Dengue is a global health problem without current specific treatment nor safe vaccines *** severe dengue is related to pre-existing non-neutralizing dengue virus(DENV)antibodies,the role of T cells in protection or pathology is *** cutaneous DENV infection in immunocompetent mice we previously showed the generation of PNA+germinal centers(GCs),now we assessed the activation and proliferation of B and T cells in draining lymph nodes(DLNs).We found a drastic remodelling of DLN compartments from 7 to 14 days post-infection(dpi)with greatly enlarged B cell follicles,occupying almost half of the DLN area compared to*24%in na?ve *** clusters of proliferating(Ki-67+)cells inside B follicles were found 14 dpi,representing*33%of B cells in DLNs but only*2%in noninfected *** GCs,we noticed an important recruitment of tingle body macrophages removing apoptotic *** contrast,the percentage of paracortex area and total T cells decreased by 14–16 dpi,compared to *** randomly distributed Ki-67+T cells were found,similar to non-infected ***69 expression by CD4+and CD8+T cells was minor,while it was remarkable in B cells,representing 1764.7%of change from basal levels 3 *** apparent lack of T cell responses cannot be attributed to apoptosis since no significant differences were observed compared to noninfected *** study shows massive B cell activation and proliferation in DLNs upon DENV *** contrast,we found very poor,almost absent CD4+and CD8+T cell responses.

The operation of complex systems can drift away from the initial design conditions,due to environmental condi-tions,equipment wear or specific *** generators are complex equipment and their proper opera-tion relies on the identification of their most relevant *** approach to rank the operational parameters of a subcritical steam generator of an actual 360 MW power plant is *** Artificial Neural Network-ANN delivers a model to estimate the steam generator efficiency,electric power generation and flue gas outlet temperature as a function of seven input *** ANN is trained with a two-year long database,with training errors of 0.2015 and 0.2741(mean absolute and square error)and validation errors of 0.32%and 2.350(mean percent and square error).That ANN model is explored by means of a combination of situations proposed by a Design of Experiment-DoE *** seven controlled parameters showed to be relevant to express both steam generator efficiency and electric power generation,while primary air flow rate and speed of the dynamic classifier can be neglected to calculate flue gas temperature as they are not statistically *** also shows the prominence of the primary air pressure in respect to the steam generator efficiency,electric power generation and the coal mass flow rate for the calculation of the flue gas outlet *** ANN and DoE combined methodology shows to be promising to enhance complex system efficiency and helpful whenever a biased behavior must be brought back to stable operation.

BACKGROUND Orthopedic implant-related infection remains one of the most serious complications after orthopedic *** recent years,there has been an increased scientific interest to improve prevention and treatment ***,many of these strategies have focused on chemical *** To analyze the effect of alternating current electrical fields on bacterial adherence to titanium *** Staphylococcus aureus(***)and Escherichia coli(***)were exposed to 6.5 V electrical currents at different frequencies:0.5 Hz,0.1 Hz,and 0.05 *** exposure,a bacterial count was then performed and compared to the control *** variables registered included the presence of electrocoagulation of the medium,electrode oxidation and/or corrosion,and changes in pH of the *** The most effective electrical model for reducing *** adhesion was 6.5 V alternating current at 0.05 Hz achieving a 90%adhesion reduction *** ***,the 0.05 Hz frequency model also showed the most effective results with a 53%adhesion reduction rate,although these were significantly lower than *** adhesion reduction rates were observed for *** and *** in the studied ***,the presence of electrode oxidation makes us presume these conditions are not optimal for in vivo *** Although our findings suggest electrical currents may be useful in preventing bacterial adhesion to metal surfaces,further research using other electrical conditions must be examined to consider their use for in vivo trials.

Optimization of Micromechanical Cleavage Technique of Natural Graphite by Chemical Treatment

In this work,we report a method to improve the efficiency of the micromechanical cleavage technique to obtain few-layers graphene samples, from natural graphite flakes, which were previously submitted to two chemical treatment times with H2SO4(17 and 25 hours). After the chemical treatment times, Raman spectroscopy reveals a hydrogenation of the few-layer graphene samples, which were obtained from the treated graphite flakes. To analyze the hydrogenation of the samples, the G and 2D bands of the Raman spectra of the treated and un-treated samples were analyzed and compared, as well as the I(2D)/I(G) ratio, revealing a p-doping on the treated samples when compared with the untreated samples. Our studies could be of great importance to obtain larger and greater amount of few-layer graphene samples.

In the Amazon region,several residues that have been misused can serve as feedstocks for biochar production with the aim of recovering soils contaminated by heavy ***,these biochars need to be firstly tested for their adsorption capacity as well as their physicochemical attributes prior to field ***,this study aimed to characterize and evaluate the adsorption capacities of Cd^(2+) and Cu^(2+) of biochars produced from acai(BA),Brazil nut(BN),and palm kernel cake(BK)*** were produced by slow pyrolysis at four different temperatures(400,500,600,and 700℃).The physicochemical properties of the biochars,such as cation exchange capacity,ash,recalcitrance index,and aromaticity were enhanced with increased pyrolysis *** adsorption capacities of Cd^(2+) and Cu^(2+) showed high correlations with the physicochemical properties of biochar,indicating the importance of these characteristics in the adsorption ***,the adsorption of Cd^(2+) and Cu^(2+) also increased with the increase in the pyrolysis *** a competitive system,Cd^(2+)exhibited higher adsorption capacity than Cu^(2+) for all *** general,BN showed the highest adsorption capacity,followed by BK and *** produced from the Amazonian residues have the potential to improve soil quality when used as amendments in the recovery of soils contaminated with Cd and Cu,representing an environmentally sound technology for the reuse of these residues.

Hepatitis C virus clearance and less liver damage in patients with high cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and APOE ε4 allele

BACKGROUND Cholesterol is related to improvements in the rate of sustained virological response and a robust immune response against the hepatitis C virus(HCV).APOE gene polymorphisms regulate cholesterol levels modifying the course of the HCV *** relationship between cholesterol,APOE alleles,and the outcome of HCV infection has not been evaluated in the admixed population of *** To investigate the role of APOE-ε2,-ε3,and-ε4 alleles and the metabolic profile in the outcome of HCV *** A total of 299 treatment-na?ve HCV patients were included in this retrospective *** were stratified in chronic hepatitis C(CHC)(n=206)and spontaneous clearance(SC)(n=93).A clinical record was *** tests were assessed by dry chemistry *** genotypes were determined using a Real-Time polymerase chain reaction *** Total cholesterol,low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-c),triglycerides,and hypercholesterolemia were higher in SC than CHC patients as well as the frequency of the APOEε4 allele(12.4%vs 7.3%).SC patients were overweight(54.8%).Theε4 allele was associated with SC(OR=0.55,95%CI:0.31-0.98,P=0.042)and mild fibrosis(F1-F2)in CHC patients(OR 0.091,95%CI 0.01-0.75,P=0.020).LDL-c≥101.5 mg/dL(OR=0.20,95%CI:0.10-0.41,P<0.001)and BMI≥26.6 kg/m2(OR=0.37,95%CI:0.18-0.76,P<0.001)were associated with SC status;while ALT≥50.5 IU/L was negatively associated(OR=5.67,95%CI:2.69-11.97,P<0.001).CONCLUSION In SC patients,the APOEε4 allele and LDL-c conferred a protective effect in the course of the HCV infection in the context of excess body weight.

Depending on the magnitude and nature of a disaster,identifying the victims can be a complex task that requires coordinated work by disaster victim identification(DVI)teams based on pre-established ***,the analysis of fingerprints has been presented as a method to establish,when possible,the identity of the victims during the DVI *** study discusses the importance of this primary method of identification and the results obtained in four different disasters in which Brazilian DVI teams were involved:the Air France Flight AF447 plane crash in the Atlantic Ocean,floods and mudslides in the State of Rio de Janeiro,Brazil,the LaMia Flight 2933 plane crash in Colombia,and the tailings dam collapse in Brumadinho,***,we also report the use of the automatic fingerprint capture and identification system,called Alethia,developed by the Federal Police of Brazil and used in the victim identification process in the two latter events mentioned above.

The influence of different exercise intensities on kicking accuracy and velocity in soccer players

Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of different exercise intensities induced by a soccer specific protocol on kicking performance in soccer ***: Twelve semi-professional male soccer players participated in this study and performed maximal instep kicks before and after the implementation of an exercise protocol to determine the influence of different intensities upon kicking ball velocity and the target-hitting ***: Analysis of variance designs with repeated measures showed that maximal ball velocity was affected only after the most intense circuit(F(6, 66) = 2.3; p = 0.041; η2= 0.18), while accuracy was not affected in the protocol(F(6, 66) = 0.19; p = 0.98; η2= 0.02). Low and moderate intensities did not affect accuracy or kicking ball ***: These findings suggest that kicking ball velocity is influenced by high-exercise intensities. Low and moderate exercise intensities do not affect the performance of the kick, and intensity does not influence accuracy. Otherwise, it is possible that other mechanisms(not only physiological) may influence players during the exercise.
