AIM:To investigate the role of osteopontin(OPN) and its splice variants in the proliferation of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).METHODS:The expression of OPN variants in HCC cell lines as well as HCC tissue samples and nontumour tissue was studied using polymerase chain *** variant cDNAs were cloned into a mammalian expression vector allowing b.th transient expression and the production of stab.e OPN expressing cell *** expression was studied in these cells using Western b.otting,immunofluoresnce and enzyme linked immunosorb.nt assay.A CD44 b.ocking antib.dy and siRNA targeting of CD44 were used to examine the role of this receptor in the OPN stimulated cell growth ob.erved in ***-7 cells stab.y expressing either OPN-A,-b.or-C were injected sub.utaneously into the flanks of nude mice to ob.erve in vivo tumour *** of OPN mRNA and protein in these tumours was examined using reverse transcriptionpolymerase chain reaction and ***:OPN is expressed in HCC in 3 forms,the full length OPN-A and 2 splice variants OPN-b.*** variant expression was noted in HCC tissue as well as cognate surrounding cirrhotic liver *** of these OPN variants in the HCC derived cell line Huh-7 resulted in secretion of OPN into the culture *** of OPN conditioned media to na ve Huh-7 and HepG2 cells resulted in significant cell growth suggesting that all OPN variants can modulate cell proliferation in a paracrine *** the OPN mediated increase in cellular proliferation was dependent on CD44 as only CD44 positive cell lines responded to OPN conditioned media while siRNA knockdown of CD44 b.ocked the proliferative *** expression also increased the proliferation of Huh-7 cells in a sub.utaneous nude mouse tumour model,with Huh-7 cells expressing OPN-A showing the greatest proliferative ***:This study demonstrates that OPN plays a significant role in the proliferation of HCC thro

Hydropower production is one of the greatest threats to fluvial ecosystems and freshwater *** that we have entered the Anthropocene,there is an opportunity to reflect on what might constitute a‘sustainab.e’Anthropocene in the context of hydropower and riverine fish *** elements of existing practices that promote favorab.e social-ecological outcomes(i.e.,‘b.ight spots’)is timely given that there are plans to expand hydropower capacity in previously undammed rivers,intensify dam development in some of the world's largest river systems,and re-license existing *** approach this from a pragmatic perspective:for the foreseeab.e future,hydropower will likely remain an important source of renewab.e *** offer support for moving toward a more‘sustainab.e’Anthropocene,we provide syntheses of b.st practices during the siting,design,construction,operation,and compensation phases of hydropower development to minimize impacts on inland *** each phase,we offer positive examples(or what might b. considered‘b.ight spots’)pertaining to some of the approaches describ.d within our syntheses,acknowledging that these projects may not b. viewed as without ecological and(or)societal detriment b. all *** findings underscore the importance of protecting critical hab.tat and free-flowing river reaches through careful site selection and b.sinscale planning,infrastructure designs that minimize reservoir effects and facilitate safe passage of fish,construction of hydropower plants using b.st practices that minimize long-term damage,operating guidelines that mimic natural flow conditions,and compensation that is lasting,effective,inclusive,and locally *** from these‘b.ight spots’may require engagement of diverse stakeholders,professionals,and governments at scales that extend well b.yond a given site,river,or even ***,environmental planning that integrates hydropower development into b.oader discussions

由于过低而频繁的刈割所引起的植株生长减慢和活力降低,是草地耕作中常见的一个问题。本项试验的目的在于评价刈割对'Merion'草地早熟禾(Poa Prateusis L.)生长及生理的影响。在一个人为控制的环境(昼温23℃,夜温16℃)中,从种子开始,分别存彼此相隔的育苗罐中完成为期8个星期的苗期。对这些幼苗以每周二次(3—4天),每一次,和每二周一次的数周频率和以2.5厘米和6.2厘米的茬高刈割,用来和受控制但没有刈割的植株相比较。在第一次刈割之后每隔0—2周,2—4周,4—6周的间隔时间里的测定植株对刈割的反应情况,结果是,以2.5厘米茬高刈割的植株,其根的干重和枝条的再生比以6.2厘米茬高刈割的植株为大。在上述两个刈割高度上,每二周刈割一次的植株,其侧枝的形成(包括分蘖和地下茎)比每周刈割两次的植株要大些或者相同。在同样两个刈割高度上,每周刈割一次的植株,其根和枝条(包括叶和叶鞘)的比率,一般比每二周刈割一次的植株要大。在多数情况下,频繁刈割的植株,其根和叶鞘光同化14C的积累量比不频繁刈割的植株较多,而在叶片部分的积累量较少。和每周刈割两次的植株,其单位叶面积的光合作用和暗呼吸作用的速率一般比每两周刈割一次的植株高些,而植株总叶片面积上的这些同样参数,每周刈割两次的比每两周刈割一次的为低。由于过低而频繁的刈割而引起的'Merion'草地早熟禾生长和活力的降低可归困为叶片面积的减少。基于这些研究结果,我们认为,变动刈割频率比调整刈割高度,能更有效地减少刈对'Merion'草地早熟禾的不良影响。

将每组８只１日龄白洛克鸡的几个组，分别以新城疫病毒（ＮＤＶ０Ｂ－１和ＶＧ／ＧＧＡ珠点眼免疫；部分鸡到１７日龄时进行二免。对免疫过１次或２次的８组鸡，到３０日龄时以速发型嗜内脏型新城疫强毒（ｖｖＮＤＶ）Ｃａｌｉｆ－１０８３株进行肌注或点眼攻毒。一组未免疫的对照组进行点眼攻毒。攻毒结果：８只未免疫的对照鸡全死亡；经Ｂ－１株免疫的１６只鸡中有２只死亡；而经ＶＡ／ＧＧＡ株免疫的１６只鸡中却无一死亡。

b.ckground: The treatment of rest pain, ulceration, and gangrene of the leg(severe limb.ischaemia) remains controversial. We instigated the b.SIL trial to compare the outcome of b.pass surgery and b.lloon angioplasty in such patients. Methods: We randomly assigned 452 patients, who presented to 27 UK hospitals with severe limb.ischaemia due to infra-inguinal disease, to receive a surgery-first(n=228) or an angioplasty-first(n=224)strategy. The primary endpoint was amputation(of trial leg) free survival. Analysis was b. intention to treat. The b.SIL trial is registered with the National Research Register(NRR) and as an International Standard Randomised Controlled Trial, numb.r ISRCTN45398889. Findings: The trial ran for 5.5 years, and follow-up finished when patients reached an endpoint(amputation of trial leg ab.ve the ankle or death). Seven individuals were lost to follow-up after randomisation(three assigned angioplasty, four surgery); of these, three were lost(one angioplasty, two surgery) during the first year of follow-up. 195(86% ) of 228 patients assigned to b.pass surgery and 216(96% ) of 224 to b.lloon angioplasty underwent an attempt at their allocated intervention at a median(IQR) of 6(3- 16) and 6(2- 20) days after randomisation, respectively. At the end of follow-up, 248(55% ) patients were alive without amputation(of trial leg), 38(8% ) alive with amputation, 36(8% ) dead after amputation, and 130(29% ) dead without amputation. After 6 months, the two strategies did not differ significantly in amputation-free survival(48 vs 60 patients; unadjusted hazard ratio 1.07, 95% CI 0.72- 1.6; adjusted hazard ratio 0.73, 0.49- 1.07). We saw no difference in health- related quality of life b.tween the two strategies, b.t for the first year the hospital costs associated with a surgery-first strategy were ab.ut one third higher than those with an angioplasty-first strategy. Societal b.osecurity–measures b.ilt into everyday society to minimize risks from pests and diseases–is an important aspect of managing epidemics and *** aimed to identify societal options for reducing the transmission and spread of respiratory *** used SARS-CoV-2(severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2)as a case study to meet the immediate need to manage the COVID-19 pandemic and eventually transition to more normal societal conditions,and to catalog options for managing similar pandemics in the *** used a‘solution scanning’*** read the literature;consulted psychology,pub.ic health,medical,and solution scanning experts;crowd-sourced options using social media;and collated comments on a ***,we present a list of 519 possib.e measures to reduce SARS-CoV-2 transmission and *** provide a long list of options for policymakers and b.sinesses to consider when designing b.osecurity plans to comb.t SARS-CoV-2 and similar pathogens in the *** also developed an online application to help with this *** encourage testing of actions,documentation of outcomes,revisions to the current list,and the addition of further options.
