We develop a thin-film microstructural model that represents structural markers(i.e.,triple junctions in the two-dimensional projections of the structure of films with columnar grains)in terms of a stochastic,marked point process and the microstructure itself in terms of a grain-boundary *** advantage of this representation is that it is conveniently applicable to the characterization of microstructures obtained from crystal orientation mapping,leading to a picture of an ensemble of interacting triple junctions,while providing results that inform grain-growth models with experimental *** specifically,calculated quantities such as pair,partial pair and mark correlation functions,along with the microstructural mutual information(entropy),highlight effective triple junction interactions that dictate microstructural *** validate this approach,we characterize microstructures from Al thin films via crystal orientation mapping and formulate an approach,akin to classical density functional theory,to describe grain growth that embodies triple-junction interactions.

A novel method for the simultaneous determination of 3-nitrotyrosine(NT) and 3-chlorotyrosine(cT) in human plasma has been developed based on direct analysis in real time–tandem mass spectrometry(DART–MS/MS). Analysis was performed in the positive ionization mode using multiple reaction monitoring(MRM) of the ion transitions at m/z 216.2/170.1 for cT, m/z 227.2/181.1 for NT and m/z 230.2/184.2 for the internal standard, d^3-NT. The assay was linear in the ranges 0.5–100 μg/m L for cT and 4–100 μg/m L for NT with corresponding limits of detection of 0.2 and 2 μg/m L. Intra- and inter-day precisions and accuracies were respectively cts were also evaluated. The method is potentially useful for high throughput analysis although sensitivity needs to be improved before it can be applied in clinical research.

An ionizing radiation hazard produced from the interaction between high intensity lasers and solid targets has been observed. Laser-plasma interactions create “hot” electrons, which generate bremsstrahlung X-rays when they interact with ions in the target. However, up to now only limited studies have been conducted on this laser-induced radiological protection issue. In this paper, the physical process and characteristics of the interaction between high intensity lasers and solid targets are analyzed. The parameters of the radiation sources are discussed,including the energy conversion efficiency from laser to hot electrons, hot electron energy spectrum and electron temperature, and the bremsstrahlung X-ray energy spectrum produced by hot electrons. Based on this information,the X-ray dose generated with high-Z targets for laser intensities between 10^14 and 10^20W/cm^2 is estimated. The shielding effects of common shielding items such as the glass view port, aluminum chamber wall and concrete wall are also studied using the FLUKA Monte carlo code. This study provides a reference for the dose estimation and the shielding design of high intensity laser facilities.

A method for rapid identification and quantification of phthalate plasticizers in beverages was developed.A number of 15 phthalate plasticizers which covered all the phthalates concerned in the US consumer Product Safety Improvement Act(cPSIA),European Union legislations and chinese national standards(GB)were *** a combined solid-phase micro-extraction(SPME)and direct analysis in real time mass spectrometry(DART-MS)approach,phthalates at sub-ng•mL^(−1)levels can be qualitatively and quantitatively analyzed in a short *** use of ultrahigh-resolving power and the accurate mass measurement capacity naturally provided by Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry(FT-IcR-MS)minimizes the matrix interferences and thus enables the evaluation of phthalates in a complex matrix without extensive sample handlings or *** limits of quantification(LOQs)were estimated to be at 0.3-5.0 ng•mL^(−1),lower than the Maximum Residue Limit(MRL)regulated by the European Union legislations(2007/19/Ec)in foods,beverages,food packaging and toys(0.3-30 ng•mL^(−1)).This rapid and easy-to-use SPME-DART-FT-IcR-MS method provided a relatively high-throughput and powerful analytical approach for quick testing and screening phthalates in beverages and water samples to ensure food safety.

The low-cycle fatigue （LcF） properties of DD10 （single-crystal） and DZ53 （columnar-grained） superalloys solidified by liquid-metal cooling （LMc） and high-rate solidification （HRS） processes have been systematically investi- gated. It was found that the LcF life of DZ53 solidified by LMc was obviously better than that solidified by HRS. In contrast, for DD10, LMc showed no remarkable influences on LcF properties at high temperature and only improved LcF properties at intermediate temperature. Microstructure examination showed that the cracks generally initiated at microp- ores in the subsurface at intermediate temperature. However, the cracks occurred on the surface due to oxidation, or persistent slip bands near script-Mc at high temperature. Therefore, the benefits of LMc technique can be attributed to both of the reduced casting defects which significantly affect the LcF properties at intermediate temperature and the improved microstructural homogeneity which was strongly correlated to the LcF properties of alloys at high temperature.

Transient repassivation of freshly generated aluminiutn surface is monitored by using time-resolved frequency response spectroscopy. Information relating to the anodic film formation as well as the cathodic evolution of hydrogen on the metal surace is obtained as function of repassivation time and applied constant current. Pronounced effects of anodic and cathodic applied curmnts on the time-resolved impedance spectroscopy support a previous model which suggests that the low frequtncy Rc time constants are due to the anodic film growth and the high Asquency one to the cathodic charpetrensfer or clectron transfer process occuwtng simultaneously on the electrode surace.
