In this work a comparative bioadsorption study between a biocomposite consisting of hydrolysed vineyard pruning waste entrapped in calcium alginate spheres and non entrapped vineyard residue was carried *** have demonstrated that the biocomposite based on lignocellulose-calcium alginate spheres removed 77.3% of dyes,while non entrapped lignocellulose eliminated only removed 27.8% of colour *** experimental data were fitted to several kinetic models（pseudo-first order,pseudo-second order,Chien-Clayton model,intraparticle diffusion model and Bangham model）; being pseudo-second order the kinetic model that better described the adsorption of dyes onto both *** addition,a morphological study（roughness and shape） of alginate-vineyard biocomposite was established under extreme conditions,observing significant differences between hydrated and dehydrated alginate-vineyard *** techniques used to carry out this morphological study consisted of scanning electron microscopy（SEm）,perfilometry and 3D surface analysis.

Objectives:Folates are B vitamins that are essential for several m.lecular,cellular,and biological processes,including nucleotide synthesis,methylation,and methionine *** physiological impacts of these processes on health also extend to cell proliferation,folate deficiency anemia,and reduction of the risk of birth defects during *** primary objective of this study was to characterize the binding affinities of different folate forms,folic acid(FA),5-methyltetrahydrofolate(5mTHF),and folinic acid,to the folate receptorsαandβ,and to the bovine m.lk folate binding *** three dietary forms of folate are found in enriched grains(FA),various fruits and leafy vegetables(folinic acid),and red blood cells(5mTHF).methods:The half maxim.l inhibitory concentration values and binding curves of each of these folates for each receptor were ***:Our results indicated that FA had the highest affinity for all folate receptors,followed by 5mTHF,and lastly,by folinic acid,examined by several orders of ***:These data are expected to provide new insights into the therapeutic applications of the different forms of folate in a variety of diseases.

One of the most vulnerable parts to natural hazards in Serbia is Kolubara river basin. In the past, during the period from 1929 to 2013, 121 torrential flood events in the Kolubara river basin were recorded which show that this territory is extrem.ly vulnerable to the torrential floods. The extreme event which occurred in may 2014 causing the catastrophic material damages and casualties was the latest and historical flood. The analysis of natural conditions in the Kolubara basin uniformly showed that this area is predisposed to a greater number of torrential floods due to its geomorphological, hydrological and land use properties. Torrential floods are closely related to the intensity and spatial distribution of erosive processes in the upper part of the Kolubara basin. The estimation of soil erosion potential is generally achieved by Erosion Potential model(EPm). For the purposes of determining the degree of torrential properties in various water streams in the Kolubara basin, the calculation ofsusceptibility to torrential floods was assessed by Flash Flood Potential Index(FFPI). more than half of the basin area(57.2%) is located within the category of very weak and weak erosion(Z_(sr) = 0.35), but the category of medium erosion is geospatially very common. Such a distribution of medium erosion category provides conditions for generating, i.e. production of sediment which would boost torrential properties of water streams. After the classification of the obtained FFPI values it was determined that 25% of the Kolubara basin is very susceptible to torrents and this data should be seriously taken into consideration. Based on the analyses, the best and most successful manner of defence is prevention which consists of the integrated river basin management system(integrated torrent control system) so that technical works in hydrographic networks of torrents and biological and biotechnical works on the slope of the basin would be the best solution. Saffron(Crocus sativus l.)has been traditionally used in food preparation and as a medicinal *** currently has numerous therapeutic properties attributed to it,such as protection against ischemia,as well as anticonvulsant,antidepressant,anxiolytic,hypolipidemic,anti-atherogenic,anti-hypertensive,antidiabetic,and anti-cancer *** addition,saffron has remarkable beneficial properties,such as anti-apoptotic,anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities,due to its main metabolites,among which crocin and crocetin stand ***,increasing evidence underwrites the possible neuroprotective role of the main bioactive saffron constituents in neurodegenerative diseases,such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases,both in experimental models and in clinical studies in ***,saffron supplementation is being tested for ocular neurodegenerative pathologies,such as diabetic retinopathy,retinitis pigmentosa,age-related macular degeneration and glaucoma,among others,and shows beneficial *** present article provides a comprehensive and up to date report of the investigations on the beneficial effects of saffron extracts on the main neurodegenerative ocular pathologies and other ocular *** review showed that saffron extracts could be considered promising therapeutic agents to help in the treatment of ocular neurodegenerative diseases.

Highly faceted geometries such as nanowires are prone toform self-formed features,especially those that are driven by *** these features is important in preventing their formation,understanding their effects on nanowire properties,or engineering them for *** elemental segregation lines that run along the radii of the hexagonal cross-section have been a common observation in alloy semiconductor ***,in GaAsP nanowires,two additional P rich bands are formed on either side of the primary band,resulting in a total of three segregation bands in the vicinity of three of the alternating *** bands are less intense than the primary band and their formation can be attributed to the inclined nanofacets that form in the vicinity of the *** formation of the secondary bands requires a higher composition of P in the shell,and to be grown under conditions that increase the diffusivity difference between As and ***,it is observed that the primary band can split into two narrow and parallel *** can take place in all six radii,making the cross sections to have up to a maximum of 18 radial segregation *** controlled growth,these features could be exploited to assem.le m.ltiple different quantum structures in a new dimension(circumferential direction)within nanowires.

The performances of the response surface methodology(RSm)in connection with the Box–Behnken,face central composite or full factorial design(BBD,FCCD or FFD,respectively)were compared for the use in modeling of the NaOH-catalyzed sunflower oil *** influence of temperature,catalyst loading,and ethanol-to-oil m.lar ratio(EOmR)on fatty acid ethyl esters(FAEE)content was *** three m.ltivariate strategies were efficient in the statistical modeling and optimization of the influential process variables but BBD and FCCD realization involved less number of experiments,generating sm.ller costs,requiring less work and consuming shorter time than the corresponding *** three designs resulted in the same optim.l catalyst loading(1.25%of oil)and EOmR(12:1).The reduced two-factorinteraction(2 FI)models based on the BBD and FCCD defined a range of optim.l reaction temperature(25℃–75℃)and 25℃,respectively while the same model based on the 33 FFD appointed 75℃.The predicted FAEE content of about 97%–98.0%was close to the experimentally obtained FAEE content of about 97.0%–97.6%under the optim.l reaction ***,the sim.ler BBD or FCCD might successfully be applied for statistical modeling of biodiesel production processes instead of the more extensive,more laborious and more expensive FFD.

Degradation of duloxetine: Identification of transformation products by UHPlC-ESI(+)-HRmS/mS,in silico toxicity and wastewater analysis

Duloxetine(DUl), an antidepressant drug, has been detected in surface water and wastewater effluents, however, there is little information on the formation of its transformation products(TPs). In this work, hydrolysis, photodegradation(UV irradiation) and chlorination experiments were performed on spiked distillated water, under controlled experimental conditions to sim.late abiotic processes that can occur in the environment and wastewater treatment plants(WWTPs). Eleven TPs, nine from reaction with UV light and two from chlorine contact, were formed and detected by ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled to quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry, and nine of them had their chemical structures elucidated upon analyses of their fragmentation patterns in mS/mS spectra. The formation and degradation of the TPs were observed. The parent compound was com.letely degraded after30 min in photodegradation and after 24 hr in chlorination. Almost all TPs were com.letely degraded in the experiments. The ecotoxicity and mutagenicity of the TPs were predicted based on several in silico models and it was found that a few of these products presented more ecotoxicity than DUl itself and six TPs showed positive mutagenicity. Finally, wastewater sam.les were analyzed and DUl and one TP, possibly formed by chlorination process, were detected in the effluent, which showed that WWTP not only did not remove DUl, but also formed a TP.

Continuous room temperature nanowire lasing from silicon-integrated optoelectronic elements requires careful optimisation of both the lasing cavity Q-factor and population inversion *** apply time-gated optical interferometry to the lasing emission from high-quality GaAsP/GaAs quantum well nanowire laser structures,revealing high Q-factors of 1250±90 corresponding to end-facet reflectivities of R=0.73±*** using optimised direct-indirect band alignment in the active region,we demonstrate a well-refilling mechanism providing a quasifour-level system.leading to m.lti-nanosecond lasing and record low room temperature lasing thresholds(~6μJ cm^(−2) pulse−1)for Ⅲ-Ⅴ nanowire *** findings demonstrate a highly promising new route towards continuously operating silicon-integrated nanolaser elements.
