Background: Tree species represent 20% of the vascular plant species worldwide and they play a crucial role in the global functioning of the biosphere. The Mediterranean Basin is one of the 36 world biodiversity hotspots, and it is estimated that forests covered 82% of the landscape before the first human impacts, thousands of years ago. However, the spatial distribution of the Mediterranean biodiversity is still imperfectly known, and a focus on tree species constitutes a key issue for understanding forest functioning and develop conservation strategies. Methods: We provide the first comprehensive checklist of all native tree taxa (species and subspecies) present in the Mediterranean-European region (from Portugal to Cyprus). We identified some cases of woody species difficult to categorize as trees that we further called "cryptic trees". We collected the occurrences of tree taxa by"administrative regions", i.e. country or large island, and by biogeographical provinces. We studied the species-area relationship, and evaluated the conservation issues for threatened taxa following IUCN criteria. Results: We identified 245 tree taxa that included 210 species and 35 subspecies, belonging to 33 families and 64 genera. It included 46 endemic tree taxa (30 species and 16 subspecies), mainly distributed within a single biogeographical unit. The countries with the highest tree richness are Greece (146 taxa), Italy (133), Albania (122), Spain (155), Macedonia (116), and Croatia (110). The species-area relationship clearly discriminated the richest central-eastern (Balkans) and northern (Alpine and Cevenno-Pyrenean) biogeographical provinces, against the five western provinces in the Iberian Peninsula. We identified 44 unrecognized "cryptic trees", representing 21% of the total trees. Among the 245 taxa identified, 19 are considered to be threatened (15 CR+EN+VU) or near threatened (4 NT) by IUCN. Establishment of adult right ventricle failure in ovine using a graded, animal-specific pulmonary artery constriction model

Background: Right ventricle failure(RVF) is associated with serious cardiac and pulmonary diseases that contribute significantly to the morbidity and mortality of patients. Currently, the mechanisms of RVF are not fully understood and it is partly due to the lack of large animal models in adult RVF. In this study, we aim to establish a model of RVF in adult ovine and examine the structure and function relations in the ***: RV pressure overload was induced in adult male sheep by revised pulmonary artery constriction(PAC). Briefly, an adjustable hydraulic occluder was placed around the main pulmonary artery trunk. Then, repeated saline injection was performed at weeks 0, 1, and 4, where the amount of saline was determined in an animal-specific manner. Healthy, age-matched male sheep were used as additional controls. Echocardiography was performed bi-weekly and on week 11 post-PAC, hemodynamic and biological measurements were ***: This PAC methodology resulted in a marked increase in RV systolic pressure and decreases in stroke volume and tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion, indicating signs of RVF. Significant increases in RV chamber size, wall thickness, and Fulton's index were observed. Cardiomyocyte hypertrophy and collagen accumulation(particularly type III collagen) were evident, and these structural changes were correlated with RV ***: In summary, the animal-specific, repeated PAC provided a robust approach to induce adult RVF, and this ovine model will offer a useful tool to study the progression and treatment of adult RVF that is translatable to human diseases.

在人脸检测领域,深肤色人种面部图像数据集的缺乏所导致的人脸识别准确率偏低是一个亟待解决的问题,面部识别技术的实践需要更大程度的消除AI歧视,体现广泛公平。近年来,大部分使用监督学习的人脸识别模型受限于较大的模型计算量与数据集的深肤色人种图像数量与结构的不平衡问题,模型效率和深肤色人种的人脸识别精确度有待提升。本文针对人脸识别中的AI歧视问题进行了调研与实践,构建了涵盖多年龄层的有色人种人脸图像数据集,提出了一种能够更好识别面部特征和肤色差异的增强的人脸检测方法,实现了适应多肤色、多年龄层的增强人脸识别桌面系统。本文的研究与实践工作主要围绕以下两个方面展开:(1)构建了兼具多种族背景、多年龄层、不同光照条件和面部特征的人脸图像数据集:平衡和公平面孔(BFF)数据集以及非洲名人的面部图像数据集:AF数据集。通过提取 Balanced Faces in the Wild,FairFace,Labelled Faces in the Wild 和UTK Face四个开放人脸图像数据集的基本数据,进行基本数据的数据混合、数据清洗、数据重构、数据预处理与数据结构再划分,使用图像标注工具Labelme2及Albumentations 3对图像标签和图像规格进行调整和统一,并使用数据增强技术对光照变化、方向、面部表情、对比度、色彩平衡等方面进行改变和调整以达到数据集扩充的目的,以此提高训练模型的鲁棒性,确保数据集的包容性和代表性。(2)提出了一种能够更好识别面部特征和肤色差异的增强的人脸检测模型。借助TensorFlow Keras API,分别使用BFF数据集与AF数据集进行模型训练与参数微调,生成人脸检测模型及识别模型,使用Faster R-CNN模型来估计边界框坐标,通过调整模型参数与损失函数改进模型效果。将所生成的模型在七个不同的数据集上进行了各个指标的横向对比,对模型的识别能力进行了定量度量与定性分析与评估,展示了模型的有效性和鲁棒性,最终实现了更高精度的实时多人种人脸识别桌面系统。

BACKGROUND Careful selection of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)patients prior to chemoembolization treatment is a daily reality,and is even more necessary with new available therapeutic options in *** propose two new models to better stratify patients and maximize clinical benefit:“6 and 12”and“pre/post-TACE-predict”(TACE,transarterial chemoembolization).METHODS We evaluated and compared their performance in predicting overall survival with other systems{Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer(BCLC),Albumin-Bilirubin(ALBI)and NIACE[Number of tumor(s),Infiltrative HCC,alpha-fetoprotein,Child-Pugh(CP),and performance status]}in two HCC French cohorts of different stages enrolled between 2010 and *** The cohorts included 324 patients classified as BCLC stages A/B(cohort 1)and 137 patients classified as BCLC stages B/C(cohort 2).The majority of the patients had cirrhosis with preserved liver function.“Pre-TACE-predict”and“6 and 12”models identified three distinct categories of patients exhibiting different prognosis in cohort ***,their prognostic value was no better than the BCLC system or NIACE *** function based on CP and ALBI grades significantly impacted patient ***,the“post-TACE-predict”model had a higher predictive value than other *** stratification ability as well as predictive performance of these new models in an intermediate/advanced stage population was less efficient(cohort 2).CONCLUSION The newly proposed“Pre-TACE-predict”and“6 and 12”models offer an interesting stratification into three categories in a recommended TACE population,as they identify poor candidates,those with partial control and durable *** models'contribution was reduced in a population with advanced stage HCCs.

Monitoring of Early Field Hepatic Tolerance to NNRTI-Based Regimens with Multiple Biochemical Parameters in Ivorian HIV-1-Infected Patients: A Pilot Study

Background: Multiple biochemical parameters related to cytolysis, cholestasis and/or liver failure, can be used to evaluate liver tolerance to antiretroviral (ARV) drugs. what parameters are most suitable for monitoring early hepatic tolerance in the developing countries? Objective: to evaluate liver tolerance to NVP (nevirapine) or EFV (efavirenz)- based regimens during the first six months. Method: This is a preliminary prospective cohort study with 125 naive ivorian HIV1-infected patients, by observing the level of ALT (alanine aminotransferase), AST (aspartate aminotrans- ferase), ALP (alkaline phosphatase), GGT (gamma-glutamyl transferase), and TBR (total bilirubin). Results: variable changes are noticed in the level of various biochemical parameters from M0 to M6. Nevertheless, we found that the values of these parameters studied fall within normal ranges except for GGT which showed an increased level with NVP-based regimen. Biological liver tolerance to NVP or EFV-based regimen was good at M3 and M6 during therapy. The percentage of patients who had elevated ALT activity had tripled with each ARV regimen from M3 to M6. We noticed a decrease in the median value of transaminases (ALT and AST) from M0 to M6. This decrease was statistically significant for patients on EFV-based regimen from M0 to M3 and from M0 to M6. The ALP enzymes were the least affected after initiation of therapy, regardless of the regimen taken. In general,we noticed an hepatotoxicity of grade 1 or 2, in the two ARV regimens. The hepatotoxicity of grade 3 or 4 were rare (only with transaminases and GGT). Conclusion: we suggest a study of longer duration involving more patients, probably limited to the monitoring of transaminases (ALT and AST) and GGT, due to the results more or less sensitive about them in our analysis.

AIM To compare the performances of the Barcelona clinic liver cancer(BCLC) nomogram and others systems(BCLC, HKLC, CLIP, NIACE) for survival prediction in a large hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) French *** Data were collected retrospectively from 01/2007 to 12/2013 in five French centers. Newly diagnosed HCC patients were analyzed. The discriminatory ability, homogeneity ability, prognostic stratification ability Akaike information criterion(AIC) and C-index were compared among scoring systems. RESULTS The cohort included 1102 patients, mostly men, median age 68 [60-74] years with cirrhosis(81%), child-Pugh A(73%), alcohol-related(41%), HCV-related(27%). HCC were multinodular(59%) and vascular invasion was present in 41% of cases. At time of HCC diagnosis BCLC stages were A(17%), B(16%), C(60%) and D(7%). First line HCC treatment was curative in 23.5%, palliative in 59.5%, BSC in 17% of our population. Median OS was 10.8 mo [4.9-28.0]. Each system distinguished different survival prognosis groups(P < 0.0001). The nomogram had the highest discriminatory ability, the highest C-index value. NIACE score had the lowest AIC value. The nomogram distinguished sixteen different prognosis groups. By classifying unifocal large HCC into tumor burden 1, the nomogram was less powerful. CONCLUSION In this French cohort, the BCLC nomogram and the NIACE score provided the best prognostic information, but the NIACE could even help treatment strategies.
