Soil quality assessment for desertification based on multi-indicators with the best-worst method in a semi-arid ecosystem

Since there are some signs of land degradation and desertification showing how soil sustainability is threatened, it is crucial to create a soil quality index(SQI) model in the semi-arid ?orum Basin, situated between the Black Sea and Anatolia Region, Central Turkey. The primary aims of the study are:(1) to determine SQI values of the micro-basin in terms of land degradation and ***, the best-worst method(BWM) was used to determine the weighting score for each parameter;(2) to produce the soils' spatial distribution by utilizing different geostatistical models and GIS(geographic information system) techniques;and(3) to validate the obtained SQI values with biomass reflectance values. Therefore, the relationship of RE-OSAVI(red-edge optimized soil-adjusted vegetation index) and NDVI(normalized difference vegetation index) generated from Sentinel-2A satellite images at different time series with soil quality was examined. Results showed that SQI values were high in the areas that had almost a flat and slight slope. Moreover, the areas with high clay content and thick soil depth did not have salinity problems, and were generally distributed in the middle parts of the basin. However, the areas with a high slope, poor vegetation, high sand content, and low water holding capacity had low SQI ***, a statistically high positive correlation of RE-OSAVI and NDVI indices with soil quality was found, and NDVI had the highest correlative value for June(R~2=0.802) compared with RE-OSAVI.

The Level of Psychosocial Skills of Nurses Caring for Cancer Patients and Affecting Factors:Results of a Multicenter Study

Caring for cancer patients requires both technical and psychosocial nursing *** aim of this study was to determine the psychosocial care skill levels of nurses and affecting *** multicenter,cross-sectional study was conducted with 1,189 nurses providing direct care to adult cancer patients in 32 hospitals in 12 geographical regions of Turkey.A questionnaire,the Psychosocial Skills Form,and the Professional Quality of Life Scale were used to collect the ***’psychosocial skill level was in the range of 2.72±0.98 and 2.47±0.89 out of four *** skills such as empathic response,active listening,and the ability to provide information were found to be at a higher level than skills such as the activation of social support systems,therapeutic touch,and development of coping *** 40%of nurses had received psychosocial care training,and 87%were interested in receiving additional psychosocial ***,educational status,previous training in psychosocial care,and work experience with cancer patients were shown to affect psychosocial skill *** was a positive relationship between the level of psychosocial skills and the level of compassion satisfaction,and a negative relationship between the level of psychosocial skills and the level of burnout and compassion fatigue(p<0.05).Nurses perceive themselves as having a medium to high level of psychosocial skills yet desire additional *** results of this study may contribute to the development of training programs according to the needs of nurses who care for cancer patients.

Development of open-porosity magnesium foam produced by investment casting

High-porosity,open-cell AZ91 magnesium alloy foams of two pore sizes were fabricated by means of investment casting technology,using PUR foam *** casting variables such as pressure,mould temperature and metal pouring temperature were thoroughly investigated to define the most optimal casting *** mechanical properties of the fabricated foams were measured in compression tests.A potential application for the foams considered is temporary bioresorbable bone implants,therefore the mechanical properties of the foams were compared with those of cancellous bone *** with smaller pore size and lower porosity(20 PPI and 80%±87%)exhibited mechanical properties in the lower regions of the cancellous bone property range(Young’s modulus 36.5±77.5 MPa),while foams with higher pore size and porosity(10 PPI and~90%)were found to have insufficient compression strength(Young’s modulus 11.65±23.8),but thickening their walls and lowering their porosity below 90%yielded foams with Young’s modulus between 36.5 and 77.5 *** fractures were also investigated to determine their collapse mechanism.A series of corrosion tests in stimulated body fluid was carried out to determine their applicability as a *** Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation(PEO)process was used in a feasibility study to examine the microstructure and chemical composition of foams with protective coating.

Phylogenetic relationship,biogeography,and conservation genetics of endangered Fraxinus chiisanensis(Oleaceae),endemic to South Korea

Endemic plants are important for understanding phylogenetic relationships,biogeographical history,and genetic variation because of their restricted distribution and their role in conserving ***,we investigated the phylogenetic relationships of the Korean endemic Fraxinus chiisanensis by reconstructing the molecular phylogeny of Fraxinus based on two nuclear DNA(nrITS and phantastica)and two chloroplast DNA(psbA-trnH and rp132-trnL)*** our fossil-calibrated phylogenetic framework,we also inferred the biogeographical history of *** provide a scientific basis for the conservation of ***,we determined the levels of genetic diversity and genetic differentiation in this *** information from nuclear and chloroplast DNA sequence data,our molecular phylogenetic analyses identified *** as a genetically distinct unit from its sister group,Fraxinus platypoda from *** molecular dating analyses using nuclear and chloroplast DNA data sets show *** diverged from its sister *** in the Early or Middle Miocene and differentiated in the Late Miocene on the Korean *** results suggest that the divergence of *** was associated with the submergence of the East China Sea land bridge and enhanced monsoons in East *** compared to ***,*** exhibits low genetic diversity within populations and high genetic differentiation among *** results help us to understand the evolutionary history of *** and to develop a conservation strategy for this species.

The molecular mechanisms for NF-κB signaling transduction and transcription have been the most attractive subjects for both basic research and pharmaceutical industries due to its important roles in both physiological and pathogenesis,particularly the close association of dysregulated NF-κB with tumorgenesis and *** novel intracellular molecular events that regulate NF-κB activity have been described recently,including the discovery of an alternative signaling pathway that appears inducing a specific subset genes involved in adoptive immune ***-level and multi-dimensional regulation of NF-κB activity by phosphorylation and acetylation modifications have unveiled and became the hottest targets for potentially tissue specific molecular *** emerging mechanism for NF-κB-responsive gene's regulation where NF-κB participates the transcriptional regulation independent of its cognate regulatory binding site within the target gene's promoter but facilitating the transaction activity of other involved transcription factors, that implicated an novel transcriptional activities for NF-κ***,the current review will focus on these recent progresses that have been made on NF-κB signaling transduction and *** & Molecular Immunology.2004;1(6):425-435.

Ameliorative effects of human adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells on myelin basic protein-induced experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis in Lewis rats

Mesenchymal stem cells have been previously shown to exert an immunomodulatory function. The present study sought to investigate the effects of multipotential human adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells （hAdMSCs） on disease progression and cytokine expression in Lewis rats with experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis （EAE） induced by myelin basic protein. The duration of EAE paralysis in the group treated on day 7 posfimmunization with 5 × 10^6 hAdMSCs was significantly reduced compared with the vehicle-treated controls and the 1 x 106 hAdMSC- treated group. The duration of EAE paralysis in the groups treated with 5 × 10^6 hAdMSCs on both day 1 and day 7 postimmunization was significantly reduced compared with the vehicle-treated controls and the groups treated with 5 × 10^6 hAdMSCs on both day 7 and day 10 postimmunization. The mRNA expression of interleukin-10 and indoleamine 2, 3-dioxygenase was significantly decreased in the hAdMSC-treated group compared with the vehicle-treated group. These findings suggest that the ameliorative effects of hAdMSCs on EAE symptoms operate in a dose- and time-dependent manner and can be mediated in part by the ample production of anti-inflammatory cytokines.

Fabrication and Gas Response Characteristics of Metal Semiconductor Nanostructures Grown by Ambient Pressure

SnO_2 nanowires and ZnO nanorods were grown on the surface of thin film by heat treatment of mental Sn and Zn under Ar gas flow and O_2 atmospheric *** sensitivity of the SnO_2 thin film device on which grown nanowires to CO gas(concentration of 5000μg/g)was 50% at the operating temperature of 200℃.In case of using Pt as catalysts,the sensitivity was enhanced and operating temperature was reduced(sensitivity of 70% at the operating temperature of 150℃). The sensitivity of the ZnO nanorods device using Cu as catalysts to NO_x gas was 90% at the operating temperature of 200℃.It was found that the sensitivity to CO and NO_x gases for the device on which grown nanostructures was much higher than those for general thin films devices.

AIM: To investigate the frequency of occult hepatitis B, the clinical course of hepatitis B virus (HBV) reactivation and reverse seroconversion and associated risk factors in autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) recipients. METHODS: This study was conducted in 90 patients undergoing autologous HSCT. Occult HBV infection was investigated by HBV-DNA analysis prior to transplantation, while HBV serology and liver function tests were screened prior to and serially after transplantation. HBV-related events including reverse seroconversion and reactivation were recorded in all patients. RESULTS: None of the patients had occult HBV prior to transplantation. Six (6.7%) patients were positivefor HBV surface antigen (HBsAg) prior to transplantation and received lamivudine prophylaxis; they did not develop HBV reactivation after transplantation. Clinical HBV infection emerged in three patients after transplantation who had negative HBV-DNA prior to HSCT. Two of these three patients had HBV reactivation while one patient developed acute hepatitis B. Three patients had anti-HBc as the sole hepatitis B-related antibody prior to transplantation, two of whom developed hepatitis B reactivation while none of the patients with antibody to HBV surface antigen (anti-HBs) did so. The 14 anti-HBs-and/or anti-HBc-positive patients among the 90 HSCT recipients experienced either persistent (8 patients) or transient (6 patients) disappearance of anti-HBs and/or anti-HBc. HBsAg seroconversion and clinical hepatitis did not develop in these patients. Female gender and multiple myeloma emerged as risk factors for loss of antibody in regression analysis (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Anti-HBc as the sole HBV marker seems to be a risk factor for reactivation after autologous HSCT. Lamivudine prophylaxis in HbsAg-positive patients continues to be effective.
