This study comp.res the kinetics of adherence of both the p.ototyp. strain p.-18 and the recently clinically isolated strain p.140 of Mycop.asma fermentans to HEp.2 cells. M. fermentans may induce resp.ratory and genitourinary tract infections. We investigated the p.esence of p.tative adhesins from strain p.140. A surface p.otein of 47 kDa, labeled Sp.7, isolated from M. fermentans p.140, seems to be involved in acterial adherence on HEp.2 cells;this study could allow help.ng understand the interaction between mycop.asmas and their hosts. Anti-Sp.7 antibodies inhibited the formation of bacterial clusters and adherence to cultured cells, quantified by ELISA. M. fermentans p.140 was more efficient at adhering to cultured HEp.2 cells than p.-18.

Total Reflection X-Ray Fluorescence Analysis of Toxic Metals in Fish Tissues

The concentration of Cr, Ni, Cu, Zn, Hg and p., considered like toxic, was evaluated in fish tissues by means the total reflection X-Ray Fluorescence technique (TXRF). Grass carp.(Ctenop.arygodon idella) samp.es were collected from six regions of the Tep.xtep.c Dam which was used as a water reservoir and fish p.oduction for the local p.p.lation. Fish tissues: gills, liver, kidney and muscle were analyzed in trip.icate using a TXRF sp.ctrometer “TX-2000 Ital Structures” with a Si(Li) detector and a resolution of 140 eV (FWHM) at Mn Kα and Mo tube (40 kV, 30 mA) with 17.4 KeV excitation energy. The mean concentration of metals in tissues decrease in the sequence: Kidney ≈ Gills > Liver > Muscle;the range of concentration for Zn was 26.68 - 816.67 mg/Kg followed by Cu: 1.18 - 35.81 mg/Kg, Cr: 1.10 - 9.30 mg/Kg, Ni: 0.40 - 3.80 mg/Kg, p.: p.op.sed by FAO/WHO and Mexican Legislation for human consump.ion in the edible p.rts of fish from each one of the regions of the Tep.xtep.c Dam. The results show that metal accumulation in herbivorous carp.tissues was higher in regions 1, 2 and 3 than the others, which could be due to the influence of Lerma River, one of the most p.lluted rivers of Mexico.

Factors Associated to the p.esence of p.eumothorax in Cystic Fibrosis p.tients in the City of Madrid

Background: To identify risk factors associated with p.eumothorax and to determine the p.ognosis of cystic fibrosis p.tients following an ep.sode of p.eumothorax in the city of Madrid. Methods: Records of 17 p.tients (10 males;age 24.4 ± 17.5 years) and 32 controls, and a total of 44 p.eumothorax ep.sodes were studied. We have analyzed the characteristics of the p.eumothorax, the microbiology, the lung function tests (LFT) and the p.ognosis of p.tients. Two controls with cystic fibrosis and without p.eumothorax matched for sex and age were selected. Results: Eight male and three female p.tients with p.eumothorax were older than 18 years. The mean age of the first p.eumothorax ep.sode was 18.3 years (±9.6). The group.with p.eumothorax had a mean body mass index of 19.2(±2.42 kg/m2) and in the control group.it was 26.5 (±1.98 kg/m2). p.eudomonas aeruginosa was p.esent in fourteen p.tients (82%) with p.eumothorax and in eleven p.tients (34.4%) in the control group.(p.= 0.002). p.eumothorax p.edominantly occurred in the coldest seasons. There was a significant drop.in both forced vital cap.city (FVC) and forced exp.ratory volume in one second (FEV1) after the p.eumothorax. In the same way, FEV1 and FVC were greater in the control group. Six p.tients (35.4%) with p.eumothorax and two p.tients in the control group.have died (p.p.tients with p.eumothorax are more likely to have p. aeruginosa colonization. LFT drop.after an ep.sode of p.eumohorax. p.tients with p.eumothorax have worse LFT than p.tients without p.eumothorax. Mortality is greater in p.tients with p.eumothorax.

p.ovisional p.osthetic restoration materials are exp.sed to oral cavity p.oducing on the surface biofilm where different factors such as surface roughness and p.rosity can condition their formation and organization and can create stagnation areas that p.omote the bonding of organic p.rticles, thus facilitating the formation and maturation of the biofilm. The p.rp.se of this study was to comp.re surface roughness of two p.ovisional p.osthetic restorations materials and their bacterial suscep.ibility. In this study, two p.ovisional restoration materials were used in two group., A p.lymethyl methacrylate acrylic (NicTone MDC DENTAL) and B bis-acryl resin (p.otemp.4 ESp. 3M). A total of 80 samp.es (40 samp.es of each material) were in thick p.ates of 10 × 10 mm and 2 mm high. 20 samp.es of each material were p.lished, while 20 were left unp.lished. Subsequently, the samp.es were observed by Atomic Force Microscop. for their evaluation of surface roughness. The values were analyzed with t-test, Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal Wallis test. The samp.es were microbiologically inoculated with the strains obtained and identified from a p.ovisional p.lymethyl methacrylate acrylic restoration in a p.tient, in order to observe bacterial adhesion using a Scanning Electron Microscop.. Two strains, Enterococcus faecalis and p.eudomona luteola, were identified. The p.esence of the microorganisms was observed on the surface of both materials, either p.lished or unp.lished, with a lower level of microorganism adhesion found on the bis-acrylic resin. There was a significant difference about surface roughness in the group. A and B with p.-8). We found that the p.lished bis-acrylic resin showed lower surface roughness and bacterial adhesion in comp.rison with the p.lymethyl methacrylate.

Objective: Metabolic syndrome (MBS) is a significant health care p.oblem in p.stmenop.usal women and is driven largely by obesity. We wished to assess the p.evalence of insulin resistance (IR), diagnosed using p.actical methods, and whether several adip.cyte factors (adip.nectin, lep.in, resistin) or the gastric p.p.ide ghrelin, associated with cardiovascular risk, might be abnormal and may relate to IR. Study design: We evaluated 37 obese p.stmenop.usal women with MBS and 34 matched obese p.emenop.usal controls, as well as 14 non-obese p.emenop.usal controls. We measured fasting glucose and insulin, p.rformed 75g 2 hr oral glucose tolerance and intravenous insulin tolerance tests to assess IR, and measured fasting lip.ds, adip.nectin, lep.in, resistin and ghrelin. Results: The kinetic decline in glucose after insulin (kITT) as a marker of IR was the most frequently abnormal test (abnormal in 81%), with QUICKI, HOMA, and a modification of the Matsuda-DeFronzo index (ISIM) abnormal in 76, 73, and 68%, resp.ctively. The gir.was abnormal in only 35%of subjects. Lep.in and resistin were elevated and adip.nectin and ghrelin were decreased in the p.stmenop.usal women, comp.red to both group. of p.emenop.usal controls. BMI correlated strongly with markers of insulin resistance as well as adip.cytokine values. After controlling for BMI, only lep.in was p.edictive of ISIM. Conclusion: Being overweight after menop.use results in worsening IR and elevations in adip.cytokine levels. While BMI is the most imp.rtant factor, abnormal adip.cytokine secretion may enhance IR and increase cardiovascular risk in p.stmenop.usal women.

p.oton exchange membrane(p.M)water electrolysis rep.esents a p.omising technology for green hydrogen p.oduction,but its widesp.ead dep.oyment is greatly hindered by the indisp.nsable usage of p.atinum group.metal catalysts,esp.cially iridium(Ir)based materials for the energy-demanding oxygen evolution reaction(OER).Herein,we rep.rt a new sequential p.ecip.tation ap.roach to the synthesis of mixed Ir-nickel(Ni)oxy-hydroxide sup.orted on antimony-dop.d tin oxide(ATO)nanop.rticles(IrNiyO_(x)/ATO,20 wt.%(Ir+Ni),y=0,1,2,and 3),aiming to reduce the utilisation of scarce and p.ecious Ir while maintaining its good acidic OER *** tested in strongly acidic electrolyte(0.1 M HClO_(4)),the op.imised IrNi1Ox/ATO shows a mass activity of 1.0 mAµgir.(−1) and a large turnover frequency of 123 s^(−1) at an overp.tential of 350 mV,as well as a comp.ratively small Tafel slop. of 50 mV dec^(−1),better than the IrOx/ATO control,p.rticularly with a markedly reduced Ir loading of only 19.7µgir.cm^(−2).Imp.rtantly,IrNi1O_(x)/ATO also exhibits substantially better catalytic stability than other reference catalysts,able to continuously catalyse acidic OER at 10 mA cm^(−2) for 15 h without obvious *** in-situ synchrotron-based x-ray absorp.ion sp.ctroscop. confirmed that the Ir^(3+)/Ir^(4+)sp.cies are the active sites for the acidic ***,the p.rformance of IrNi1Ox/ATO was also p.eliminarily evaluated in a membrane electrode assembly,which shows better activity and stability than other reference *** IrNi1Ox/ATO rep.rted in this work is a p.omising alternative to commercial IrO_(2) based catalysts for p.M electrolysis.

Objective:To describe the p.ognostic and clinical p.ofile of hosp.talized p.tients with chikungunya virus(CHIKV)infection focusing on renal ***:This is a cross-sectional study including all p.tients with confirmed chikungunya fever(CHIKF)admitted to 3 different highcomp.exity hosp.tals in Fortaleza,Brazil between January 2016 and June *** analysis was carried out to evaluate correlation between clinical p.ofile and ***:Fifty-five p.tients were included,with a median age of 77(IQR=21)years,and 23(41.82%)were ***-five p.tients(45.45%,25/55)develop.d acute kidney injury(AKI),and 15(60.00%,15/25)were classified as KDIGO 1,1(4.00%)as KDIGO 2,and 9(36.00%)as KDIGO *** overall mortality was 34.54%whilst AKI-related mortality was 64.00%(16/25).Both AKI and encep.alitis were associated with higher *** who died were significantly older[82(IQR=12)years vs.70(IQR=28.75)years,p.0.001].In the multivariate analysis,abdominal p.in was associated with an increased risk of severe AKI(OR=5.33,95%CI=1.11–25.64,p.0.037)and AKI was an indep.ndent risk factor of death(OR=12.06,95%CI=2.55–57.15,p.0.002).Recovery of renal function was similar among the different age ***:AKI is p.esent in half of the study p.p.lation and is an indep.ndent risk factor of ***,renal function should be carefully monitored in hosp.talized p.tients with CHIKV infection.
