Seroprevalence of hepatitis E in adults in Brazil:a systematic review and metaanalysis

Background:Hepatitis E virus(HEV)is a member of the Hepeviridae family;it has four main genotypes and one *** genotypes 1 and 2 cause epidemic hepatitis and are transmitted via water and the fecal-oral route,genotypes 3 and 4 are zoonotic In the various seroprevalence studies of hepatitis E in Brazil,the numbers reported vary widely and are difficult to *** aim of this study was to analyze existing seroprevalence studies of hepatitis E in adults in *** text:We searched the Pubmed,Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences and Embase databases for studies published from inception to may 12,2018 concerning infection by HEV in Brazil without time period or language *** included studies that presented data concerning hepatitis E seroprevalence in adults in Brazil,had a sample size>50 patients and whose method used for the detection of anti-HEV was standardized and *** also evaluated the quality of the articles using a list of criteria that totalized 9 *** the 20 studies ultimately analyzed,10(50%)were from the southeast region of Brazil,3(15%)were from the central-west region,3(15%)were from the northern region,2(10%)were from the northeast region and 2(10%)were from the southern *** the quality evaluation of the studies,the mean score was 5.6(range:4-8).The estimated overall seroprevalence of HEV infection in the adult population was 6.0%(95%CI:5.0-7.0);in subgroup analyses,we observed that the prevalence of anti-HEV antibodies in blood donors was 7.0%(95%CI:5.0-8.0),whereas in the general population,it was 3.0%(95%CI:2.0-4.0).Conclusions:The results of this systematic review indicate that there should be national investment in the prevention of hepatitis E virus infection in Brazil,including the implementation of improvements in basic sanitation and guidance regarding the appropriate handling of animal waste and the optimal cooking of vegetables,meat and their derivatives.

Context: Bronchial fibroepithelial polyp is a very rare benign endobronchial tumor. Typically, it is a slow growing lesion, and the differential diagnosis includes other benign and malignant endobronchial tumors. Case Report: We report a case of a 75-year-old female who complained of intermittent productive cough. Computed tomography of the thorax showed a solid nodule with lobulated contours in the right main bronchus and subtotal atelectasis of the right lower lobe. Bronchoscopy with biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of a bronchial fibroepithelial polyp. Conclusion: This case is illustrative and demonstrates the importance of imaging methods and of histopathological correlation for the accurate diagnosis of this benign treatable lesion.

GB （goji berry） has bioactive components capable of reversing the metabolic syndrome. This work investigated systemic, biometric and metabolic parameters of male rats fed with standard diet （group CD） or high-carbohydrate diet （group HC）. At 90 days of age the HC group was subdivided： one was given vehicle solution （HCD） and the other was given GB extract （HCDGB）, for 60 days. The vehicle was also given to the CD group. At 150 days of age, glucose tolerance test, tissue collection, plasmatic determinations, lipid content, in situ perfusion and oxidative stress of the liver were carried out. The GB supplementation improved the parameters of the metabolic syndrome caused by the HC diet, including decreased body weight gain, adiposity index, dyslipidemia, hyperinsulinemia, NAFLD, liver oxidative stress and gluconeogenesis. Together with the diminished insulin resistance, these results indicate the GB extract is an important adjuvant in the treatment of the metabolic syndrome.

The Cumulative Effects of Sewage Sludge Compost on Raphanus sativus L: Growth and Soil Properties

The main goal of this research study was to establish the physicochemical characteristics of sewage sludge, and the nutrients needed to enhance the properties of soil with a view to exploiting were potential for agriculture. The example used was the cultivation of radish (Raphanus sativus). The findings are intended as a contribution towards making agriculture sustainable. This study was carried out to assess the response of radish (Raphanus sativus L.) to doses of sewage sludge applied in medium texture soils, and the socioeconomic contributions that such cultivation of radish would make. Levels of 0.25 and 75 ton/ha of sewage sludge plus the equivalent dose of 25 ton/ha of sewage sludge vermin compost by California Red were used after making a randomized experimental design with three replicates. 30 days after sowing radish seeds, the following data were collected: the number of leaves per plant (NLP);plant height (PH in cm);root diameter (RD) and tubercle production (TP ton/ha). In addition, the pH, EC-electric conductivity (EC), and soil organic matter (SOm) were determined. Statistical analysis showed that 25 and 50 tons/ha gave the best results for the parameters assessed. The estimated increase in family mean income from selling radish crops fertilized with sewage sludge is around 17%.

Elemental Composition of Pm<sub>2.5</sub>in Araraquara City (Southeast Brazil) during Seasons with and without Sugar Cane Burning

Particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter below 2.5 μm (Pm2.5), present in polluted air, has been associated with a large spectrum of health impairments, mainly because of its deep deposition into the lungs. Araraquara City (Southeast Brazil) is surrounded by sugar-cane plantations, which are burned to facilitate the harvesting;this process causes environmental pollution due to the large amounts of soot that are released into the atmosphere. In this work, the elemental composition of Pm2.5 was studied in two scenarios, namely in sugar-cane harvesting (HV) and in non-harvesting (NHV) seasons. The sampling strategy included one campaign in each season. Pm2.5 was collected using a dichotomous sampler (10 L·min-1, 24 h) with PTFE filters. Information concerning the bulk elemental concentration was provided by energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence. Enrichment factor analysis indicated that S, Cl, K, Cr, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Cd and Pb were highly enriched relative to their crustal ratios (to Al). Principal component analysis was used to get some insight about the sources of the elements. Principal component 1 (PC1) explained 30.5% of data variance. The elements that had high loading (>0.7) were: S, Cr, As, and Pb;these are associated with combustion of fossil fuels. In principal component 2 (PC2), Cl, Cu, Zn, and Cd showed high loadings;these elements are associated with biomass burning. The Ni concentration found is three times larger than the threshold of risk for lung cancer, as recommended by the World Health Organization.

Fast and unequivocal methods of questioned document analysis are essential in forensic science. Here, a desorption/ionization technique, EASI-mS, was assessed for its ability to investigate questioned driver’s licenses (DL). Two suspects DL, displaying the same personal data in the proper fields (name and ID numbers), but with different individual photos, showing similar impressions on microscopic analysis, and authentic standards documents specimens were used as test cases. Profiles from authentic DL surface were dominated by a set of few minor ions, mainly from the plasticizers bis(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate and dibutylphthalate. The seized suspect counterfeit DL on points from personal data and photo were, however, dominated by abundant diagnostic ions of m/z 463, 507, 551, 595, 639, 683, which confirmed counterfeiting. Surfynol® and Nonoxynol-9®, which are common constituents of inkjet printing, were detected in the counterfeiting areas by high-accuracy EASI(+)-FT-ICR mS. The EASI-mS technique is shown therefore to offer an attractive tool for forensic investigation of questioned documents.

In 2019,an oil spill in Brazil,of unknown origin,severely impacted coastal environs with the worst environmental disaster ever recorded in any tropical coastal region globally severely damaging South Pirangi Reef area in the state of Rio Grande do Norte(RN).Here we discuss acute and chronic impacts including chemical contamination and economic consequences all over the world and show some evidence of the oil spill in this biodiverse ***,the lapse between the moment of the disastei;and the action to manage it,was hampered by a political agenda coinciding with local and global tragedies that redirected public *** almost 2 years have passed still without the offending party identification or culpability;and poor communities may continue to absorb its deleterious impacts for decades without consideration or *** disaster occurred during the Brazilian government's current issues involving extensive environmental mismanagement,resulting in a slow response from an inept *** is with urgent necessity to spotlight this tragedy in this unique and sensitive reef habitat experiencing the ongoing damaging effects that include socio-economic losses not yet addressed.

Winter Oilseed Crops after Soybeans as Tools for Weed management in Brazilian Savannah Cropping Systems

We aimed with this study to evaluate the potential of oilseed crops planted following soybean, in terms of their ability to inhibit the occurrence of weed species under Brazilian Savannah cropping systems. The long-term experiment was installed in 2010 at Dourados, mS, Brazil, and in completely randomized blocks design with five replications with 12 × 24 m plot size. For three consecutive years (2010/11, 2011/12 and 2012/13), soybeans were planted in all the area by October/November being harvested in February/march, when previously marked plots were planted in April with: (1) radish (Raphanus sativus);(2) rapeseed (Brassica napus);(3) crambe (Crambe abyssinica);(4) winter fallow-no plantation after soybeans. In all years the same crop was repeated at the same plots, with no crop rotation. Phytosociological characterization of weed species was carried out in winter (after oilseeds harvest), pre-planting and post-emergence of soybean for the three years. Relative abundance, frequency and dominance, as well as the importance value for each species, was obtained. Areas were also intra-characterized by the coefficients of Simpson, Shannon-Weiner and Shannon-Weiner’s Evenness Proportion, and areas were compared for species dissimilarity with Jaccard’s presence-only coefficient, by multivariate cluster analysis. Oilseed crops definitely contribute for sustainable weed management as a cultural tool. The most important oilseed crop weeds in the Savannah-like region of Brazil were Amaranthus hybridus, Richardia brasiliensis, Lepidium virginicum, Leonotis nepetifolia and Hybanthus parviflorus. After three years of repetitive crop succession, some weeds were selected, and rotation in Winter is advised at least every two or three years.

Thermomechanical Behavior modeling of a Cr-Ni-mo-mn-N Austenitic Stainless Steel

The analytical approach and the thermomechanical behavior of a Cr-Ni-mo-mn-N austenitic stainless steel were characterized based on the parameters of work hardening (h), dynamic recovery (r) and dynamic recrystallization (n, t0.5), considering constitutive equations (σ, ε) and deformation conditions expressed according to the Zener-Hollomon parameter (Z). The results indicated that the curves were affected by the deformation conditions and that the stress levels increased with Z under high work hardening rates. The σc/σp ratio was relatively high in the first part of the curves, indicating that softening was promoted by intense dynamic recovery (DRV). This was corroborated by the high values of r and average stacking fault energy, γsfe = 66.86 mJ/m2, which facilitated the thermally activated mechanisms, increasing the effectiveness of DRV and delaying the onset of dynamic recrystallization (DRX). The second part of the curves indicates that there was a delay in the kinetics of dynamic softening, with a higher value of t0.5 and lower values of the Avrami exponent (n) due to the competing DRV-DRX mechanisms, and steady state stress (σss) was achieved under higher rates of deformation.

Bee venom acupuncture reduces neuroinflammation modulating microglia/macrophage phenotype polarization in spinal cord injury compression model

Aim: The present study aimed to examine whether apipuncture (stimulation of acupuncture points with bee venom)at ST36 and GV3 acupoints promotes neuroprotection and reduces neuroinflammation by modulating m1 and m2 phenotype ***: Wistar rats were treated with bee venom (BV) (0.08 mg/kg) injection at acupoints ST36 and GV3 [BV (ST36 + GV3)-spinal cord injury (SCI)] or BV injection at non-acupoints [BV (NP)-SCI] or no treatment (CTL-SCI)after SCI by compression. The spinal cord mRNA expression of iNOS, Arg-1 and TGF-β was measured by real time PCR and the levels of IBA-1;BCL-2;NeuN e CNPase was measured by western blotting. Locomotor performance was measured by Basso, Beattie, and Bresnahan (BBB) and grid-walking ***: Apipuncture treatment was able to (1) ameliorate locomotor performance;(2) reduce inflammatory markers (Cox-2 levels) and activation of microglia and macrophages;(3) reduce the polarization of the m1 phenotype marker (iNOS) and increase m2 (Arg-1 and TGF-β) phenotypic markers;(4) promote neuroprotection by reducing the death of neurons and oligodendrocytes;and (5) increase the expression of the anti-apoptotic factor ***: Apipuncture treatment induces locomotor recovery and neuroprotection after the compression model of spinal cord injury. Further, it reduces neuroinflammation by decreasing m1 polarization and increasing m2 phenotype.
