Interferon-gamma(IFN-γ)plays a dual role in cancer;it is both a pro-and an antitumorigenic cytokine,depending on the type of *** deregulation of the IFN-γcanonic pathway is associated with several disorders,including vulner-ability to viral infections,inflammation,and cancer *** particular,the interplay between lung adenocarcinoma(LUAD)and viral infections appears to exist in association with the deregulation of IFN-γ*** this mini-review,we investigated the status of the IFN-γsignaling pathway and the expression level of its components in ***,a reduction in IFNGR1 expression seems to be associated with LUAD progression,affecting defenses against viruses such as severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus *** addition,alterations in the expression of IFNGR1 may inhibit the antiproliferative action of IFN-γsignaling in LUAD.

为促进优质天然富硒植物资源的科学开发利用,本文选取富硒金花葵为研究对象,采用氢化物发生-原子荧光光谱法(Hydride Generation-Atomic Fluorescence Spectrometry,HG-AFS)检测不同植物器官样品中的硒含量,超声波辅助乙醇提取金花葵花朵中的含硒有机活性组分并使用响应面法优化获得最佳提取工艺,同时对含硒提取物开展抗氧化活性研究。结果显示,金花葵各器官中硒含量从高到低依次为叶、果、花、根和茎,分别为21.99、14.29、12.93、10.90和10.23 mg/kg。响应面优化结果表明,含硒有机活性成分最佳提取参数为提取温度40℃、固液比1:60、提取时间40 min、超声功率350 W、乙醇浓度50%(V/V)和提取次数1次。在最佳提取参数下,硒的提取率为35.65%±0.65%。DPPH抗氧化活性测定结果显示,含硒有机活性成分的半抑制浓度(IC_(50))为0.048 mg/mL(硒元素浓度为0.79μg/mL),羟基自由基清除实验显示样品浓度为8 mg/mL时达到最大清除率97%,IC_(50)为0.56 mg/mL,还原力实验表明样品的还原能力随样品浓度的增大而增强。证明金花葵的含硒乙醇提取物具有良好的抗氧化能力。本研究可以为合理利用富硒金花葵和研发加工富硒农副作物提供一些理论依据。

The Cap Pushing Response (CPR) is a free-flying technique used to study learning and memory in honey bees (Apis mellifera). The series of experiments outlined in this paper aimed to test whether honey bees exhibit the cognitive concept of “expectancy” utilizing the CPR in a weight differentiation paradigm. Five previous experiments in our laboratory have explored whether the concept of expectancy can account for honey bee performance and have all failed to support the cognitive interpretation. The first experiment examined if bees could differentiate between the two caps in the amount of force they used to push the cap and the distance the cap was pushed when the caps were presented one at a time. The second experiment explored cap weight preference by presenting bees with a choice between the two caps. The third and fourth experiments tested the bee’s ability to expect reward or punishment based on cap weight. Results revealed that bees were found to have a strong preference for the light cap and therefore were not able to expect reward or punishment based on cap weight. These experiments contribute to the debate on whether bees have “cognitive” representations and continue to support the behaviorist interpretation.

Smoking is a major environmental factor that interferes in the establishment and clinical course of ulcerative colitis (UC). Firstly, the risk of smoking status impact in the development of UC is reviewed, showing that current smoking has a protective association with UC. Similarly, being a former smoker is associated with an increased risk of UC. The concept that smoking could have a role in determining the inflammatory bowel disease phenotype is also discussed. Gender may also be considered, as current smoking delays disease onset in men but not in women. No clear conclusions can be driven from the studies trying to clarify whether childhood passive smoking or prenatal smoke exposure have an influence on the development of UC, mainly due to methodology flaws. The influence of smoking on disease course is the second aspect analysed. Some studies show a disease course more benign in smokers that in non-smokers, with lower hospitalizations rates, less flare-ups, lower use of oral steroids and even less risk of proximal extension. This is not verified by some other studies. Similarly, the rate of colectomy does not seem to be determined by the smoking status of the patient. The third issue reviewed is the use of nicotine as a therapeutic agent. The place of nicotine in the treatment of UC is unclear, although it could be useful in selected cases, particularly in recent ex-smokers with moderate but refractory attacks of UC. Finally, the effect of smoking cessation in UC patients is summarised. Given that smoking represents a major worldwide cause of death, for inpatients with UC the risks of smoking far outweigh any possible benefit. Thus, physicians should advise, encourage and assist UC patients who smoke to quit.

Empowering Rice Farmers in Nueva Ecija, Philippines: A Strategic Approach to Boosting Income through Special Purpose Rice Production

Low income is the main problem of millions of farmers who are cultivating 4.81 million hectares in the Philippines. This problem is attributed to challenges specifically low yield, low quality of produce, and significant post-harvest losses, particularly in a resource-scarce setting. This study aimed to help increase the farmers’ income in selected towns of Nueva Ecija through the promotion and use of special purpose rice production technology. Twenty (20) farmer-cooperators in three towns of Nueva Ecija were selected to demonstrate the production technology covering a total area of 4.75 hectares during the dry season, and 3.3 hectares during the wet season, both in 2023. Extension modalities such as training, techno-demo establishment, information material and technical assistance provision, and market linkage were undertaken to enhance their knowledge, attitude, and skills on special rice production and enterprise. The study utilized the descriptive quantitative method wherein the data were gathered through surveys, specifically personal interviews. Results showed that 70% of the farmer-cooperators were male and 60% were living below the poverty threshold. The farmers were 53 years old on average and engaged in farming as their primary source of income. The average yield of special purpose rice particularly the CLS-2 variety was higher (6.46 MT/ha and 6.22 MT/ha during dry and wet seasons, respectively) than that of inbred or non-special rice. The income per hectare from special purpose rice production per hectare was Php 75,420.00, which is higher than that of regular rice at Php 29,389.00, giving a higher benefit of Php 46,031.00. The technology adopters and area planted increased (from 6 to 9 and from 1.4 hectares to 2.75 hectares, respectively) in Licab, Nueva Ecija. The opposite was true in Sto. Domingo and Guimba, Nueva Ecija where farmers were discouraged by the marketing issues that arose.

The finding that adult neurogenesis occurs constitutively in the brain was a breakthrough in neuroscience and soon gained attention as a possible mechanism for neurorepair after brain damage. In a recent study we show that the dentate gyrus （DG） reorganizes anatomically over neurons undergo maturation time after damage, while new and activate in response to a contextual fear memory recall （Aguilar-Arredondo and zepeda, 2018）. These findings provide new evidence on the possible role of neurogenesis in cognitive recovery after brain injury.

The Semantic Web seems finally close to maintaining its promise about a real world-wide graph of interconnected resources. The SPARQL query language and protocols and the Linked Open Data initiative have laid the way for endless data endpoints sparse around the globe. However, for the Semantic Web to really happen, it does not suffice to get billions of triples out there： these must be shareable, interlinked and conform to widely accepted vocabularies. While more and more data are converted from already available large knowledge repositories of companies and organizations, the question whether these should be carefully converted to semantically consistent ontology vocabularies or find other shallow representations for their content naturally arises. The danger is to come up with massive amounts of useless data, a boomerang which could result to be contradictory for the success of the web of data. In this paper, I provide some insights on common problems which may arise when porting huge amount of existing data or conceptual schemes （very common in the agriculture domain） to resource description framwork （RDF）, and will address different modeling choices, by discussing in particular the relationship between the two main modeling vocabularies offered by W3C： OWL and SKOS.
