Origin and molecular characterization of the human-infecting H6N1 infl uenza virus in Taiwan

In June 2013,the fi rst human H6N1 infl uenza virus infec-tion was confirmed in ***,the origin and molecular characterization of this virus,A/Taiwan/2/2013(H6N1),have not been well studied thus *** the present report,we performed phylogenetic and coalescent analy-ses of this virus and compared its molecular profi le/char-acteristics with other closely related *** characterization of H6N1 revealed that it is a typical avian infl uenza virus of low pathogenicity,which might not rep-licate and propagate well in the upper airway in *** analysis revealed that the virus clusters with A/chicken/Taiwan/A2837/2013(H6N1)in seven genes,except *** the PB1 gene,A/Taiwan/2/2013 was clus-tered with a different H6N1 lineage from A/chicken/Taiwan/A2837/*** a previous study demonstrated that the PB2,PA,and M genes of A/Taiwan/2/2013 might be derived from the H5N2 viruses,coalescent analyses revealed that these H5N2 viruses were derived from more recent strains than that of the ancestor of A/Taiwan/2/***,we propose that A/Taiwan/2/2013 is a reassor-tant from different H6N1 lineages circulating in chickens in ***,compared to avian isolates,a sin-gle P186L(H3 numbering)substitution in the hemaggluti-nin H6 of the human isolate might increase the mammali-an receptor binding and,hence,this strain’s pathogenicity in ***,human infection with this virus seems an accidental event and is unlikely to cause an infl uenza ***,its co-circulation and potential reas-sortment with other infl uenza subtypes are still worthy of attention.

The Zika virus(ZIKV) is an arbovirus that has spread rapidly worldwide within recent times. There is accumulating evidence that associates ZIKV infections with Guillain-Barré Syndrome(GBS) and microcephaly in humans. The ZIKV is genetically diverse and can be separated into Asian and African lineages. A rapid, sensitive, and specific assay is needed for the detection of ZIKV across various pandemic regions. So far, the available primers and probes do not cover the genetic diversity and geographic distribution of all ZIKV strains. To this end, we have developed a one-step quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(qRT-PCR) assay based on conserved sequences in the ZIKV envelope(E) gene. The detection limit of the assay was determined to be five RNA transcript copies and 2.94 × 10^(–3) 50% tissue culture infectious doses(TCID50) of live ZIKV per reaction. The assay was highly specific and able to detect five different ZIKV strains covering the Asian and African lineages without nonspecific amplification, when tested against other flaviviruses. The assay was also successful in testing for ZIKV in clinical samples. Our assay represents an improvement over the current methods available for the detection ZIKV and would be valuable as a diagnostic tool in various pandemic regions.

GPS measured static and kinematic offsets at near and far field of the 2011 Mw 9.0 Tohoku-Oki earthquake

The Mw 9.0 Tohoku-Oki earthquake that hit the mainland Japan on 11 th March, 2011 had resulted a devastating Tsunami due to an active thrusting between the Pacific and the North American Plates. Static and kinematic offsets at the offshore epicentre of the Mw 9.0 event remain unanswered and being investigated along with their near and far field limiting distances from the epicentre. Accordingly, offset measurements from 60 continuously operating IGS and GEONET GNSS stations were radially classified from the epicentre and interpreted with analytical models to find their linear offset decay rates. Co-and post-seismic static positional anomaly offsets of sixty days show almost all near field stations had strong or appreciable eastward or south eastward static shifts. Near stations(ew component shift >1.5 m. Spatial models of projected N-S static and kinematic offsets show their asymmetrical distributions around the epicentre with maximum model offset of-1.84 m displaced towards south at-45 km north of the epicentre. The Tohoku-Oki earthquake produced a resultant kinematic offset of-10.2 m towards East at its offshore epicentre;while the estimated near field static offset is ~9.82 m. However, both estimates are bigger than double the resultant offset measured value(~4.3 m) in the Japanese mainland using GPS. The difference in the kinematic and static near field offsets highlight that the near surface had elastic or in-elastic kinematic strain dissipation as against the lithospheric level viscoelastic static response, which resulted rapid kinematic strain release(1.12 cm/km)within the limiting radius of ~220 km from the Tohoku-Oki epicentr

A novel Clade 2.***.2.1c H5N1 reassortant virus caused several outbreaks in wild birds in some regions of China from late 2014 to *** on the genetic and phylogenetic analyses,the viruses possess a stable gene constellation with a Clade 2.***.2.1c HA,a H9N2-derived PB2 gene and the other six genes of Asian *** Clade 2.***.2.1c H5N1 reassortants displayed a high genetic relationship to a human H5N1 strain(A/Alberta/01/2014).Further analysis showed that similar viruses have been circulating in wild birds in China,Russia,Dubai(Western Asia),Bulgaria and Romania(Europe),as well as domestic poultry in some regions of *** affected areas include the Central Asian,East Asian-Australasian,West Asian-East African,and Black Sea/Mediterranean *** results show that the novel Clade 2.***.2.1c reassortant viruses are circulating worldwide and may have gained a selective advantage in migratory birds,thus posing a serious threat to wild birds and potentially humans.

Dear Editor,Avian influenza viruses （AIVs） have posed a serious threat to poultry production and public health. To date, more than fourteen AIV subtypes that are able to infect human beings have been documented. Also, it is suggested that new subtypes may be reported in the future, owing to the migration of wild birds and live poultry transportation （Gao, 2018）.Poultry may act as a potential incubator for novel subtypes of avian influenza virus （Bi et al., 2016a; Bi et al., 2016b; Liu et al., 2014a; Su et al., 2017）. 青藏高原北缘阿尔金山东北段大平沟金矿床是受ew向伸展构造(拉配泉正断层)控制的韧性剪切带型金矿床。本文阐明了大平沟金矿床地质特征和矿床成因,并利用锆石TIMS法和离子探针U-Pb定年方法、40Ar/39Ar阶段加温测年和MDD模拟方法,分析了与金矿床有关的岩浆作用和伸展构造的活动时代。结果表明,与大平沟金矿床有关的花岗岩浆活动的时代为早奥陶世(485Ma),而金矿床的控矿构造(拉配泉正断层)的活动时代为早侏罗世(200～187Ma期间)。由此可见早古生代岩浆活动为青藏高原北缘的金矿化提供了物质来源,而中生代伸展作用直接控制了金矿化,金的成矿时代为早侏罗世。

埃博拉病毒是一种可引起人和非人灵长类动物出血热传染病的最为致命的烈性病毒,致死率可达90%。2014年在西非爆发的埃博拉疫情引起了全世界的关注。疫苗接种是预防和控制传染病最为常规和有效的方法,尽管目前还没有正式获得批准上市的埃博拉病毒疫苗,但是已有多个尚处于研究阶段的疫苗在非人灵长类动物上取得了很好的保护效果,并有几个已进入临床Ⅰ期试验阶段,有望尽快用于本次埃博拉疫情的防控。本文对目前处于研究阶段的多个类型的埃博拉病毒疫苗进行了综述,为相关研究人员提供参考。

沿着青藏高原北缘的阿尔金山脉东段 ,发育了长度大于 30 0km、ew走向的拉配泉断裂。中美合作阿尔金课题组的地质填图结果表明 ,该断层实际上是一条南倾的正断层 ,局部倾角可以低至 30°以下。沉积学和热年代学研究控制了拉配泉断裂的活动时代 :早—中侏罗统地层可以解释为断裂上盘的伸展盆地沉积 ;下盘岩石中钾长石40 Ar/ 3 9Ar测年和MDD模拟给出 2个阶段的冷却事件 ,早期事件出现在约 2 2 0～ 187Ma之间 ,晚期事件出现在早白垩世晚期 (约 10 0Ma)。早期事件代表了拉配泉断裂正断作用的主要阶段。
