Autoimmune encephalitis after surgery for appendiceal cancer:A case report

BACKGROUND Primary cancer of the appendix is rare and often difficult to diagnose preoperatively due to the lack of specific clinical symptoms. Autoimmune encephalitis(AIE) is the most common cause of non-infectious encephalitis. The etiologies of AIE include tumors(paraneoplastic), infections(parainfections), or recessive infections. The tumors that have been reported to cause AIE include thymomas, ovarian teratomas, lung cancers, and breast cancers. However, there are no reports of AIE occurring after surgery for appendiceal cancer. This report describes the diagnosis and treatment of a patient with an appendiceal cancer and postoperative *** SUMMARY We report the case of a 47-year-old man who was transferred to our hospital due to a recurrent low intestinal obstruction. Abdominal enhanced computed tomography was used to consider the possibility of a terminal ileal tumor with serous infiltration and lymph node metastasis. A right hemi-colectomy was performed under general anesthesia with an ileo-transcolon anastomosis and laparoscopic exploration. The postoperative pathologic evaluation revealed a high-grade goblet cell carcinoma of the appendix, accompanied by mesangial and abdominal lymph node metastases, and neural tube and vascular infiltration. The operation was completed without complication. The patient developed restlessness on postoperative day 4, and gradually developed a disturbance of consciousness on postoperative day 6. He was transferred to West China Hospital of Sichuan University and diagnosed with *** Albeit rare, the occurrence of neurologic and psychiatric symptoms in patients with an appendiceal cancer postoperatively suggests the possibility of AIE.

Apparent critical current density(j_(Ac)^(a))of garnet all-solid-state lithium metal symmetric cells(ASSLSCs)is a fundamental parameter for designing all-solid-state lithium metal ***,how much the possible maximum apparent current density that a given ASSLSC system can endure and how to reveal this potential still require ***,a capacity perturbation strategy aiming to better measure the possible maximum j_(Ac)^(a)is proposed for the first *** garnet-based plane-surface structure ASSLSCs as an exemplification,the j_(Ac)^(a)is quite small when the capacity is dramatically *** a perturbed capacity of 0.001 mA h cm^(-2),the j_(Ac)^(a)is determined to be as high as 2.35 mA cm^(-2)at room *** investigation demonstrates that the capacity perturbation strategy is a feasible strategy for measuring the possible maximum j_(Ac)^(a)of li/solid electrolyte interface,and hopefully provides good references to explore the critical current density of other types of electrochemical systems.

Analysis of Mitochondrial DNA from the Ancient Tombs of Turfan

MtDNA was successfully extracted from ten individual bones (femurs) in the tombs of ancient Jushi in Turfan basin, dated back to the year about 3 000-2 500 years ago. By means of four overlapping primers, we got nucleotide sequence of the 218bp length. Ancient mtDNA was analyzed by the sequencing of hypervariable region Ⅰ of the mtDNA control region. The result shows that 9 haplotypes with 24 polymorphic sites were obtained. The phylogenetic analysis indicated that Mongolians and Altai are the population genetically closest to the Jushi groups and Jushi mtDNA pool being an admixture of eastern Asian and European lineages. So our preliminary data imply that an ancient mingling of Euro-Asian population had existed in Turfan basin prior to the early Iron Age.

Spatial Genetic Structure of Two HIV-I-resistant Polymorphisms (CCR2-64 Ⅰ and SDF1-3’A) Alleles in Population of Shandong Province, China

To explore the spatial genetic structure of two HIV-Ⅰ-resistant polymorphisms （CCR2-64 Ⅰ and SDF1-3＇A） alleles in the population of Shandong Province, China. Methods Using the techniques of spatial stratified sampling and spatial statistics, the spatial genetic structure of the locus （CCR2-64 Ⅰ and SDF1-3＇A）, which was shown to be important co-receptor for HIV infection, was quantified from the populations of 36 sampled counties of Shandong Province, and a total of 3147 and 3172 samples were taken for testing CCR2-64Ⅰ and SDF1-3＇A respectively from individuals without known history of HIV-Ⅰ infection and AIDS symptoms. Results There were significantly spatial genetic structures of the two alleles at different spatial distance classes on the scale of populations, but on the scale of individuals, no spatial structure was found in either the whole area of Shandong Province or the area of each sampled county. Although the change of frequencies of the two alleles with geographic locations in Shandong Province both showed gradual increase trends, their changing directions were inverse. The frequency of CCR2-64Ⅰallele gradually increased from the southwest to the northeast, while the frequency of SDF1-3＇A allele gradually increased from the northeast to the southwest. However the RH to AIDS of combined types of their different genotypes did not represent obvious geographic diversity on the whole area of the Province. Conclusion The frequency of allele usually has some spatial genetic structures or spatial autocorrelation with different spatial distance classes, but the genotypes of individuals have random distribution in the same geographic area. Evaluating spatial distribution of the genetic susceptibility of HIV （AIDS） to CCR2-64Ⅰand SDF1-3＇A alleles, should focus on the frequencies of combined genotypes of CCR2 and SDFI based on the two-locus genotypes of each individual rather than the frequencies of CCR2-641 and SDF1-3＇A alleles.

Association between ventricular repolarization variables and cardiac diastolic function: A cross-sectional study of a healthy Chinese population

BACKGROUND Diastolic electromechanical couple, a well-described phenomenon in symptomatic heart failure, has not been well studied in healthy people. We hypothesized that ventricular repolarization variables, such as the QT interval,Tpeak-to-Tend(Tpe) interval and Tpe/QT ratio, are associated with cardiac diastolic function in the healthy Chinese *** To assess the relationship between ventricular repolarization variables and cardiac diastolic function in apparently healthy Chinese *** This was a community-based cross-sectional study conducted in Shenyang,China. A total of 414 healthy subjects aged 35-91 years were enrolled. All subjects underwent standard 12-lead electrocardiography(ECG) and comprehensive echocardiography. ECG enabled the measurement of QT and Tpe intervals and Tpe/QT ratio. echocardiographic parameters, such as the ratio of mitral early diastolic inflow velocity(E) and late diastolic inflow velocity(A), E-wave deceleration time, left atrial volume(LAV) and LAV index, were measured to assess diastolic function. E/A lic function. ECG and echocardiography results were analyzed separately and in a blinded fashion. Correlation and regression analyses were applied to determine *** Ventricular repolarization variables, such as the QTc interval(393.59 ± 26.74 vs403.86 ± 33.56; P lic function group and the reduced diastolic function group. Competitive Complexation of Copper and Zinc by Sequentially Extracted Humic Substances from Manure Compost

Chicken manure with similar content of copper and zinc was changes of organic carbon and humus substance complexed chosen to conduct a composting experiment to investigate the copper （HS-Cu） and zinc （HS-Zn）, which were extracted by water （H2O）, sodium hydroxide （NaOH）, and sodium pyrophate-NaOH mixture （Na4P2O7-NaOH）, sequentially. Distributions of copper and zinc in fulvic acids （FA） and humic acids （HA） in the three extracts were studied. During manure composting, the concentrations of copper and zinc increased from about 500 mg kg^-1 in the raw material to 1 100 mg kg^-1 in the final products. HS-Cu in H2O, NaOH, and Na4P2O7-NaOH extracts occupied 6.7, 26.7, and 19% averagely of total copper and HS-Zn represented 2.7, 13.7, and 17% averagely of total zinc in compost, respectively. In water extracts, both HA and FA mainly complexed with Cu and the mole ratio of Cu to Zn was 2.8 in HA fractions and was 2.6 in FA fractions, respectively. HA mainly complexed with copper, so that the ratios of HA-Cu to HA-Zn averaged 3.4 in NaOH extracts. FA had a similar potential to complex with copper and zinc, so that the ratio of FA-Cu to FA-Zn was close to 1. In Na4P2O7-NaOH extracts, HA or FA had a similar potential to complex with copper and zinc. The ratio of HS-Cu to HS-Zn was close to 1. With manure composting, Na4P2O7-NaOH extractable HS-Zn increased to a level as high as HS-Cu. This indicated that more and more stable complexes of HS-Zn were formed in the late decomposition period. The competition between copper and zinc to be complexed with humic substance became weaker and weaker with the decomposition process.

Selective excitation of molecular mode in a mixture by femtosecond resonance-enhanced coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering spectroscopy

Femtosecond time-resolved coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering （CARS） spectroscopy is used to investigate gaseous molecular dynamics. Due to the spectrally broad laser pulses, usually poorly resolved spectra result from this broad spectroscopy. However, it can be demonstrated that by the electronic resonance enhancement optimization control a selective excitation of specific vibrational mode is possible. Using an electronically resonance-enhanced effect, iodine molecule specific CARS spectroscopy can be obtained from a mixture of iodine-air at room temperature and a pressure of 1 atm （corresponding to a saturation iodine vapour as low as about 35 Pa）. The dynamics on either the electronically excited state or the ground state of iodine molecules obtained is consistent with previous studies （vacuum, heated and pure iodine） in the femtoseeond time resolved CARS spectroscopy, showing that an effective method of suppressing the non-resonant CARS background and other interferences is demonstrated.
