Reconstruction of High Resolution Timescale in Weinan Loess Section of Late Quaternary

Many late Mesozoic lamprophyre dykes occur in the Taihang Mountains(north china).These lamprophyres are rich in large ion lithophile elements(***,Sr,ba,and K.) and light REE,and have highly differentiated REE *** show large but regular variations in chemical and Nd-Sr isotopic *** these suggest that the lamprophyres were produced from differentiation of a parental magma,coupled with contamination by lower *** parental magma was derived from melting of a long-term enriched sub-continental lithospheric mantle source as is indicated by the highly enriched isotopic signatures of the *** enrichment in the area was probably produced by interaction of volatile-rich melts released from the asthenosphere with the above lithosphere in middle Proterozoic times.

Seven samples of loess and paleosol collected from the major stratigraphic boundaries of the strata of the Weinan section, Shaanxi Province, are dated using the fine-grained TL *** on the TL results and previously ages-published from this section, the polynomial fitting methods are applied to the development of the high resolution time scale for the Weinan loess section in the late Quaternary. According to this time scale, the ages of S0/L1, L1-1/L1-2, L1-4/L1-5, L1/S1 and S1/L2 stratigraphic boundary of Weinan section are 1. 1, 2. 5, 5. 1,7. 6 and 12. 8 ka b. P., which, with exception of the maximum difference between the ages of L1-4/ L1-5 and the ages of 3/4 stage boundary of the deep-sea oxygen isotopes, are generally consistent with the ages of 1/2, 2/3, 4/5 and 5/6 stage boundary of the deep-sea oxygen isotopes in the SPECMAP curve.

The Kunyang rift lying on the western margin of the Yangtze platform is a rare Precambrian Fe-Cu mineralization zone. WudingLufeng basin that is an important part of the zone is located on the west edge in the middle of the rift. The most important ore-hosting rocks are Mesoproterozoic dolomite rocks in the basin controlled by a ring fracture system, which is a fundamental structure of the basin. Plenty of silicate minerals and acicular apatite, feldspar phenocrysts and small vesicular, flown line and flown plane structures, melt inclusion and high temperature fluid inclusion found in most ore-hosting dolomites suggest that this kind of rocks could not be sedimentary dolomite, marble or hydrothermal carbonate rocks. The Zr/Hf and Nb/Ta values of the rocks are identical with those of associated mantle-derived rocks, and vary widely. For the monomineral dolomite, d18OSMOW‰ = +5.99 to +18.4 and d13CPDb‰ = à3.01 to +0.94, which fall within the range for all carbonatitic volcanic rocks of the world. As for the accessory minerals, the values of d18OSMOW‰ of magnetite (=+3.47 to +5.99‰) are close to that of the mantle (bearing dolomite rocks, eNd = +0.19 to +2.27, and the calculated ISr = 0.699143, while for the associated mantle-derived rocks, eNd = +3.18 to +3.72. All the data suggest that the mineral assemblage is not only igneous but also of metasomatic mantle origin. And the presence of acicular apatite indicates that the rocks were formed by magma rapidly cooling. And the phenocryst texture and vesicular, flown and ropy and pyroclastic structures suggest that the igneous rocks were extrusive. Therefore, the ore-bearing dolomite rocks are carbonatitic volcanic rocks. This conclusion implies that most iron and copper ore deposits hosted in the dolomite rocks should be of the carbonatite type.

Using a compilation of 6980 heat flow measurements, we produce a new heat flow map for the chinese continent and its adjacent areas. We develop an objective and integrated method to interpolate the heat flow data, taking into account both the uniformity within geological units and coherency of regional heat flow. The geologic units are outlined based on Zhang et al.’s active tectonic block model. Our heat flow model is presented in two formats: a contour map and a heat flow dataset with values on a 1×1° grid for the chinese continent and its adjacent areas, reflecting detailed variations in some regions. Also provided is a resolution map which helps understand the reliability of the heat flow model. Our results reveal that (1) Heat flows in the eastern part of the chinese continent are relatively higher than those in the western part except that in the Tibetan Plateau area. (2) Heat flows in the Ordos and North china blocks are around 60 mW/m2, and are 50–55 mW/m2 in South china except for the continental marginal sea regions. (3) Heat flow is the lowest in the Junggar basin, only 35–45 mW/m2, and is 45–55 mW/m2 in the Tarim basin. The results of this study provide an important data- set for studies on thermal and rheological structures of the chinese continent and its adjacent areas.

The studies of uplift and glaciations of the Tibetan Plateau are summarized, and a series of recent case studies of the endemic species based on DNA sequences are detailed. In general, these molecular data show that all the organisms originated from Early Pliocene to Late Miocene, and then multi-stages of divergence/speciation occurred within each taxa following their original occupation on the plateau, mainly as a result of periodic glacial cycles and geographic isolation. The regional fauna may have undergone several range contractions and expansions during the Pleistocene glaciations. However, the population expansion and refugia may vary in space, time, and extent. The regional fauna of the Tibetan Plateau may be combinations of ancient movement from adjacent zoogeographical regions, speciation in situ, and postglacial colonization from adjacent areas. Geomorphic and climatic changes on the plateau definitely have a remarkable influence on the regional and adjacent biogeographic patterns, and the mechanism is very complex.

Partial DNA sequences of cytochrome b gene (mtDNA) were successfully retrieved from Late Pleistocene fossil bone of Mammuthus primigenius collected from the Xiguitu County ( Yakeshi), Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and from Zhaodong, Harbin of Heilongjiang Province in northern china. Two ancient DNA fragments (109 bp and 124 bp) were authenticated by reproducible experiments in two different laboratories and by phylogenetic analysis with other Elephantidae taxa. Phylogenetic analysis using these sequences and published data in either separate or combined datasets indicate unstable relationship among the woolly mammoth and the two living elephants, Elephas and Loxodonta . In addition to the short sequences used to attempt the long independent evolution of Elephantidae terminal taxa, we suggest that a high intra-specific diversity existed in Mammuthus primigenius crossing both spatial and temporal ranges, resulting in a complex and divergent genetic background for DNA sequences so far recovered. The high genetic diversity in the extinct woolly mammoth can explain the apparent instability of Elephantidae taxa on the molecular phylogenetic trees and can reconcile the apparent paradox regarding the unresolved Elephantidae trichotomy.

The western Tianshan high-pressure metamorphic rocks occur within the greenschist facies country rocks as small discrete blocks, lenses, bands, laminae or intercalated slabs. The protoliths of blueschists and eclogites include N-MORb, E-MORb, OIb, gabbro, basic volcanidastic rock, greywacke and other rock types. Metamorphic assemblages and geochemical dais of major, trace and rare earth elements indicate that the high-pressure rocks were formed within a b-type subduction zone along the north margin of the Early Paleozoic South Tianshan Ocean between the Tarim and the Yili-Central Tianshan plates.

based on the geological background and Gammacerane/C31H(S + R) ratios, source rock depositional environments of the studied oil samples (194) from 13 oilfields were classified into three groups according to salinity:saline-lacustrine facies, fresh to brackish lacustrine facies (including limnetic facies), and semi-saline to saline facies (including marine facies of the Tarim basin).C5-C13 compound groups in the crude oils were separated by GC, and about 286 compounds were qualitatively *** geochemical application of the C6-C13 compound groups and their ratios between each group with individual carbon number was *** studies show that (1) C6-C13 compound groups and their ratios in the crude oils could serve as new reliable parameters for oil-oil correlation because the C6-C13 light fractions are the major oil component, especially in light oil or condensate, in which they account for almost 90% of the whole oil;(2) the compound groups of C7 light hydrocarbons in oils derived from difierent depositional environments with difierent salinity have difierent characteristics;(3) C6-C13 compound groups and ratios may be afiected by other factors such as maturity, but they are mainly controlled by salinity of depositional waters.

AIM: To investigate the neuroprotective effect of tubuloside b, one of the phenylethanoids isolated from the stems of Cistanche salsa, on tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNFα)-induced apoptosis in SH-SY5Y neuronal cells. METHODS: Cell viability was analyzed using MTT assay. Apoptotic cells were detected using Hoechst33342 staining, and confirmed by DNA fragmentation and flow cytometric analysis. The activity of caspase-3 was measured with special assay kit. The concentration of free intracellular calcium was determined with the probe Indo-1 by spectrometer. The level of intracellular reactive oxygen species and the potential of mitochondrial membrane were determined by laser scanning confocal microscopy (LSCM) combined with fluorescence probe H2DCFDA or JC-1 respectively. RESULTS: SH-SY5Y cells treated with TNFa 100 μg/L for 36 h showed typical morphological changes of apoptosis. DNA ladder could be observed by agarose gel electrophoresis.
