Purpose: Reduction and fixation in femoral neck fracture in young patients have a problem of nonunion, requiring additional procedures like valgus osteotomy;but fixation devices are technically difficult for in experienced surgeons. We aims to assess the results of valgus osteotomy in femoral neck fracture in our setup. Methods: We reported a series of 20 patients of higher Pauwel's angled fracture of femoral neck fracture presenting late wherein valgus osteotomy was added to reduction fixation which was secured with a commonly available 135 dynamic hip screw and plate. Results: Femoral neck fractures united in 16 patients (80%). Excellent to good results (Harris hip score >80) were seen in 70% patients. Angle of correction of preoperative Pauwels has been changed from 68.3 to 34.3. Conclusion: The 135 dynamic hip screw and plate provides rigid internal fixation after valgus osteotomy and being a more familiar fixation device simplifies the procedure with good results.

Background:Baliospermum solanifolium is a traditional medicinal plant,locally known as“dantigaacha”from Eu-phorbiaceae family,and has been used in different diseases treatments likes helminthiasis,skin diseases,diabetes,snake-bite,and leukoderma.Objectives:Depending on the traditional uses of B.solanifolium and the lack of scientific works,we aimed to conduct some pharmacological tests on its leaves.Methods:Active constituents of B.solanifolium were assessed by qualitative screening.DPPH(2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl)was used for free radical scavenging assay.Behavioral change and mortality rate were used as indicators to assess the toxicity of B.solanifolium.The antidiabetic potential was evaluated by oral glucose toler-ance test(OGTT)and alpha-glucosidase enzyme inhibitory activity.In antidiarrheal activity,castor oil-induced mice were used.Antibacterial test was carried out by disk diffusion assay and MIC determination.Furthermore,analgesic activity was done by acetic acid-induced writhing method.Results:B.solanifolium contains alkaloids,carbohydrates,glycosides,flavonoids,tannis,phenolics etc.Acute toxicity test ensured the safety of the extract.In DPPH,the extract showed antioxidant activity with an IC50(con-centration needed to scavenge 50%DPPH)value of 61.65μg/mL.Total phenolic,flavonoid and tannin contents were determined as 124 mg GAE/g,440 mg QE/g and 344 mg GAE/g dried extract,respectively.In OGTT,the ex-tract reduced the blood glucose level significantly.In the alpha-glucosidase inhibitory activity,the plant showed a concentration-dependent reduction of the enzyme at IC50 of 8.53 mg/mL.In the antidiarrheal test,B.solanifolium inhibit defecation 30.69%and 53.41%at dose 250 mg/kg and 500 mg/kg,respectively.The extract also showed antibacterial activity against four bacterial strains in the disk diffusion method and minimum inhibitory concen-tration(MIC)values were 62.5μg/mL,62.5μg/mL,125μg/mL and 62.5μg/mL against four bacterial strains,independently.In analgesic activity test,the extract reduced the wr

We studied the dynamical phase transition in kinetic Ising ferromagnetsdriven by oscillating magnetic field in meanfield approximation. The meanfield differentialequation was solved by sixth order Runge-Kutta-Felberg method. We calculatedthe transition temperature as a function of amplitude and frequency of oscillatingfield. This was plotted against field amplitude taking frequency as a parameter.As frequency increases the phase boundary is observed to become inflated. The phaseboundary shows an inflection point which separates the nature of the transition. Onthe dynamic phase boundary a tricritical point (TCP) was found, which separates thenature (continuous/discontinuous) of the dynamic transition across the phase boundary.The inflection point is identified as the TCP and hence a simpler method of determiningthe position of TCP was found. TCP was observed to shift towards high fieldfor higher frequency. As frequency decreases the dynamic phase boundary is observeto shrink. In the zero frequency limit this boundary shows a tendency to merge to thetemperature variation of the coercive field.

The hot electron transport in wurtzite phase gallium nitride（Wz-GaN） has been studied in this paper. An analytical expression of electron drift velocity under the condition of impact ionization has been developed by considering all major scattering mechanisms such as deformation potential acoustic phonon scattering, piezoelectric acoustic phonon scattering, optical phonon scattering, electron-electron scattering and ionizing scattering. Numerical calculations show that electron drift velocity in Wz-GaN saturates at 1.44 ×10^5 m/s at room temperature for the electron concentration of 10^22 m^-3. The effects of temperature and doping concentration on the hot electron drift velocity in Wz-GaN have also been studied. Results show that the saturation electron drift velocity varies from 1.91 ×10^5-0.77 ×10^5 m/s for the change in temperature within the range of 10-1000 K, for the electron concentration of 10^22 m^-3; whereas the same varies from 1.44 ×10^5-0.91 ×10^5 m/s at 300 K for the variation in the electron concentration within the range of 10^22-10^25 m^-3. The numerically calculated results have been compared with the Monte Carlo simulated results and experimental data reported earlier, and those are found to be in good agreement.

We have studied the reversal of magnetisation in Ising ferromagnet by the field having gradient along a particular direction. We employed the Monte Carlo simulation with Metropolis single spin flip algorithm. The average lifetime of the metastable state was observed to increase with the magnitude of the gradient of applied field. In the high gradient regime, the system was observed to show two distinct region of up and down spins. The interface or the domain wall was observed to move as one increases the gradient. The displacement of the mean position of the interface was observed to increase with the gradient as hyperbolic tangent function. The roughness of the interface was observed to decay exponentially as the gradient increases. The number of spin flip per site was observed to show a discontinuity in the vicinity of the domain wall. The amount of the discontinuity was found to diverge with the system size as a power law fashion with an exponent 5/3.

The bearing capacity of interfering footings located near the slope face suffers from reduced bearing capacity due to the formation of the curtailed passive zone. Depending upon the position of the footing, their spacing and steepness of the slope different extents of bearing capacity reduction can be exhibited. A series of finite element investigation has been done with the aid of Plaxis 3 D v AE.01 to elucidate the influence of various geotechnical and geometrical parameters on the ultimate bearing capacity of interfering surface strip footings located at the crest of the natural soil slope. Based on the large database obtained from the numerical simulation, a6-8-1 Artificial Neural Network architecture has been considered for the assessment of the ultimate bearing capacity of interfering strip footings placed on the crest of natural soil slope. Sensitivity analyses have been conducted to establish the relative significance of the contributory parameters, which exhibited that for the stated problem, apart from shear strength parameters, the setback ratio and spacing of footing are the prime contributory parameters.

The dynamical response of spin-S(S=1, 3/2, 2, 3) Ising ferromagnet to the plane propagating wave, standing magnetic field wave and uniformly oscillating field with constant frequency are studied separately in two dimensions by extensive Monte Carlo simulation. Depending upon the strength of the magnetic field and the value of the spin state of the Ising spin lattice two different dynamical phases are observed. For a fixed value of S and the amplitude of the propagating magnetic field wave the system undergoes a dynamical phase transition from propagating phase to pinned phase as the temperature of the system is cooled down. Similarly in case with standing magnetic wave the system undergoes dynamical phase transition from high temperature phase where spins oscillate coherently in alternate bands of half wavelength of the standing magnetic wave to the low temperature pinned or spin frozen phase. For a fixed value of the amplitude of magnetic field oscillation the transition temperature is observed to decrease to a limiting value as the value of spin S is increased. The time averaged magnetisation over a full cycle of the magnetic field oscillation plays the role of the dynamic order parameter. A comprehensive phase boundary is drawn in the plane of magnetic field amplitude and dynamic transition temperature. It is found that the phase boundary shrinks inwards for high value of spin state S.Also in the low temperature(and high field) region the phase boundaries are closely spaced.
