The effects of ammonium (NH4+-N) and nitrate (NO3- - N) were examined on Fe fractions and FecN (ferricyanide) reductase activity in intact root tips (0-3 cm) of young maize (Zea mays L. cv. Lenz) in solution culture by using short-term experiment under controlled Fe deficiency conditions (containing high HcO3- concentration in pre-culture solution). The results showed that Fe(Ⅱ) concentrations in root tip apoplast of maize were only 20-40 nmol/g FW which accounted for 7%-13% of total Fe. Most of Fe in root tips existed as Fe(Ⅲ) compounds. Imposition of the roots to NH4+ - N or NO3- - N for 60 min led to an increase of Fe(Ⅱ) in root tip apoplast. NH4+ - N led to an increased concentration of Fe(Ⅱ) and exchangeable Fe (Fe(Ⅱ) and Fe (Ⅲ)) in root tips, while NO3- - N increased FecN reductase activity. The relationship between pH and Fe fractions, FecN reductase activity was also discussed.

It has been almost 20 years since the first reports of minimally invasive lobectomies appeared. Despite the tremendous amounts of research performed on VATS lobectomy showing its benefit over open thoracotomy, a mere 32% of all lobectomies are performed via this technique in the Society for Thoracic Surgeons database and only 6% in the Nationwide Inpatient Sample （1）. So, why is it that in a recent review of clinical stage I lung cancers over 70% were still completed using open thoracotomy？（2）. Advocates of an open approach still cite the ability to sample and perform a ＂more thorough＂ lymphadenectomy, the instability of the VATS platform and the lack of precision with the fissure-less-dissection VATS technique as reasons to maintain the status quo.

A modelling suite for hydrogen transport during electrochemical permeation, degassing and thermal desorption spectroscopy is presented. The approach is based on Fick＇s diffusion laws, where the initial concentration and diffusion coefficients depend on microstructure and charging conditions. The evolution equations are shown to reduce to classical models for hydrogen diffusion and thermal desorption spectroscopy. The number density of trapping sites is found to be proportional to the mean spacing of each microstructural feature, including dislocations, grain boundaries and various precipitates. The model is validated with several steel grades and polycrystalline nickel for a wide range of processing conditions and microstructures. A systematic study of the factors affecting hydrogen mobility in martensitic steels showed that dislocations control the effective diffusion coefficient of hydrogen. However,they also release hydrogen into the lattice more rapidly than other kind of traps. It is suggested that these effects contribute to the increased susceptibility to hydrogen embrittlement in martensitic and other high-strength steels. These results show that the methodology can be employed as a tool for alloy and process design, and that dislocation kinematics play a crucial role in such design.

Two-color multiphoton microscopy through wavelength mixing of synchronized lasers has been shown to increase the spectral window of excitable fluorophores without the need for wavelength ***,most currently available dual output laser sources rely on the costly and complicated optical parametric generation *** this report,we detail a relatively simple and low cost diamond Raman laser pumped by a ytterbium fiber amplifier emitting at 1055 nm,which generates a first Stokes emission centered at 1240 nm with a pulse width of 100 *** two excitation wavelengths of 1055 and 1240 nm,along with the effective two-color excitation wavelength of 1140 nm,provide an almost complete coverage of fluorophores excitable within the range of 1000–1300 *** compared with 1055 nm excitation,two-color excitation at 1140 nm offers a 90%increase in signal for many far-red emitting fluorescent proteins(for example,tdKatushka2).We demonstrate multicolor imaging of tdKatushka2 and Hoechst 33342 via simultaneous two-color two-photon,and two-color three-photon microscopy in engineered 3D multicellular *** further discuss potential benefits and applications for two-color three-photon *** addition,we show that this laser system is capable of in vivo imaging in mouse cortex to nearly 1 mm in depth with two-color excitation.

The expected mean squares for unbalanced mixed effect interactive model were derived using Brute Force Method. From the expected mean squares, there are no obvious denominators for testing for the main effects when the factors are mixed. An expression for F-test for testing for the main effects was derived which was proved to be unbiased.

BAcKGROUND Langerhans cell histiocytosis(LcH)is a rare clonal proliferative disease of Langerhans cells with unknown *** increasing number of clinicians recognize that LcH has a wide clinical spectrum and a highly varied *** rarely develop ***,we report a case of adult localized *** SUMMARY A 32-year-old woman presented with plaques and ulcers on the vulva and crissum,accompanied by pain that persisted for more than one *** examination revealed a red-infiltrating plaque with ulcerations and exudates in the vulva and *** examination revealed a diffuse infiltration of lymphocytes,eosinophilic granulocytes,and histiocytoid cells in the superficial *** histiocytoid cells showed mild atypia,partly with kidneyshaped *** examination showed that the histiocytoid cells were positive for S100 protein and cD1 and weakly positive for cD68(20%+),with a Ki-67 index of 30%.Laboratory tests did not reveal any other systemic *** patient was diagnosed with adult localized LcH and was prescribed oral prednisone(20 mg)once *** skin lesions gradually improved and are still being *** Adult localized LcH is rare and must be differentiated from other common conditions.

Double-diffusive stationary and oscillatory instabilities at the marginal state in a saturated porous horizontal fluid layer heated and salted from above are investigated theoretically under the Darcy＇s framework for a porous medium. The contributions of Soret and Dufour coefficients are taken into account in the analysis. Linear stability analysis shows that the critical value of the Darcy-Rayleigh number depends on cross-diffusive parameters at marginally stationary convec- tion, while the marginal state characterized by oscillatory convection does not depend on the cross-diffusion terms even if the condition and frequency of oscillatory convection depends on the cross-diffusive parameters. The critical value of the Darcy-Rayleigh number increases with increasing value of the solutal Darcy-Rayleigh number in the absence of cross- diffusive parameters. The critical Darcy-Rayleigh number decreases with increasing Soret number, resulting in destabiliza- tion of the system, while its value increases with increasing Dufour number, resulting in stabilization of the system at the marginal state characterized by stationary convection. The analysis reveals that the Dufour and Soret parameters as well as the porosity parameter play an important role in deciding the type of instability at the onset. This analysis also indicates that the stationary convection is followed by the oscillatory convection for certain fluid mixtures. It is interesting to note that the roles of cross-diffusive parameters on the double-diffusive system heated and salted from above are reciprocal to the double-diffusive system heated and salted from below.

Aminooxyacetate (AOA) is a pyridoxal phosphate antagonist that inhibits various plant enzymes (including transaminases) which require pyridoxal phosphate as a cofactor and it exhibits phytotoxic and herbicidal properties. We examined AOA and its analog, N-t-butoxycarbonyl-AOA (Boc-AOA) for phytotoxicity, interactions with weed pathogens (bioherbicides), and effects on an important pyridoxal requiring enzyme, cysteine synthase (CS, E.C. 4.***.99.8). Studies were performed on two weeds, i.e., hemp sesbania [Sesbania exaltata (Raf.) Rybd. Ex A.W. Hill] and sicklepod (Senna obtusifolia), and two pathogens, (Colletotrichum truncatum and Alternaria cassiae), that are bioherbicidal agents against hemp sesbania and sicklepod, respectively. Pathogenicity tests, and assays for extractable, and in vitro CS activities were utilized. Phytotoxicity bioassays indicated that the bulky te="font-family:Verdana;">-butoxycarbonyl moiety substitution on the AOA molecule did not substantially hinder expression of biological activity of Boc-AOA in these tests. Generally, spray application of the compounds to young dark-grown seedlings caused little growth effects, but root-feeding of the chemicals reduced growth
