Madagascar,a globally renowned biodiversity hotspot characterized by high rates of endemism,is one of the few remaining refugia for many plants and animal ***,global climate change has greatly affected the natural ecosystem and endemic species living in Madagascar,and will likely continue to influence species distribution in the *** is home to six endemic baobab(Adansonia spp.,Bombacoideae[Malvaceae])species(Adansonia grandidieri,***,***,***,***,***),which are remarkable and endangered *** study aimed to model the current distribution of suitable habitat for each baobab species endemic to Madagascar and determine the effect that climate change will have on suitable baobab habitat by the years 2050 and *** distribution was modeled using MaxEnt based on locality information of 245 occurrence sites of six species from both online database and our own field work.A total of seven climatic variables were used for the modeling *** present distribution of all six Madagascar's baobabs was largely influenced by temperature-related *** both expansion and contraction of suitable habitat are predicted for all species,loss of original suitable habitat is predicted to be *** the most widespread Madagascar baobab,***,more than 40%of its original habitat is predicted to be lost because of climate *** on these findings,we recommend that areas predicted to contract in response to climate change should be designated key protection regions for baobab conservation.

Brassinosteroids(BRs)are important regulators that control myriad aspects of plant growth and development,including biotic and abiotic stress responses,such that modulating BR homeostasis and signaling presents abundant opportunities for plant breeding and crop *** and other proteins involved in the biosynthesis and signaling of BRs are well understood from molecular genetics and phenotypic analysis in Arabidopsis thaliana;however,knowledge of the molecular functions of these genes in other plant species,especially cereal crop plants,is *** this manuscript,we comprehensively review functional studies of BR genes in Arabidopsis,maize,rice,Setaria,Brachypodium,and soybean to identify conserved and diversified functions across plant species and to highlight cases for which additional research is in *** performed phylogenetic analysis of gene families involved in the biosynthesis and signaling of BRs and re-analyzed publicly available transcriptomic *** trees coupled with expression data provide a valuable guide to supplement future research on BRs in these important crop species,enabling researchers to identify gene-editing targets for BR-related functional studies.

The addition of surface acoustic wave(SAW)technologies to microfluidics has greatly advanced lab-on-a-chip applications due to their unique and powerful attributes,including high-precision manipulation,versatility,integrability,biocompatibility,contactless nature,and rapid ***,the development of SAW microfluidic devices is limited by complex and time-consuming micro/nanofabrication techniques and access to cleanroom facilities for multistep photolithography and vacuum-based *** simplify the fabrication of SAW microfluidic devices with customizable dimensions and functions,we utilized the additive manufacturing technique of aerosol jet *** successfully fabricated customized SAW microfluidic devices of varying materials,including silver nanowires,graphene,and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)polystyrene sulfonate(PEDOT:PSS).To characterize and compare the acoustic actuation performance of these aerosol jet printed SAW microfluidic devices with their cleanroom-fabricated counterparts,the wave displacements and resonant frequencies of the different fabricated devices were directly measured through scanning laser Doppler ***,to exhibit the capability of the aerosol jet printed devices for lab-on-a-chip applications,we successfully conducted acoustic streaming and particle concentration ***,we demonstrated a novel solution-based,direct-write,single-step,cleanroom-free additive manufacturing technique to rapidly develop SAW microfluidic devices that shows viability for applications in the fields of biology,chemistry,engineering,and medicine.

Depression&Anxiety Among Women in northern Kenya:Sociodemographic Predictors

This article documents socio-demographic predictors of anxiety and depression among Maasai women in resource poor settings in northern *** findings emerged from the findings of a dissertation research that aimed to establish the treatment effectiveness of an eclectic model of psychoeducation(PE)in treating depressive and anxiety symptoms among the *** study adopted a quasi-experimental research design which had an experimental group(EG)and control group(CG).The population for the study was 686 female members of Conservation Enterprise Groups(CEG)in Laikipia County,from which a sample of 200 were recruited for the study(EG,n=100 and CG,n=100),at 80%power and 30%effective *** Beck’s Depression Inventory(BDI)and Beck’s Anxiety Inventory(BAI)tools were used to assess the symptoms of depression and anxiety,*** PE was provided as an intervention treatment to the EG at the middle and end of the study,after which the respondents were tested for symptoms of *** study established the prevalence of depression as 26.7%and 31.3%for anxiety and disorders,among women in the *** was analyzed using SPSS Version 21.0.

Prokaryotes are ubiquitous in the biosphere, important for human health and drive diverse biological and environmental processes. Systematics of prokaryotes, whose origins can be traced to the discovery of microorganisms in the 17th century, has transitioned from a phenotype-based classification to a more comprehensive polyphasic taxonomy and eventually to the current genome-based taxonomic *** transition aligns with a foundational shift from studies focused on phenotypic traits that have limited comparative value to those using genome sequences. In this context, Bergey's Manual of Systematics of Archaea and Bacteria(BMSAB) and Bergey's International Society for Microbial Systematics(BISMiS) play a pivotal role in guiding prokaryotic systematics. This review focuses on the historical development of prokaryotic systematics with a focus on the roles of BMSAB and BISMiS. We also explore significant contributions and achievements by microbiologists, highlight the latest progress in the field and anticipate challenges and opportunities within prokaryotic systematics. Additionally, we outline five focal points of BISMiS that are aimed at addressing these challenges. In conclusion, our collaborative effort seeks to enhance ongoing advancements in prokaryotic systematics, ensuring its continued relevance and innovative characters in the contemporary landscape of genomics and bioinformatics.

茜草科是世界被子植物第四大科,约占所有全球开花植物的4%,广布于热带和亚热带地区,少数草本延伸至寒带。撒哈拉以南非洲,包括热带东非地区,特别是肯尼亚和坦桑尼亚的山区和沿海森林,具有大量的茜草科植物,特别是稀有和特有物种。近年来,一些茜草科的新类群在肯尼亚不断被发现,同时一些新记录也陆续被报道,表明该地区茜草科多样性研究还不够充分。本研究的目的是通过标本查阅和野外考察,查明肯尼亚茜草科植物的多样性,并记录其在肯尼亚47个县的详细分布,同时,依据最新的分子系统对该科植物进行修订,为编撰《肯尼亚植物志》提供本底资料。本研究对来自东非植物标本馆（EA）、英国皇家植物园植物标本馆（Kew）和中国科学院武汉植物园植物标本馆（HIB）的肯尼亚茜草科2万多份标本进行了核查和数字化,并根据最新的分类系统对所有物种进行了修订,得到肯尼亚茜草科植物的物种名录。通过所有标本的详细经纬度信息,计算各物种的空间分布以及县级的物种丰富度和特有丰富度。研究结果表明,肯尼亚茜草科植物共274种,隶属于3亚科32个族81属。在47个县级的物种丰富度分析种显示,物种丰富度最高的属是九节属（Psychotria）、大沙叶属（Pavetta）和水线草属（Oldenlandia）。物种丰富度最高的县分别是夸勒（Kwale）、基里菲（Kilifi）和泰塔塔维塔县（Taita Taveta）。肯尼亚茜草科特有种共有36种,其中仍有13种未确定,需要进一步进行野外调查。研究发现,肯尼亚的许多地区,特别是北部和东北部的县,仍然只有很少的标本收集。沿海地区的县物种丰富度最高。基于当前IUCn的濒危等级评估,肯尼亚茜草科约有2种濒临灭绝,5种易危,因此需要加大对这些物种栖息地的保护力度。本研究基于大量的标本资料,并结合当前最新的分子系统,全面研究了茜草科植物在肯尼亚的种类（包括亚科、族、属等）、特有性、以及该科植物在肯尼亚的县级分布,为《肯尼亚植物志》-茜草科卷册的编撰以及该科植物野外调查和保护提供了基础信息。
