A growing number of research funding organizations(RFOs)are taking responsibility to increase the scientific and social impact of research *** reusable research data are recognized as relevant output for gaining *** are therefore promoting FAIR research data management and stewardship(RDM)in their research funding ***,the implementation of FAIR RDM still faces important obstacles and *** solve these,stakeholders work together to develop innovative tools and *** we elaborate on the role of RFOs in developing a FAIR funding model to support the FAIR RDM in the funding cycle,integrated with research community specific guidance,criteria and metadata,and enabling automatic assessments of progress and output from *** model facilitates to create research data with a high level of FAIRness that are meaningful for a research *** fully benefit from the model,RFOs,research institutions and service providers need to implement machine actionability in their FAIR RDM tools and *** many stakeholders still need to get familiar with“human actionable”FAIR data practices,the introduction of the model will be stepwise,with an active role of the RFOs in driving FAIR RDM processes as effectively as possible.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)is the major contributor to the global burden of chronic liver diseases and ranges from simple and reversible steatosis to nonalcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH),which may progress into cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).HCC represents the most common liver cancer,and it is a leading cause of death worldwide with an increasing trend for the *** to late diagnosis,non-responsiveness to systemic therapy,and high cancer heterogeneity,the treatment of this malignancy is *** date,liver biopsy and ultrasound(US)are the gold standard procedures for HCC diagnosis and surveillance,although they are not suitable for mass ***,it is impelling to find new,less invasive diagnostic strategies able to detect HCC at an early stage as well as monitor tumor progression and *** and rare inherited variations that boost the switching from NASH to liver cancer may help to predict tumor ***,epigenetic changes which reflect intertumoral heterogeneity occur early in tumorigenesis and are highly stable under pathologic *** severity of hepatic injuries can be detected through the analysis of cell circulating tumor DNAs(ctDNAs),microRNAs(miRNAs),and noncoding RNAs(ncRNAs),which are involved in several pathological processes that feature cancer,including cell growth,survival,and differentiation,thus representing appealing biomarkers for ***,this review discusses the current options for HCC surveillance,focusing on the role of genetic and epigenetic biomarkers as new strategies to refine HCC management.

Endothelial cells （ECs） line blood vessels and function as a vital conduit for oxygen and nutrients, but can also form vascular niches for various types of stem cells. While mostly quiescent throughout adult life, ECs can rapidly switch to a highly active state, and start to sprout in order to form new blood vessels. ECs can also become dysfunctional, as occurs in diabetes and atherosclerosis. Recent studies have demonstrated a key role for EC metabolism in the regulation of angiogenesis, and showed that EC metabolism is even capable of overriding genetic signals. In this review, we will review the basic principles of EC metabolism and focus on the metabolic alterations that accompany EC dysfunction in diabetes and vessel overgrowth in cancer. We will also highlight how EC metabolism influences EC behavior by modulating post-translational modification and epigenetic changes, and illustrate how dietary supplementation of metabolites can change EC responses. Finally, we will discuss the potential of targeting EC metabolism as a novel therapeutic strategy.

Magnesium alloys are candidates as biodegradable medical materials due to their biocompatibility and favorable mechanical ***,the high corrosion rate in physiological media and the release of hydrogen,limit their widespread use in biomedical *** this work,an intermediate coating based on polydopamine(PDOPA),between Mg substrate and an organic coating,was used to decreasing the degradation rate of AZ31 magnesium alloy,during the long-term exposure in simulated body *** Impedance Spectroscopy measurements were carried out to study the corrosion resistance of *** demonstrated that the PDOPA interlayer determined the reduction of the substrate degradation *** results were interpreted supposing a synergistic effect which occurred when PDOPA and the organic coating were used together.

BACKGROUND Metallosis is the result of metallic wear debris in the soft tissues and is associated to both local and systemic inflammatory *** has been reported after total hip and total knee arthroplasty(TKA),but rarely after a unicompartimental knee arthroplasty(UKA).In the context of UKA metallosis,surgeons often opt for revision using a ***,in this paper,the authors successfully treated UKA revising the metal back *** SUMMARY Prior to treat our patient we conducted a literature research through which we identified eleven cases of metallosis after UKA,ten(90.9%)were treated revising using though a *** one case was managed through a uni-on-uni revision,reporting high knee *** patient complained worsening pain and function after a snap occurred at 16 mo after UKA *** 18 mo following surgical debridment and uni-on-uni revision surgery,our patient exhibited a relevant improvement in Oxford Knee Score and a reduction of metal ion levels in the *** Our study highlights that in case of metallosis after UKA,the treatment may be based on surgical debridement and just revising the mobilized components.

Conodont elements are calcium phosphate(apatite structure)mineralized remains of the cephalic feeding apparatus of an extinct marine *** to the high affinity of apatite for rare earth elements(REE)and other high field strength elements(HFSE),conodont elements were frequently assumed to be a reliable archive of sea-water composition and changes that had occurred during ***,the crystallinity index of bioapatite,i.e.,the rate of crystallinity of biologically mediated apatite,should be generally linearly dependent on diagenetic alteration as the greater(and longer)the pressure and temperature to which a crystal is exposed,the greater the resulting *** this study,we detected the uptake of HFSE in conodont elements recovered from a single stratigraphic horizon in the Upper Ordovician of Normandy(France).Assuming therefore that all the specimens have undergone an identical diagenetic history,we have assessed whether conodont taxonomy(and morphology)impacts HFSE uptake and crystallinity *** found that all conodont elements are characterized by a clear diagenetic signature,with minor but significant differences among *** distinctions are evidenced also by the crystallinity index values which show positive correlations with some elements and,accordingly,with diagenesis;however,correlations with the crystallinity index strongly depend on the method adopted for its calculation.

The increasing incidence of type 1 diabetes mellitus(T1DM)in children represents one of the major worldwide health *** is widely thought that T1DM is caused by the autoimmune destruction of insulin-producingβcells in the pancreas due to an aberrant T-cell immune *** date,there are no effective therapeutic strategies to prevent T1DM,as its clinical symptoms become apparent only when mostβcells have already been ***,clinical trials for the prevention of T1DM in children at risk have all been unsuccessful to ***,recent studies have implicated alterations in the gut microbial flora(that is,microbiota)as a potential etiological factor for T1DM,raising the possibility that interfering with the microbes populating our body could represent a promising approach to prevent or manage *** evidence strongly supporting this hypothesis comes from a milestone study by Mariño et al.,1 which shows that a diet capable of modulating the activity of the gut microbiota can indeed inhibit the disease onset in a mouse model of ***,these findings pave the way for the development of food-based dietary approaches for preventing high-risk children from developing T1DM.
