Comparison of laser epithelial keratomileusis and photorefractive keratectomy for the correction of myopia： a meta-analysis

Background It is unclear whether a laser epithelial keratomileusis （LASEK） has any significant advantage over a photorefractive keratectomy （PRK） for correcting myopia. We undertook this meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials to examine possible differences in efficacy, accuracy, safety and side-effects between two methods, LASEK and PRK, for correcting myopia. Methods A systematic literature retrieval was conducted in the PubMed, EMBASE, Chinese Bio-medicine Database, and Cochrane Controlled Trials Register to identify potentially relevant randomized controlled trials. The statistical analysis was performed using a RevMan 4.2 software. The results included efficacy outcomes （proportion of eyes with uncorrected visual acuity （UCVA）〉 20/20 at 1 month and 12 months post-treatment）, accuracy outcomes （proportion of eyes within ±0.50 diopters （D） of target refraction at 1 month and 12 months post-treatment）, safety outcomes （loss of 〉2 lines of best spectacle-corrected visual acuity （BSCVA） at 〉 6 months post-treatment）, mean pain scores on day 1 post-treatment, and mean corneal haze scores at 6 and 12 months post-treatment. Results Seven articles describing a total of 604 eyes with myopia from 0 to -9.0 D were identified in this meta-analysis. The combined results showed that the efficacy and accuracy outcomes between the two groups at 1 month and 12 months post-treatment were comparable. No patient lost 〉 2 lines of BSCVA at 〉 6 months post-treatment in four relevant trials. Compared with PRK, LASEK did not relieve discomfort on day 1 post-treatment or reduce corneal haze intensity at 6 and 12 months post-treatment. Conclusions According to the available data, LASEK does not appear to have any advantage over PRK for correcting myopia from 0 to -9.0 D. This meta-analysis focuses mainly on the comparison of the early, mid-term and mid-long term results of the two methods. Additional studies to compare the long-term （〉one year） results should be considered.

A novel pillared-layer-type porous coordination polymer featuring three-dimensional pore system and high methane storage capacity

Solvothermal reaction of Zn（NO3）2, 4-（1H-pyrazol-4-yl）pyridine （Hpypz） and 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid （H3btc） in N,N-dimethylacetamide （DMA） produced a new porous coordination polymer [Zns（pypz）4（btc）2] （1）. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction study of 1 showed that deprotonated pypz^- ligands served as 1,2,4-triazolate-like ligands, linking Zn（II） ^＋ ions to form porous two-dimensional （2-D） sql-a layers {Zn（pypz）} , which were further connected by eight-legged pillars {Zn2（btc）4（H2O）2}8- based on the typical paddlewheel dinuclear Zn2（RCOO）4（H20）2 cluster to form a novel type of non-interpenetrated pillared-layer framework with 3-D intersecting pore system and large pore volume. Gas sorption measurements revealed that 1 possesses large BET surface area of 2061 m^2g^-1 and very high methane total uptake of 245 cm^3（STP） cm^-3 at 298 K and 65 bar.

CT： Artificial tissue engineering scaffods can potentially provide supportand guidance for the regrowth of severed axons following nerve injury. In this study a hybrid biomaterial composed of alginate and hyaluronic acid （HA） was synthesized characterized in terms of its suitability for covalent modification, biocompatibility fir living Schwann cells and feasibility to construct three dimensional （3D） Carbodiimide mediated amide formation for the purpose of covalent crosslinking of the HA was carried out in the presence of calcium ions that ionically crosslink *** formation was found to be dependent on the concentrations of cabodiimide and calclum chloride. The double-crosslinked composite hydrogels display blocompatibllity that is comparable to simple HA hydrogels, allowing for Schwann cell survival and significant difference was found between composite hydrogels made from different of alginate and HA. A 3D BioPIotterTM rapid prototyping system was used to fabricats 3D scaffolds. The result indicated that combining HA with alginate facilitated the fabrication process and that 3D scaffolds with porous inner structure can be fabricated ;from the composite hydrogels, but not from HA alone. This information provides a basis for continuing in vitro and in vivo tests of the suitability of alginate/HA hydrogel as a biomaterial to create living cell scaffolds to support nerve regeneration.

Phenols have been shown to influence the cellular proliferation and function of thyroid in experimental models. However, few human studies have investigated the association between phenol exposure and thyroid cancer, and the underlying mechanisms are also poorly understood. We conducted a case-control study by age- and sex-matching 143 thyroid cancer and 224 controls to investigate the associations between phenol exposures and the risk of thyroid cancer, and further to explore the mediating role of oxidative stress. We found that elevated urinary triclosan (TCS), bisphenol A (BPA) and bisphenol S (BPS) levels were associated with increased risk of thyroid cancer (all P for trends < 0.05), and the adjusted odds ratios (ORs) comparing the extreme exposure groups were 3.52 (95% confidence interval (CI):2.08, 5.95), 2.06 (95% CI: 1.06, 3.97) and 7.15 (95% CI: 3.12, 16.40), respectively. Positive associations were also observed between urinary TCS, BPA and BPS and three oxidative stress biomarkers measured by 8-hydroxy-2 -deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG), 8-iso-prostaglandin F(8-iso PGF) and 4-hydroxy-2-nonenal-mercapturic acid (HNE-MA), as well as between urinary 8-iso PGFand HNE-MA and the risk of thyroid cancer. Mediation analysis showed that urinary 8-iso PGFmediated 28.95%, 47.06% and 31.08% of the associations between TCS, BPA and BPS exposures and the risk of thyroid cancer, respectively (all P < 0.05). Our results suggest that exposure to TCS, BPA and BPS may be associated with increased risk of thyroid cancer and lipid peroxidation may be an intermediate mechanism. Further studies are warranted to confirm the findings.

The impedance matching of absorbers is a vital factor affecting their microwave absorption(MA)*** this work,we controllably synthesized Material of Institute Lavoisier 88C(MIL-88C)with varying aspect ratios(AR)as a precursor by regulating oil bath conditions,followed by one-step thermal decomposition to obtain carbon-coated iron-based *** the precursor MIL-88C(Fe)preparation conditions,such as the molar ratio between metal ions and organic ligands(M/O),oil bath temperature,and oil bath time,influenced the phases,graphitization degree,and AR of the derivatives,enabling low filler loading,achieving well-matched impedance,and ensuring outstanding MA *** MOF-derivatives 2(MD_(2))/polyvinylidene Difluoride(PVDF),MD_(3)/PVDF,and MD4/PVDF absorbers all exhibited excellent MA properties with optimal filler loadings below 20 wt%and as low as 5 wt%.The MD_(2)/PVDF(5 wt%)achieved a maximum effective absorption bandwidth(EAB)of 5.52 GHz(1.90 mm).The MD_(3)/PVDF(10 wt%)possessed a minimum reflection loss(RL_(min))value of−67.4 at 12.56 GHz(2.13 mm).A symmetric gradient honeycomb structure(SGHS)was constructed utilizing the high-frequency structure simulator(HFSS)to further extend the EAB,achieving an EAB of 14.6 GHz and a RL_(min) of−59.0 *** research offers a viable inspiration to creating structures or materials with high-efficiency MA properties.

Discovery of two rotational modulation periods from a young hierarchical triple system

GW Ori is a young hierarchical triple system located in λ Orionis, consisting of a binary(GW Ori A and B), a tertiary star(GW Ori C) and a rare circumtriple disk. Due to the limited data with poor accuracy, several short-period signals were detected in this system, but the values from diferent studies are not fully consistent. As one of the most successful transiting surveys, the transiting exoplanet survey satellite(TESS) provides an unprecedented opportunity to make a comprehensive periodic analysis of GW Ori. In this work we discover two significant modulation signals by analyzing the light curves of GW Ori's four observations from TESS, i.e.,(3.02 ± 0.15) and(1.92 ± 0.06) d, which are very likely to be the rotational periods caused by starspot modulation on the primary and secondary components, respectively. We calculate the inclinations of GW Ori A and B according to the two rotational periods. The results suggest that the rotational plane of GW Ori A and B and the orbital plane of the binary are almost coplanar. We also discuss the aperiodic features in the light curves;these may be related to unstable accretion. The light curves of GW Ori also include a third(possible) modulation signal with a period of(2.51±0.09) d, but the third is neither quite stable nor statistically significant.

Modified polyimides(MPIs)show great potential towards 5G communication applications,due to its excellent thermal stability,mechanical property and chemical stability as compared to most of *** fluoride groups or porous structure is favorable to ultra-low dielectric constant(D_(k))and dielectric loss(D_(f)).However,the cost of the fluorinated MPIs is high and their synthetic processes are complicated,and porous MPIs suffer poor mechanical ***,increasing the fraction of free volume is a very effective way to lower D_(k)through introducing more ultra-low-D_(k)air ***,most of this kind of MPIs lag far behind the fluorinated MPIs and the porous MPIs in terms of ultra-low D_(f),hindering the application of MPIs in high-speed communication ***,it is highly desirable to develop intrinsic ultra-low-D_(k)/D_(f)MPIs at high frequency with less fluoric groups and nonporous ***,we introduce a facile and effective strategy to lower D_(k)and D_(f)through introducing rigid and large sterically hindered aromatic groups into *** the one hand,their large steric hindrance effect leads to low D_(k)by increasing intrinsic free *** the other hand,the resulting highly stiff polymer chain and strong intermolecular interaction are favorable to reduce D_(f)by inhibiting dipole *** on this strategy,the spirobifluorene groups are *** as-prepared MPIs show excellent dielectric performance with low D_(k)of 2.74–2.76 and low D_(f)of 0.00599 at 10 GHz,to some extent,exceeding the multiple fluorinated MPI with D_(k)/D_(f)of 2.67/0.00663 at 10 GHz.

Sex determination in plants gives rise to unisexual flowers. A better understanding of the regulatory mechanism underlying the production of unisexual flowers will help to clarify the process of sex determination in plants and allow researchers and farmers to harness heterosis. Androecious cucumber(Cucumis sativus L.) plants can be used as the male parent when planted alongside a gynoecious line to produce heterozygous seeds, thus reducing the cost of seed production. The isolation and characterization of additional androecious genotypes in varied backgrounds will increase the pool of available germplasm for breeding. Here, we discovered an androecious mutant in a previously generated ethyl methanesulfonate(EMS)-mutagenized library of the cucumber inbred line ‘406’. Genetic analysis, whole-genome resequencing, and molecular marker-assisted verification demonstrated that a nonsynonymous mutation in the ethylene biosynthetic gene 1-AminOCYCLOPROPANE-1-CARBOXYLATE SYNTHASE 11(ACS11) conferred androecy. The mutation caused an amino acid change from serine(Ser) to phenylalanine(Phe) at position 301(S301F). In vitro enzyme activity assays revealed that this S301F mutation leads to a complete loss of enzymatic activity. This study provides a new germplasm for use in cucumber breeding as the androecious male parent, and it offers new insights into the catalytic mechanism of ACS enzymes.
