Energy and environmental issues presently attract a great deal of scientific attention. Recently, two-dimensional MXenes and MXene-based nanomaterials have attracted increasing interest because of their unique properties (e.g., remarkable safety, a very large interlayer spacing, environmental flexibility, a large surface area, and thermal conductivity). In 2011, multilayered MXenes (Ti3C2Tx, a new family of two-dimensional (2D) materials) produced by etching an A layer from a MAX phase of Ti3AlC2, were first described by researchers at Drexel University. The term “MXene” was coined to distinguish this new family of 2D materials from graphene, and applies to both the original MAX phases and MXenes fabricated from them. We present a comprehensive review of recent studies on energy and environmental applications of MXene and MXene-based nanomaterials, including energy conversion and storage, adsorption, membrane, photocatalysis, and antimicrobial. Future research needs are discussed briefly with current challenges that must be overcome before we completely understand the extraordinary properties of MXene and MXene-based nanomaterials.

In?uence of Carbon Equivalent Value on the Weld Bead Bending Properties of High-Strength Low-Alloy Steel Plates

The contribution of chemical compositions in terms of carbon equivalent value（CEV） on impending crack propagation during weld bead bend tests（WBBTs） was studied with five different high-strength lowalloy steel plates that underwent different rolling processes. The test showed that cracks developed at the weld joint, easily passed through the coarse-grain heat-affected zone（CGHAZ）, and finally were arrested within the heat-affected zone（HAZ）. An apparent decrease in the average crack length, which consequently indicated improvement in crack arrestability, was found with decreasing CEV. In addition,the relatively fine microstructure in the HAZ of low-CEV steel plates helped in preventing the crack from further propagation. Special emphasis was placed on the empirical expectation of critical CEV above which WBBT might fail.

Development and application of a multi-step porcine in vitro system to evaluate feedstuffs and feed additives for their efficacy in nutrient digestion, digesta characteristics, and intestinal immune responses

In vitro model provides alternatives to the use of live animals in research. In pig nutrition, there has been a tremendous increase in in vivo research over the decades. Proper utilization of in vitro models could provide a screening tool to reduce the needs of in vivo studies, research duration, cost, and the use of animals and feeds. This study aimed to develop a multi-step porcine in vitro system to simulate nutrient digestion and intestinal epithelial immune responses affected by feedstuffs and feed additives. Seven feedstuffs(corn, corn distillers dried grains with solubles [corn DDGS], barley, wheat, soybean meal, soy protein concentrates, and Corynebacterium glutamicum cell mass [CGCM]), feed enzymes(xylanase and phytase), and supplemental amino acids(arginine, methionine, and tryptophan), were used in this in vitro evaluation for their efficacy on digestibility, digesta characteristics, and intestinal health compared with the results from previously published in vivo studies. All in vitro evaluations were triplicated. Data were analyzed using Mixed procedure of SAS9.4. Evaluations included(1) nutrient digestibility of feedstuffs,(2) the effects of feed enzymes, xylanase and phytase, on digestibility of feedstuffs and specific substrates, and(3) the effects of amino acids, arginine, tryptophan, and methionine, on anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative, and anti-heat stress statuses showing their effects(P < 0.05) on the measured items. Differences in dry matter and crude protein digestibility among the feedstuffs as well as effects of xylanase and phytase were detected(P < 0.05), including xylo-oligosaccharide profiles and phosphorus release from phytate. Supplementation of arginine, tryptophan, and methionine modulated(P < 0.05) cellular inflammatory and oxidative stress responses. Preparation of glucosamine by hydrolysis of chitosan with commercial α-amylase and glucoamylase

Objective： In order to overcome the defects of chemical hydrolysis approach to prepare glucosamine, an enzymatic hydrolysis method was developed. Methods： Glucosamine was prepared by hydrolyzing chitosan, em- ploying e-amylase initially, and subsequently, glucoamylase. Results： The optimal hydrolyzing conditions were as follows： reaction time, 4 h; pH, 5.0; temperature, 50 ℃; and, α-amylase, 80 U/g for the initial reaction. Subsequently, glucoamylase was added in the presence of a-amylase. The optimal reaction conditions were found to be： reaction time, 8 h; pH, 4.5; temperature, 55 ℃; and, glucoamylase, 4000 U/g. The hydrolysates were subject to filtrating, concentrating to about 20% （w/w）, precipitating with five volumes of ethanol, and drying at 60 ℃ for 2 h. The content and the yield of glucosamine in the dried precipitate were 91.3% （w/w） and 86.2% （w/w）, respectively. Conclusions： The method developed in this study is a promising option in the preparation of glucosamine.

Since the introduction of sorafenib in 2007(1),a tyrosine kinase inhibitor(TKI),there have been notable advancements in systemic therapy for advanced-stage hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).Although the European Association for the Study of the Liver(EASL)Clinical Practice Guidelines regarding the management of HCC was published in 2018(2),recent progress,including the advent of several immune checkpoint inhibitors(ICIs),necessitated the revision of this ***,the EASL published a position paper to address the additional improvements on systemic therapy for HCC(3).Here,we aimed to summarize this position paper and comment on some updated points.

Aqueous levels of erythropoietin in acute retinal vein occlusion with macular edema

AIM:To investigate the aqueous erythropoietin(EPO)levels and associated factors in patients with acute retinal vein occlusion(RVO).METHODS:The aqueous EPO level was measured in patients with macular edema(ME)secondary to acute branched retinal vein occlusion(BRVO)or central retinal vein occlusion(CRVO).Aqueous fluid from cataract patients served as the *** also evaluated whether aqueous level of EPO was associated with factors such as serum EPO level,non-perfusion area,central macular thickness(CMT),and arterio-venous(AV)transit timeRESULTS:Twenty-seven RVO patients(16 BRVO,11CRVO)and 9 control subjects were enrolled in the *** aqueous EPO level(mU/mL)was higher in RVO(68.2±54.3)than that in the control subjects(12.9±5.9).More specifically,the aqueous EPO level was higher in CRVO(118.9±52.1)than that in BRVO(33.3±10.8).However,no differences were found in serum EPO levels among three *** in RVO patients had a positive correlation with the aqueous EPO level(r=0.66).Also,in terms of non-perfusion area,the aqueous EPO levels were more elevated in the ischemic subgroup than in the non-ischemic subgroup in both BRVO and ***:Aqueous EPO levels are elevated in patients with macular edema secondary to recent onset *** with CRVO have higher EPO levels than those with *** aqueous EPO level in RVO has a positive correlation with CMT and is associated with non-perfusion *** results suggest that the aqueous EPO level could be associated with retinal ischemia and may be involved in the pathogenesis of macular edema secondary to RVO.

Quantitative analysis of mechanical properties associated with aging treatment and microstructure in Mg-Al-Zn alloys through machine learning

The present study proposes a methodology for predicting the mechanical properties of AZ61 and AZ91alloys associated with microstructure,texture and aging parameters and estimating predictor *** this,we investigate quantitative correlations between microstructure,texture and mechanical properties of aged AZ61 and AZ91 rods through machine *** regression analysis focuses on the precipitation behavior of Mg17Al12as the main second phase of Mg-Al-Zn alloys with respect to aging *** simplify data generation,only SEM images were used to quantify the features of discontinuous and continuous *** overcome the lack of data and make the most of the measured data,we devised a method to extend the existing dataset by a factor of 9 using the mean and standard deviation of the measured *** neural networks predicted tensile and compressive yield strengths and resultant yield asymmetry with a high accuracy of over 98%using 11 predictors for a total of *** tree learning quantitatively assessed the importance of predictors in determining the mechanical properties of aged AZ61 and AZ91 rods.

Environmentally friendly hybrid coating prepared by electro-deposition method at various seawater conditions

The formation mechanism of calcareous deposit films in seawater involves an increase in pH at the metal/solution interface due to cathodic reactions, a raised carbonate ion concentration at the interface and precipitation of inorganic deposits such as CaCO3, Mg(OH)2. Environmentally friendly hybrid calcareous deposit films were formed by an electrochemical technique on steel substrates in various solution environments. And the influence of dissolved gas on formation of calcareous deposit films was investigated by scanning electron microscopy(SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS) and X-ray diffractometry(XRD). Consequently, these results showed that formation of good overall calcareous deposited films by dissolved gas in seawater environments can be achieved by controlling the material composition and structure through effective use of electrochemical method.
