BACKGROUND Advances in implant material and design have allowed for improvements in total knee arthroplasty(TKA)outcomes.A cruciate retaining(CR)TKA provides the least constraint of TKA designs by preserving the native posterior cruciate *** research exists that has examined clinical outcomes or patient reported outcome measures(PROms)of a large cohort of patients undergoing a CR TKA utilizing a kinematically designed *** was hypothesized that the studied CR Knee System would demonstrate favorable outcomes and a clinically significant improvement in pain and functional *** To assess both short-term and mid-term clinical outcomes and PROms of a novel CR TKA *** A retrospective,multi-surgeon study identified 255 knees undergoing a TKA utilizing a kinematically designed CR Knee System(JOURNEY™II CR;Smith and Nephew,Inc.,memphis,TN)at an urban,academic medical institution between march 2015 and July 2021 with a minimum of two-years of clinical follow-up with an orthopedic *** demographics,surgical information,clinical outcomes,and PROms data were collected via query of electronic medical *** PROms collected in the present study included the Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score for Joint Replacement(KOOS JR)and Patient-Reported Outcomes measurement Information System(PROmIS■)*** significance of improvements in mean PROm scores from preoperative scores to scores collected at six months and two-years postoperatively was analyzed using Independent Samples *** Of the 255 patients,65.5%were female,43.8%were White,and patients had an average age of 60.6 *** osteoarthritis(96.9%)was the most common primary *** mean surgical time was 105.3 minutes and mean length of stay was 2.1 d with most patients discharged home(92.5%).There were 18 emergency department(ED)visits within 90 d of surgery resulting in a 90 d ED visit rate of 7.1%,including a 2.4%orthopedic-related ED visit ra

Quality of life issues in men undergoing androgen deprivation therapy： a review

Androgen deprivation therapy （ADT） has been an essential treatment option for treating prostate cancer （PCa）. The role for hormonal treatment initially was restricted to men with metastatic and inoperable, locally advanced disease. Now it has been extended to neoadjuvant or adjuvant therapy for surgery and radiotherapy, for biochemical relapse after surgery or radiation, and even as primary therapy for non-metastatic disease. Fifty percent of PCa patients treated will receive ADT at some point. There is growing concern about the adverse effects and costs associated with more widespread ADT use. The adverse effects on quality of life （QoL）, including physical, social and psychological well-being when men are androgen-deprived, may be considerable. This review examines the QoL issues in the following areas： body feminisation, sexual changes, relationship changes, cognitive and affective symptoms, fatigue, sleep disturbance, depression and physical effects. Further suggestions for therapeutic approaches to reduce these alterations are suFuzested.

Fate and transport of theβ-adrenergic agonist ractopamine hydrochloride in soil–water systems

The feed additive ractopamine hydrochloride was fortified at four concentrations into batch vials containing soils that differed in both biological activity and organic matter（Om）.Sampling of the liquid layer for 14 days demonstrated that ractopamine rapidly dissipated from the liquid layer. Less than 20% of the fortified dose remained in the liquid layer after 4 hr,and recoveries of dosed ractopamine ranged from 8 to 18% in the liquid layer at 336 hr. Sorption to soil was the major fate for ractopamine in soil：water systems, i.e., 42%–51% of the dose at14 days. The major portion of the sorbed fraction was comprised of non-extractables; a smaller fraction of the sorbed dose was extracted into water and acetone, portions which would be potentially mobile in the environment. Partitioning coefficients for all soils suggested strong sorption of ractopamine to soil which is governed by hydrophobic interactions and cation exchange complexes within the soil Om. Ractopamine degradation was observed, but to mostly non-polar compounds which had a higher potential than ractopamine to sorb to soil. The formation of volatiles was also suggested. Therefore, despite rapid and extensive soil sorption,these studies indicated a portion of ractopamine, present in manures used to fertilize soils,may be mobile in the environment via water-borne events.

Evidence of proteins, chromosomes and chemical markers of DNA in exceptionally preserved dinosaur cartilage

A histological ground-section from a duck-billed dinosaur nestling(Hypacrosaurus stebingeri) revealed microstructures morphologically consistent with nuclei and chromosomes in cells within calcified *** hypothesized that this exceptional cellular preservation extended to the molecular level and had molecular features in common with extant avian cartilage. Histochemical and immunological evidence supports in situ preservation of extracellular matrix components found in extant cartilage, including glycosaminoglycans and collagen type II. Furthermore, isolated Hypacrosaurus chondrocytes react positively with two DNA intercalating stains. Specific DNA staining is only observed inside the isolated cells, suggesting endogenous nuclear material survived fossilization. Our data support the hypothesis that calcified cartilage is preserved at the molecular level in this mesozoic material, and suggest that remnants of once-living chondrocytes, including their DNA, may preserve for millions of years.

The role of emergency incident type in identifying first responders' health exposure risks

Kinematic analysis of penile reflexes in a rat model of spinal cord injury

The ex-copula penile dorsiflexion reflex(PDFR)is an established measure of sexual dysfunction in male rat models of spinal cord *** the PDFR after complete spinal transection is well described,information regarding the more clinically relevant incomplete spinal contusion injury model is *** study examined,using two-dimensional(2D)kinematic analysis,the relationship between the PDFR and degree of white matter sparing(WmS).male Wistar rats received a T9 contusion with varying degrees of impactor *** kinematic recordings of the PDFR were made 3-8 weeks *** reflex components examined included maximum angle of penile dorsiflexion,total penile event duration,and penile ascent *** hoc comparison between animals grouped based upon injury severity(moderate-severe:13.33%-17.15%WmS vs moderate:20.85%-33.50%WmS)ndicated PDFR ***,the numbers of animals with more moderate contusions having data points above the median n both maximum angle of penile dorsiflexion and penile ascent speed were significantly lower than animals with more severe *** penile event duration was also affected but only at more chronic time points(6-8 weeks).Thus,2D kinematic analysis of the PDFR allows for more consistent and quantifiable analysis of the subtle differences that can occur between injury severity groups in the rat contusion model.

Abuse of Lithium-ion batteries,both physical and electrochemical,can lead to significantly reduced operational *** some instances,abuse can cause catastrophic failure,including thermal runaway,combustion,and *** different test standards that include abuse conditions have been developed,but these generally consider only one condition at a time and only provide go/no-go *** this work,different types of cell abuse are implemented concurrently to determine the extent to which simultaneous abuse conditions aggravate cell degradation and *** loading is chosen to be the consistent type of physical abuse,and the first group of cells is cycled at different vibrational *** next group of cells is cycled at the same frequencies,with multiple charge pulses occurring during each *** final group of cells is cycled at the same frequencies,with a partial nail puncture occurring near the beginning of *** results show that abusing cells with vibrational loading or vibrational loading with current pulses does not cause a significant decrease in operational capabilities while abusing cells with vibrational loading and a nail puncture drastically reduces operational *** cells with vibration only experience an increase in internal resistance by a factor of 1.09–1.26,the cells with vibration and current pulses experience an increase in internal resistance by a factor of 1.16–1.23,and all cells from each group reach their rated lifetime of 500 cycles without reaching their end-of-life ***,the cells with vibration and nail puncture experience an increase in internal resistance by a factor of 6.83–22.1,and each cell reaches its end-of-life capacity within 50 ***,the results show that testing multiple abuse conditions simultaneously provides a better representation of the extreme limitations of cell operation and should be considered for inclusion in reference test standards.
