine biodiversity conservation concerns due to threats from high inter-annual climate *** We used 1040 forest soil samples（0–30 cm） to generate spatially explicit estimates of SOC native forests in Argentina at a spatial resolution of approximately 200 m. We selected 52 potential predictive environmental covari-ates, which represent key factors for the spatial distribution of SOC. All covariate maps were uploaded to the Google Earth Engine cloud-based computing platform for subsequent modelling. To determine the biodiversity threats from high inter-annual climate variability, we employed the spatial–temporal satellite-derived indices based on Enhanced Vegetation Index（EVI） and land surface temperature（LST） images from Landsat *** SOC model（0–30 cm depth） prediction accounted for 69% of the variation of this soil property across the whole native forest coverage in Argentina. Although mutations in the superoxide dismutase 1 gene account for only a minority of total amyotrophic lateral sclerosis cases,the discovery of this gene has been crucial for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis *** the identification of superoxide dismutase 1 in 1993,the field of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis genetics has considerably widened,improving our understanding of the diverse pathogenic basis of amyotrophic lateral *** this review,we focus on cognitive impairment in superoxide dismutase 1-amyotrophic lateral sclerosis *** has mostly reported that cognition remains intact in superoxide dismutase 1-amyotrophic lateral sclerosis patients,but recent reports highlight frontal lobe function frailty in patients carrying different superoxide dismutase 1-amyotrophic lateral sclerosis *** thoroughly reviewed all the various mutations reported in the literature to contribute to a comprehensive database of superoxide dismutase 1-amyotrophic lateral sclerosis genotype-phenotype *** a resource could ultimately improve our mechanistic understanding of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis,enabling a more robust assessment of how the amyotrophic lateral sclerosis phenotype responds to different variants across genes,which is important for the therapeutic strategy targeting genetic *** in superoxide dismutase 1-amyotrophic lateral sclerosis deserves further longitudinal research since this peculiar frailty in patients with similar mutations can be conditioned by external factors,including environment and other unidentified agents including modifier genes.

Extracellular vesicles have been identified as pivotal mediators of intercellular communication with critical roles in physiological and pathological *** this route,several molecules(e.g.,nucleic acids,proteins,metabolites) can be transferred to proximal and distant targets to convey specific *** vesicle-associated cargo molecules have been proposed as markers of several disease conditions for their potential of tracking down the generating ***,circulating extracellular vesicles may represent biomarkers of dysfunctional cellular quality control systems especially in conditions characterized by the accrual of intracellular misfolded ***,the identification of extracellular vesicles as tools for the delivery of nucleic acids or other cargo molecules to diseased tissues makes these circulating shuttles possible targets for therapeutic *** increasing interest in the study of extracellular vesicles as biomarkers resides mainly in the fact that the identification of peripheral levels of extracellular vesicle-associated proteins might reflect molecular events occurring in hardly accessible tissues,such as the brain,thereby serving as a "brain liquid biopsy".The exploitation of extracellular vesicles for diagnostic and therapeutic purposed might offer unprecedented opportunities to develop personalized ***,we discuss the bright and dark sides of extracellular vesicles in the setting of two main neurodegenerative diseases(i.e.,Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases).A special focus will be placed on the possibility of using extracellular vesicles as biomarkers for the two conditions to enable disease tracking and treatment monitoring.

Interaction network between frugivorous birds and zoochorous plants in cloud forest riparian strips immersed in anthropic landscapes

Worldwide,tropical montane cloud forest is one of the most important and biodiverse ecosystems;however,it is also one of those most threatened by anthropic *** activities lead to a fragmented,deforested landscape with narrow riparian forest strips immersed in an agricultural matrix dominated by ***,we characterize the interaction network between frugivorous birds and zoochorous plants in riparian strips of cloud forest in deforested landscapes of Central Veracruz,*** characterize the network of this mutualistic interaction,we estimated network-and species-level metrics using the Bipartite R ***,modularity and robustness were used to describe network *** measures of degree,closeness,betweenness centrality and their relative contribution to nestedness were used to determine the importance of each bird/plant species to the network’s *** interaction network has 24 species of birds and 30 species of plants,with low connectance(0.11),low nestedness(11.53),and intermediate but not significant modularity(0.49).The bird species most important to network stability were Chlorospingus flavopectus,Myadestes occidentalis,and Catharus *** most important plants were Conostegia xalapensis,***,and Rubus *** robustness varied from 0.36 to 0.86 and its stability is compromised when species of birds or plants with the highest values of centrality are removed,with plant removal more *** strips of cloud forest crossing deforested areas maintain a relatively rich set of birds that disperse the seeds of many forest plants,thus they are crucial to the preservation of this mutualistic network in anthropic *** stability is severely undermined by the loss of any of the few species—whether birds or plants—with high centrality *** most important plants for this stability are pioneer tree and shrub species that provide food for several bird species,and they

Lignocellulosic Micro and Nanofibrillated Cellulose Produced by Steam Explosion for Wood Adhesive Formulations

The reinforcing impact of Lignocellulosic micro and nanofibrillated cellulose(L-MNFCs)obtained from Eucalyp-tus Globulus bark in Urea-Formaldehyde UF adhesive was tested.L-MNFCs were prepared by an environmentally friendly,low-cost process using a combination process involving steam explosion followed by refining and ultra-fine *** L-MNFCs showed a web-like morphology with some aggregates and lignin *** present a mixture of residual fibers and fine elements with a width varying between 5 nm to 20μm,*** effects of the addition of low amounts of L-MNFCs(1%wt.)on the properties of three different adhe-sives(Urea-Formaldehyde UF,Phenol-Formaldehyde PF,and Tannin-Hexamine TH)were studied by the evolution of the pH,the viscosity,and the mechanical *** showed that the viscosity of PF and UF adhesives increased with the addition of L-MNFCs,unlike ***,the addition led to better mechan-ical behavior for the three *** were then prepared using modified UF with L-MNFCs and *** showed that an amount of 1%*** L-MNFCs was sufficient to increase the internal bonding by≈67%,the modulus of elasticity by≈43%,and the modulus of rupture by≈29%.

Saxicolous lichen communities in three basins associated with mining activity in northwestern Argentina

Mining activity affects the vegetation and soils of the ***,the effects of mining activity on saxicolous lichen communities are less ***,the aim of this study was to characterize saxicolous lichen communities in three basins(Vis-Vis River basin,Poteros River basin,and Capillitas River basin)surrounding metalliferous mining projects of different types of operation and at different stages of exploitation.A large-scale mine(Bajo de la Alumbrera)with more than 25 a of open-pit mining located in the Vis-Vis River basin(CRV).A pre-exploitation mine(Agua Rica)located in the Poteros River basin(CRP),and a small-scale mine(Minas Capillitas)with more than 160 a of underground mining located in the Capillitas River basin(CAC).In each basin,species richness,cover,and frequency of lichen communities were measured on 40 rock ***,explanatory variables were recorded,i.e.,altitude,slope,aspect,vegetation cover,rock,and soil cover around the rocky area *** and total cover of lichen communities were analysed using linear models,and species composition was explored using multivariate ordination *** showed that a total of 118 lichen species were *** species richness differed among basins and the lichen composition present in areas close to mining sites responded mainly to basins,altitude,and microsite *** lichen cover showed no difference among basins,but it changed under different rock and vegetation *** was not possible to quantify the effects of mining activity on species richness and ***,the low richness values found in the downstream of Minera Alumbrera could be associated with the negative impact of open-pit ***,the effects of large-scale mining activity on lichen communities needs more investigation.
