Introduction: Access to antiretroviral drugs has improved the survival of children infected with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). As they reach adolescence, they are confronted with various constraints related to the infection and its treatment, in addition to those of the growth period they are going through. The main aim of the study was to assess the acceptance and describe the experience of HIV infection by infected adolescents but also to investigate the factors associated with good acceptance and a positive experience. Methodology: The cross-sectional analytic study concerned HIV-infected adolescents aged 15 to 19 followed up at the Chantal Biya Foundation-Mother and Child Centre (CME-FCB) and the Yaoundé University Hospital Centre (CHUY) between February 2020 and June 2020. The study saw participants complete a questionnaire containing socio-demographic data and assessing acceptance and experience with the infection. Data analysis was accomplished using Epi info software version 7.***.2.6. Results: One hundred and thirteen HIV-infected adolescents were included in the study. The sex ratio was 0.68 and the mean age was 17 years. More than half of the adolescents had a good acceptance and positive experience with the infection. Related factors were the adolescent’s perception of good health and participation in an association with other infected adolescents. Conclusion: Emphasizing the psychological and educational follow-up of infected adolescents and encouraging their participation in associations for adolescents living with HIV could reduce the consequences of poor acceptance and ensure a better transition to adulthood. .

Introduction: The occurrence of pregnancy in women is a risky situation. Prenatal care is necessary, which is not often the case in our context. Aim: To analyze the influence of antenatal surveillance on maternal and perinatal prognosis. Patients and Method: Preliminary longitudinal and analytical survey at the Owendo University Hospital (OHU) over 6 months. It focused on prenatal surveillance. The study population consisted of parturients who gave birth within 24 hours and we studied sociodemographic characteristics, variables related to antenatal contact, those of delivery as well as maternal and newborn outcomes. Results: 2485 deliveries were recorded and 1300 patients were retained according to the inclusion criteria. No prenatal contact (ANC0) was performed in 93 (7.15%), insufficient (ANCI) in 943 patients (72.5%), and sufficient (ANCS) in 264 patients (20.30%). Patients with low school level were significantly found when the NPC was not performed or insufficient and the same was true for the group of patients who were not employed and those who were single (p negative impact on maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality.

The Magnetic method is one of the best geophysical techniques used to delineate subsurface structures. This study was conducted to investigate the basement faulting and ore mineralization into the overlying geological cover. The GEOSOFT v8.4 software was used to process the data. Upward continuation of the residual magnetic intensity map at various altitudes and the maxima of their horizontal gradient magnetic were used to highlight faults from shallow to deep, as well as, their dips and mineralization zones. The faults with the directions E-W, ESE-WNW and Ene-WSW are identified confirming the result of [1]. This study also reveals that, the layer is affected by faults propagating from the basement upwards into the cover. Our results added additional information to the knowledge of the geological structure and the mineral resources potential in the study area. Based on the 2D3/4 modeling, the Dja Fault (DF) is revealed and highlighted sub-area marked by a magnetite/or hematite dolerite, schist and sandstone blocks, which show strong magnetization. Specifically, in this area, models are made of BIF (bounded iron formation) and BIQ (bounded iron quartzite) as dominant minerals.

The DJADOM-ETA area is in south-eastern of Cameroon, within the Congo Craton (CC) formations and composed of gneiss and amphibolite, migmatites and intrusive rocks. Few geophysical studies have been carried out over surrounding areas, but no investigation on the study area. The existence of aeromagnetic data covering the study area has motivated the application of a multiscale approach for tectonic features identification. The aim of this work is to interpret Aeromagnetic Data for Geological and Structural Mappings in the southeastern Cameroon. The GIS and GEOSOFT v8.4 softwares are used to treat data of Compagnie Minière du Cameroun getting in February 2012. The Tilt Angle method is used to delineate geological structures and to estimate the depth. The Euler’s Deconvolution method is used to estimate the specific depth of structural contacts. The presence of bifurcations, accompanied by virgations, leading to the occurrence of several faults. Principal lineaments are determined with the main direction being ESE-WNW and E-W for the minor lineaments. The study highlights two major faults: ESE-WNW and Ene-WSW, where the former dominates, what could be called the geological accident of ETA. The Euler’s Correlation and Tilt derivative contact map shows that most of the faults are vertical contacts. The geometrical description of this structure suggests an open synclinal transposed on vertical foliations: the major fault at the DJADOM axis is quasi-parallel to the Northern limit of the CC and parallel to the Sanaga Fault (SF) and the Central Cameroon Shear Zone (CCSZ). The features show a base strongly affected by tectonic which characterizes the transition between the zone from the CC and the belt from folds of the Pan-African. The current study deals with an interpretation of audio-magnetotelluric (AMT) data collected in the Ayos/Nguelemendouka area, using a Stratagem EH4 unit. The study’s objective is to provide a better understanding of the area’s subsurface structure. Thus, AMT soundings were realised through seven profiles ne30° oriented, each profile made up of four stations. Data modelling highlights a SW-ne tectonic unevenness which seems to correlate with the Centre Cameroon Shear Zone. Moreover, this interpretation put into evidence an uplift of the basement at Lamba 2, a tabular structure at depth and an absence of discontinuities beneath 300 mdepth.

Rubella Immunity among Pregnant Women in Bangui, Central African Republic

Sero-positivity rates of the rubella virus among pregnant women vary from country to country widely throughout the world. In the Central African Republic, rubella vaccination is not included in the national immunization schedule. Thus, we propose to evaluate the immune status of pregnant women. This was an analytical retrospective study that consulted the records of pregnant women received in prenatal consultations at the Bangui Community Hospital maternity ward from January to December 2020. Socio-demographic and laboratory data (IgM, IgG) were collected from January to June 2021. Chi2 test was used. A total of 289 pregnant women were analyzed. Women with an IgM+ response accounted for 4.15%. Those with an IgG+ were 14.87%. The distribution by age group shows that patients aged 20 - 24 and those aged 25 - 29 had a rubella profile suggesting persistent infection (p = 0.010). The average age of women included was 28 (±6) years. The average parity for the entire sample was 2.18 (1.93). At any age pregnant women were not significantly exposed to rubella infection (p = 0.96), (ORbrut = 1.03;CI95% = [0.32 - 3.34]). Both immunized and non-immunized individuals are similarly exposed [OR = 0.86;95% IC95% = 0.44 - 1.68] with no difference (p = 0.96). Rubella infection remains particularly severe when it occurs during pregnancy. It would be wise to seek immunity in all girls of childbearing age in order to rule out any risk of rubella embryopathy.

Background: Type 2 diabetes is a metabolic disease characterized by chronic hyperglycemia. The latter plays an essential role in inflammation by stimulating the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines or by increasing their secretion by an oxidative mechanism. These cytokines control the hepatic synthesis of an inflammatory protein called C-Reactive Protein (CRP). High or average values of CRP would have a predictive value of cardiovascular diseases and type 2 diabetes. The relationship between low CRP values and the risk of developing type 2 diabetes and its cardiovascular complications is not sufficiently studied. The hsCRP could serve as a predictive biomarker of risk of onset, follow-up and prognosis for type 2 diabetes and its cardiovascular complications. To answer this problem, we conducted this study, the aim of which was to study the predictive role of hsCRP in the risk of occurrence of type 2 diabetes and its cardiovascular complications. Materials and Methods: This is a prospective and cross-sectional case-control study involving 200 participants including 100 control women and 100 women with type 2 diabetes (mean age was respectively 49.89 years ± 8.26 & 51.92 years ± 7.18;p = 0.066). The interviews were conducted on the basis of a questionnaire. Physical examination collected biometric data and cardiovascular constants. The biochemical parameters such as hsCRP were analyzed by an automated Abbott device. Results: We noted that hsCRP was significantly higher in type 2 diabetic subjects compared to control subjects (p (rho = 0.40, p systolic blood pressure (rho = 0.30, p = 0.003), diastolic blood pressure (rho = 0.28, p = 0.006), total body fat (rho = 0.48, p Conclusion: hsCRP has a prognostic value in the evaluation of cardiovascular risk. Management of Maxillofacial Gunshot Trauma in the Stomatology and Maxillofacial Surgery Departments of Ouagadougou

Introduction: Maxillofacial ballistic trauma is a serious injury that is difficult to manage, with significant complications and after-effects. The authors report their experience in managing this type of trauma in the context of insecurity linked to terrorism. Patients and Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study with retrospective data collection covering the period from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2022 in the stomatology and maxillofacial surgery departments of the university hospitals of Ouagadougou. Results: In 5 years, 52 patients were collected, i.e. 10.4 cases per year. The mean age of the patients was 31.46 ± 15.41 years, and the sex ratio was 3. In 67.31% of patients, these injuries were the result of shootings during terrorist attacks. The jugal (36.54%) and chin (32.69%) regions were the most affected. The mandible (36.54%) and zygomatic bones (28.85%) were the most injured bones in these traumas. All patients underwent surgical treatment, and 25% suffered secondary complications. All patients retained at least one sequela. Conclusion: Maxillofacial injuries caused by ballistic trauma are true emergencies that can be life-threatening and functionally disabling. Their management is delicate and the outcome is uncertain, hence, the prevention is important.
