Based on performance-based seismic engineering, this paper proposes an optimal seismic retrofit model for steel moment resisting frames（SMRFs） to generate a retrofit scheme at minimal cost. To satisfy the acceptance criteria for the Basic Safety Objective（BSO） specified in FEMA 356, the minimum number of upgraded connections and their locations in an SMRF with brittle connections are determined by evolutionary computation. The performance of the proposed optimal retrofitting model is evaluated on the basis of the energy dissipation capacities, peak roof drift ratios, and maximum interstory drift ratios of structures before and after retrofitting. In addition, a retrofit efficiency index, which is defined as the ratio of the increment in seismic performance to the required retrofitting cost, is proposed to examine the efficiencies of the retrofit schemes derived from the model. The optimal seismic retrofit model is applied to the SAC benchmark examples for threestory and nine-story SMRFs with brittle connections. Using the retrofit efficiency index proposed in this study, the optimal retrofit schemes obtained from the model are found to be efficient for both examples in terms of energy dissipation capacity, roof drift ratio, and maximum inter-story drift ratio.

In order to forecast promising technologies in the field of next generation mobile communication, various patent indicators were analyzed such as citation per patent, patent family information, patent share, increase rate, and patent activity. These indicators were quantified into several indexes and then integrated into an evaluation score to provide promising technologies. As a result of the suggested patent analysis, four technologies out of twenty two in details classification were selected, which showed outstanding technology competitiveness, high patent share and increasing rates as well as high recent-patent-ratios and triad-patent-family-ratios. Each of the selected technologies scored more than 10 points in total, and the following four technologies were suggested as promising ones in the field of next generation mobile communication: 1) 3GPP based mobile communication, 2) beyond 4G mobile communication, 3) IEEE 802.16 based mobile communication, which are in medium classification of broadband mobile communication system, and 4) testing/certification system of mobile communication, which is in medium classification of mobile communication testing/certification system.

A coupled ice-ocean isopycnal numerical model of the Southern Ocean is established tostudy the circulation and its seasonal variability in the region around the Kerguelen Plateau. An analysis of the simulated results shows significant stripe-like structure and non-zonal feature of the Antarctic Cir-cumpolar Current (ACC) in this region. ACC begins to bifurcate and to turn its direction before meeting the plateau. The southernmost branch of ACC is near to the Antarctic coast and displays its strong interaction with the westward Antarctic Slope Current. The northern branch of ACC has a tendency of annual variations while the southern one varies in a semiannual cycle. The variation phases of both branches are coincident with that of the wind stress in this region.

The use of role models for learning and publicity is widespread in *** comparing four sets of primary school textbooks complied and published by People’s Education Press between 1999 and 2005,this study reveals the similarities and differences between these textbooks with regard to the positive role models covered and the virtues *** major role models in both versions of the textbooks can be characterized as representing four main types of persons:children,Han Chinese,males,and modern ***,the occupations of these role models are more diverse in the new textbooks,and the more recent editions place more emphasis on moral values such as“protecting the environment,”“loving peace,”and“promoting democratic cooperation.”The implications of the findings and the potential problems arising in the textbooks are discussed at the end,particularly noting the changing mode of regulation with regard to the individual-collective relationship.

We prepared the DNA-cetyltrimethyl ammonium complex, as well as the same complex intercalated with stable organic free radicals, and studied their magnetic properties by electron magnetic resonance (EMR) spectroscopy and by measuring the magnetization on a superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID). The UV-vis and CD spectra of DNA-quaternary alkyl ammonium complex (DNA--Q+) in organic solvent clearly demonstrated that it retained the double helical B-form conformation. The interhelical spacing of double strand DNA (dsDNA) increased when the counter ions (Na+) of phosphate groups of the natural DNA were replaced with the long alkyl quaternary ammonium groups. The inter-helical distance of DNA-cetyltrimethyl ammonium (CTMA) was 39.1  as confirmed by X-ray diffractometry. In general, the magnetization of the DNA-CTMA complex solid was found to be significantly lower than that of natural DNA. Moreover, intercalation of the complex with stable organic free radicals did not improve magnetization, which again was in marked contrast to natural DNA. EMR spectroscopic behavior of the complex in the solid state also was quite different from that of natural DNA: The unique broad EMR signal of natural DNA in the low field region with g-value greater than 10 disappeared in the DNA-CTMA complex.

The effect of Cuscuta chinensis extract on the rabbit penile corpus cavernosum （PCC） was evaluated in the present study. Penises obtained from healthy male New Zealand white rabbits （2.5-3.0 kg） were precontracted with phenylephrine （Phe, 10 pmol I^-1） and then treated with various concentrations of Cuscuta chinensis extract （1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 mg ml^-1）. The change in penile tension was recorded, and cyclic nucleotides in the PCC were measured by radioimmunoassay （RIA）. The interaction between Cuscuta chinensis and sildenafil was also evaluated. The result indicated that the PCC relaxation induced by Cuscuta chinensis extract was concentration-dependent. Pre-treatment with an nitric oxide synthase （NOS） inhibitor （No〉 nitro-L-arginine-methyl ester, L-NAME）, a guanylyl cyclase inhibitor （1H-[1,2,4]oxadiazolo[4,3-a]quinoxalin-l-one, ODQ）, or a protein kinase A inhibitor （KT 5720） did not completely inhibit the relaxation. Incubation of penile cavernous tissue with the Cuscuta chinensis extract significantly increased cyclic guanosine monophosphate （cGMP） and cyclic adenosine monophosphate （cAMP） in the PCC. Moreover, the Cuscuta chinensis extract significantly enhanced sildenafil-induced PCC relaxation. In conclusion, the Cuscuta chinensis extract exerts a relaxing effect on penile cavernous tissue in part by activating the NO-cGMP pathway, and it may improve erectile dysfunction （ED）, which does not completely respond to sildenafil citrate.

In today"s process-centered business organization, it is imperative that enterprise information system must be converted from task-centered to process-centered system. However, traditional software development methodology is function-oriented, in which each function manages its own data and it results in redundancy because data that belongs to one object are stored by several functions. Proposed in this paper is a process-driven software development methodology, in which business process is a major concern and workflow functionalities are identified and specified throughout the entire development life cycle. In the proposed methodology, the development process, modeling tools and deliverables are clarified explicitly. Proposed methodology can be a guideline to practitioners involved in enterprise software development, of which workflow is an essential part.
