Assessing gully erosion and rehabilitation using multi temporal LiDAR DEMs:Case study from the Great Barrier Reef catchments,Australia

Millions of dollars are being spent on gully rehabilitation to help reduce excess fine sediment delivery to the Great Barrier Reef(GBR).There is an urgent need for(i)prioritisation of active gullies for rehabilitation and(ii)the development of methodologies to inform the effectiveness of *** this study we analyse DEMs of Difference derived from 0.5 m resolution 2-3 year interval multi-temporal LiDAR data collected pre and post rehabilitation at three variable gully morphologies in the Burdekin *** analysis indicates that the highest annual average fine sediment erosion rates for the untreated control gullies occur at the linear gully(53.38 t ha^(-1)y^(-1))followed by linear-alluvial gully(34.24 t ha^(-1)y^(-1))and least at the alluvial gully(14.41 t ha^(-1)y^(-1)).The proportional loss or export of fine sediment from the gullies in their un-treated condition ranges from∼68 to 90%of what is eroded,and when the gullies are treated the proportion of fine sediment that is retained in the gully proportional to what is eroded increases to∼60%at all *** pre-treatment baseline erosion rates,and additional post treatment LiDAR captures,it is difficult to quantify the treatment *** results offer insights in the erosion mechanisms within different geomorphic gully morphologies and rehabilitation effects in these erosional *** study provides crucial knowledge of gully dynamics that can be coupled with other lines of evidence for better prioritisation of rehabilitation in the GBR catchments.

Centrifugal blood pumps have become popular for adult extracorporeal membrane oxygenation(ECMO)due to their superior blood handling and reduced thrombosis risk featured by their secondary flow paths that avoid stagnant ***,the high rotational speed within a centrifugal blood pump can introduce high shear stress,causing a significant shear-induced hemolysis *** Revolution pump,the Rotaflow pump,and the CentriMag pump are three of the leading centrifugal blood pumps on the *** many experimental and computational studies have focused on evaluating the hydraulic and hemolytic performances of the Rotaflow and CentriMag pumps,there are few on the Revolution ***,a thorough direct comparison of these three pumps'flow characteristics and hemolysis is not *** this study,we conducted a computational and experimental analysis to compare the hemolytic performances of the Revolution,Rotaflow,and CentriMag pumps operating under a clinically relevant condition,i.e.,the blood flow rate of 5 L/min and pump pressure head of 350 mmHg,for adult ECMO *** silico simulations were used to characterize the shear stress distributions and predict the hemolysis index,while in vitro blood loop studies experimentally determined hemolysis *** simulation results and experimental data demonstrated that the CentriMag pump caused the lowest hemolysis while the Revolution pump generated the highest hemolysis.

Construction of a Rice Glycosyltransferase Phylogenomic Database and Identification of Rice-Diverged Glycosyltransferases

Glycosyltransferases （GTs; EC 2.4.x.y） constitute a large group of enzymes that form glycosidic bonds through transfer of sugars from activated donor molecules to acceptor molecules. GTs are critical to the biosynthesis of plant cell walls, among other diverse functions. Based on the Carbohydrate-Active enZymes （CAZy） database and sequence ***, we have identified 609 potential GT genes （loci） corresponding to 769 transcripts （gene models） in rice （Oryza sativa）, the reference monocotyledonous species. Using domain composition and sequence similarity, these rice GTs were classified into 40 CAZy families plus an additional unknown class. We found that two Pfam domains of unknown function, PF04577 and PF04646, are associated with GT families GT61 and GT31, respectively. To facilitate functional analysis of this important and large gene family, we created a phylogenomic Rice GT Database （http：//ricephylogenomics. ***/cellwalls/gtJ）. Through the database, several classes of functional genomic data, including mutant lines and gene expression data, can be displayed for each rice GT in the context of a phylogenetic tree, allowing for comparative analysis both within and between GT families. Comprehensive digital expression analysis of public gene expression data revealed that most （-80%） rice GTs are expressed. Based on analysis with Inparanoid, we identified 282 ‘rice-diverged＇ GTs that lack orthologs in sequenced dicots （Arabidopsis thaliana, Populus tricocarpa, Medicago truncatula, and Ricinus communis）. Combining these analyses, we identified 33 rice-diverged GT genes （45 gene models） that are highly expressed in above-ground, vegetative tissues. From the literature and this analysis, 21 of these loci are excellent targets for functional examination toward understanding and manipulating grass cell wall qualities. The rice Xa21 gene, which confers resistance to the bacterial pathogen Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae （Xoo）, encodes a receptor-like kinase, Few components involved in transducing the Xa21-mediated defense response have yet been identified. Here, we report that XA21 binds to a WRKY transcription factor, called OsWRKY62. The OsWRKY62 gene encodes two splice variants （OsWRKY62.1 and OsWRKY62.2）. OsWRKY62.1：smGFP2 and OsWRKY62.2：smGFP2 fusion pro- teins partially localize to the nucleus. Transgenic plants overexpressing OsWRKY62.1 are compromised in basal defense and Xa21-mediated resistance to Xoo. Furthermore, overexpression of OsWRKY62.1 suppresses the activation of defenserelated genes. These results imply that OsWRKY62 functions as a negative regulator of innate immunity in rice, and serves as a critical mediator of both basal and race-specific defense responses.

Hospital ethical climate associated with the professional quality of life among nurses during the early stage of COVID-19 pandemic inWuhan,China:A cross-sectional study

The hydrogenation of levulinic acid to γ-valerolactone over Cu–ZrO2 catalysts prepared by a pH-gradient methodology

Penicillin-G: Efficacy against <i>Flavobacterium psychrophilum</i>and evaluation of lethal dose limits for rainbow trout

The effect of penicillin-G on Flavobacterium psychrophilum, the cause of bacterial coldwater disease, was evaluated in 15 min and overnight exposures. Separate tests evaluated the effect of increasing doses of penicillin-G to rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss eggs, fingerlings, and adults. Rainbow trout eggs were exposed for 1 h to penicillin doses of 0, 250, 500, 1,000, 10,000, 50,000, or 100,000 IU/mL. Mean percent hatch ranged from 64.6% to 75.1%, and did not significantly differ among the treatments. Fingerlings were injected intraperitoneally (i.p.) with 200 μL of 0, 1, 10, 100, 1,000, 10,000, 100,000, or 500,000 IU/mL. Probit analysis resulted in a LD10 (lethal dose for 10% of injected fish) of 52,868 IU/mL (95% confidence limits: 31,522 - 69,490 IU/mL) and a LD50 of 131,466 IU/mL (113,095 - 157,878 IU/mL). Brood stock were injected (i.p.) with 200 μL of penicillin at concentrations of 0 (control), 10,000, 50,000, 100,000, 200,000, 400,000, or 800,000 IU/mL. Mortality ranged from 0% to 7% (50,000 IU/mL treatment) and did not significantly differ among treatments. In 28 h exposure tests, penicillin concentrations of ≥ 333 IU/mL were required to completely suppress growth of F. psychrophilum. In 15 min exposures, ≥ 10,000 IU/mL were needed to achieve the same result. Tests indicated that rainbow trout eggs can tolerate 1 h exposures to penicillin-G concentrations as high as 100,000 IU/mL, and that brood fish can tolerate injections of at least 800,000 IU/mL. Fingerling data however, suggested that injection of doses greater than 10,000 IU/mL can be toxic. The data suggests rainbow trout eggs or brood can tolerate high doses of penicillin-G that could be used for controlling the transfer of F. psychrophilum to hatcheries receiving eggs.
