Objectives: To determine prevalence, incidence and risk factors of delirium in hospitalized patients in the infirmary of medical clinic of the Lauro Wanderley University Hospital. Method: An observational cohort study evaluating 140 patients over 18 years between admission and discharge. The survey instrument was the Confusion Assessment Method. Results: The prevalence of delirium was 5.7% (8/140) and the incidence, 2.1%. In patients with delirium were observed alteration of sleep-wake cycle (6/75%), altered level of consciousness (6/75%), disorganized thinking (5/62, 5%) and psychomotor retardation (5/62 5%). There was a significant association of delirium and age, mechanical restraint in bed, prior history of cognitive impairment, auditory and visual sensory deficit, psychiatric hospitalization, poor health status and mortality. Conclusions: The prevalence of delirium at admission was lower than that found in other studies, but it was a predictor factor of hospital mortality.

东日长铁路客运公司成立伊始,从原国铁继承了近800辆内燃动车,其中有500多辆的柴油机是30年前的老产品。为了减少维修,提高运输效率,决定实施换装新柴油机的计划。三种新机型的耐久试验表明,在运行到20万km时,磨耗轻微,性能与交付时不相上下,预期可大大延长维修间隔,降低维修费用。装车运行试验也氧明,动车的运用率、运行速度及燃油费等都分别有了较大幅度的提高和改善。

Objective: To investigate cross-cultural differences in self-assessments of eating behaviors of female university students who bear responsibility for their own eating behaviors and who will, in the future, likely determine a family’s eating style. Design: A cross-cultural comparison. Setting: Japan, South Korea, and Austria. Subjects: Female university students from Japan (n = 276), Korea (n = 103), and Austria (n = 127). The survey comprised a questionnaire containing ten sections about eating behaviors (eating habits, regular meal times, and frequency of food intake) and eating attitudes. Results: Eating behaviors and attitudes differed significantly among the three cultures. Japanese students practiced healthier eating behaviors than did Korean and Austrian students, on the basis of their variety of food intake and regular consumption of three meals, but rated themselves lower on healthy eating behaviors. Austrian students tended to have more independent attitudes toward eating and food preparation (e.g., “I want to eat only my favorite dishes”) than Japanese or Korean students. Conclusions: Effects of cultural differences in psychological processes, such as self-cognition, emotion, motivation, and values, on self-assessment of eating behaviors is suggested.

Reviewed are the present status and future prospects of the laser fusionresearch at the ILE Osaka. The Gekko XII and Peta Watt laser system have been operated forinvestigating the implosion hydrodynamics, fast ignition, and the relativistic laser plasmainteractions and so on. In particular, the fast ignition experiments with cone shell target havebeen in progress as the UK and US-Japan collaboration programs. In the experiments, the implodedhigh density plasmas are heated by irradiating 500 J level peta-watt laser pulse. The thermalneutron yield is found to increase by three orders of magnitude by injecting the peta-watt laserinto the cone shell target. The Rayleigh-Taylor instability experiment results are also reviewed isthis paper.

Background: Oral potentially malignant disorders, which include oral lichen planus (OLP), are clinical presentations that carry a risk of development to cancer in the oral cavity. Oral lichenoid lesions (OLLs) are also termed interface/lichenoid mucositis. Malignant transformation of them remains controversial, but distinct clinical and histological criteria for how to differentiate OLP from OLLs have not been developed. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to elucidate findings that can allow histopathological differentiation of OLP and OLLs using histomorphological and immunohistochemical analyses. Materials and Methods: Analyses were performed in 10 cases diagnosed with OLP and 9 cases diagnosed with OLLs. Cytokeratin 19 (CK19), Ki-67 and CD3 were used as primary antibodies to detect basal cells, proliferative activity and T-cell distribution, respectively, and Perlecan and COX-2 to evaluate epithelial intracellular arrangements and interstitial distributions of proteoglycans and enzymes. Results: For CK19, positive cells were significantly found in OLLs at both the prominent area and site adjacent to the lesion comparison with those of OLP’s. The number of COX-2 positive cells was significantly higher in spinous and basal layers in OLLs of the prominent area. Additionally, OLLs showed mild to moderate expression for perlecan in the basal to spinous layers and in subepithelial tissue. Conclusion:

Physical Properties in Aqueous Solutions for a Series of Alkyltrimethylammonium Salicylates (C12TA-Sal through C16TA-Sal): From a View Point of Drag Reduction

Compounds for a series of alkyltrimethylammonium salicylates (C12TA-Sal through C16TA-Sal) were synthesized. Their physical properties in aqueous solutions were investigated by conductometry, viscometry, vortex inhibition, viscoelastic recoil and swirling decay time from a view point of drag reduction. For critical micelle concentrations (CMC) obtained for a series of compounds by conductometry, it was found that a linear relation of the form, log(CMC)= 4.088﹣0.305*Nc (Nc: carbon number in the alkyl chain), holds. From the viscosity measurement, all the compounds showed viscosity increase above their CMC. Vortex inhibition was observed above the CMC for the compounds with the chain length longer than C13. Viscoelastic recoil was observed above the concentration of one and a half times the CMC for the compounds with alkyl chain length longer than C14.

AIM:To clarify the correlation with phenotypic expression,clinicopathological features,genetic alteration and microsatellite-instability status in small intestinal adenocarcinoma(SIA).METHODS:The cases of 47 patients diagnosed with primary SIAs that were surgically resected at our institution in 1975-2005 were *** reviewed clinicopathological findings(age,gender,tumor size,gross appearance,histological morphologic type,invasion depth,lymphatic permeation,venous invasion,and lymph node metastasis),and the immunohistochemical expression of MUC5 AC,MUC6,MUC2,CD10,and mismatch-repair(MMR) proteins(MLH1 and MSH2).We analyzed KRAS and BRAF gene mutations,and the microsatellite instability(MSI) *** immunohistochemical staining of CD10,MUC2,MUC5 AC and MUC6 was considered positive when distinct staining in > 5% of the adenocarcinoma cells was *** evaluate of MMR protein expression,we used adjacent normal tissue including lymphoid follicles,inflammatory cells,and stromal cells as an internal positive *** without nuclear staining in the tumor cells were considered to have lost the expression of the respective MMR ***:There were 29 males and 18 females patients(mean age 59.9 years,range:23-87 years).Tumors were located in the duodenum in 14 cases(30%),the jejunum in 21 cases(45%),and the ileumin 12 cases(25%).A phenotypic expression analysis revealed 20 MUC2-positive tumors(42.6%),11 MUC5AC-positive(23.4%),4 MUC6-positive(8.5%),and 7 CD10-positive(14.9%).The tumor sizes of the MUC2(+) tumors were significantly larger than those of the MUC2(-) tumors(mean,5.7 ± 1.4 cm vs 4.7 ± 2.1 cm,P < 0.05).All three tumors with adenomatous component were positive for MUC2(P < 0.05).Polypoid appearance was seen significantly more frequently in the CD10(+) group than in the CD10(-) group(P < 0.05).The tumor size was significantly larger in the CD10(+) group than in the CD10(-) group(mean,5.9 ± 1.4 cm vs 5.0 ± 2.1 cm,P < 0.05).Of 34 SIAs with succ
