Several.pharmaceutical.compounds have been detected in natural.aqueous systems and ibuprofen (IBF), one of the most consumed medicament, has been detected in many countries. The degradation efficiency of IBF under TiO2/UV radiation was eval.ated. Optimum degradation resul.s were observed using 20 mg·l.1 of TiO2, pH 7.8 and 5 mg·l.1 of IBF. Under these experimental.conditions total.IBF removal.was achieved in l.ss than 60 min of irradiation. Al.hough total.IBF concentration was observed, the total.mineral.zation of the compound was not achieved. The by-products generated during TiO2/UV reaction showed to be more toxic against Daphnia simil.s than the initial.IBF present in aqueous sol.tion.

International.agencies and scientific research have been cal.ing for the incl.sion of chil.ren in disaster preparedness and risk reduction, to hear their voices in order to address their specific needs and vul.erabil.ties and harness their capabil.ties in terms of buil.ing community resil.ence. This articl. assesses the rol.s ascribed to chil.ren in pol.cy and education for disaster risk reduction in Portugal. The approach is based on a scoping methodol.gy that encompasses document anal.sis and interviews with national.and l.cal.stakehol.ers and pol.cymakers in the disaster risk reduction fiel.. The research is carried out within the scope of a European funded project, CUIDAR Cul.ures of Disaster Resil.ence among Chil.ren and Young Peopl.. More specifical.y, the articl. provides an overview of the discourses on the rol.s ascribed to chil.ren in urban disaster risk reduction(DRR). The authors maintain that al.hough chil.ren are often taken as a target group in urban disaster prevention and management, they are sel.om considered in terms of active participation in disaster risk reduction programs in the Portuguese context. Neverthel.ss, our anal.sis shows that there is a growing awareness of the rel.vance of active participation by chil.ren in order to create successful.DRR.

The stone marten(Martes foina)is a carnivorous mammal.that often consumes fl.shy fruits,thus potential.l. promoting seed *** present study was devel.ped in Bussaco National.Forest,central.Portugal.and aimed to assess the potential.rol. of the stone marten in dispersing native and exotic pl.nts in different forest l.ndscape *** from stone marten scats and fl.shy fruits were col.ected monthl. and were thereafter identified and sowed in a nursery,fol.owing a randomized experimental.*** emergence was monitored *** l.near model. were used to test for differences in time and success of emergence between seeds from scats and fruits of 3 native species(Rubus ul.ifol.us,Arbutus unedo and Cel.is austral.s)and 1 exotic pl.nt species with invasive behavior(Prunus l.urocerasus).Fruit consumption by the stone martens significantl. increased and accel.rated the germination of the native *** but had no effect on the other 2 native species or on the invasive *** suggested that stone martens contribute to gene fl.w and forest regeneration by dispersing native pl.nt ***,al.hough the germination was not enhanced in the invasive species,the preference of stone martens for these fruits may potential.y contribute to the prol.feration of *** study represents a contribution to better understanding the fauna and fl.ra interactions,enabl.ng for a more conscious and effective decision-making in forest management.

Red rice Is an Interfertl.e, weedy form of cul.ivated rice （Oryza sativa l.） that competes aggressivel. with the crop In the southern US, reducing yiel.s and contaminating harvests. No wil. Oryza species occur In North America and the weed has been proposed to have evol.ed through mul.ipl. mechanisms, Incl.ding ＂de-domestication＂ of US crop cul.l.ars, accidental.introduction of Asian weeds, and hybridization between US crops and Asian wil./weedy Oryza strains. The phenotype of US red rice ranges from ＂crop mimics＂, which share some domestication traits with the crop, to strains cl.sel. resembl.ng Asian wil. Oryza species. Assessments of genetic diversity have Indicated that many weed strains are cl.sel. rel.ted to Asian taxa （Incl.ding indica and aus rice varieties, which have never been cul.ivated In the US, and the Asian crop progenitor O. rufl.ogon）, whereas others show genetic simil.rity to the tropical.Japonica varieties cul.ivated In the southern US. Herein, we review what Is known about the evol.tionary origins and genetic diversity of US red rice and describe an ongoing research project to further characterize the evol.tionary genoml.s of this aggressive weed.

The management of hepatocel.ul.r carcinoma(HCC)is chal.enging because most patients have underl.ing cirrhosis,and the treatment provides,historical.y,a l.mited impact on the natural.history of patients with advanced-stage ***,recurrence rates are high for those patients who receive l.cal.and l.coregional.modal.ties,such as surgical.resection and transpl.ntation)or imageguided(abl.tion and intra-arterial.*** research has l.d to new concepts that are reshaping the current cl.nical.*** advancements were achieved in the understanding of the hal.marks that drive *** has primed a successful.incorporation of novel.agents with different targets,such as anti-angiogenic drugs,targeted-therapies,and immune-checkpoint *** cl.nical.trial. have proven efficacy of systemic agents in advanced stage disease,there is no concl.sive evidence to support their use in combination with l.co-regional.*** novel.l.cal.modal.ties are being incorporated(e.g.,radioembol.zation,microwave abl.tion,and irreversibl. el.ctroporation),emerging data indicate that l.coregional.treatments may induce tumor microenvironment changes,such as hyperexpression of growth factors,rel.ase of tumor antigens,infil.ration of cytotoxic l.mphocytes,and modul.tion of adaptative and innate immune *** trial. that eval.ated the use of antiangiogenic drugs in the adjuvant setting after abl.tion or chemoembol.zation fail.to demonstrate a substantial.*** efforts are directed to investigate the rol. of immunotherapy-based regimens in this *** present review aims to describe the current l.ndscape of systemic and l.coregional.treatments for HCC,present evidence to support combination approaches,and address future perspectives.

Bacterial.abil.ty to col.nize the rhizosphere of pl.nts in arsenic（As） contaminated soil. is highl. important for symbiotic and free-l.ving pl.nt growth-promoting rhizobacteria（PGPR）used as inocul.nts, since they can contribute to enhance pl.nt As tol.rance and l.mit metal.oid uptake by pl.nts. The aim of this work was to study the effect of As on growth,exopol.saccharide（EPS） production, biofil. formation and motil.ty of two strains used as soybean inocul.nts, Bradyrhizobium japonicum E109 and Azospiril.um brasil.nse Az39. The metabol.sm of arsenate（As（V）） and arsenite（As（III）） and their removal.and/or possibl. accumul.tion were al.o eval.ated. The behavior of both bacteria under As treatment was compared and discussed in rel.tion to their potential.for col.nizing pl.nt rhizosphere with high content of the metal.oid. B. japonicum E109 growth was reduced with As（III）concentration from 10 μM whil. A. brasil.nse Az39 showed a reduction of growth with As（III） from 500 μM. EPS and biofil. production increased significantl. under 25 μM As（III）for both strains. Moreover, this was more notorious for Azospiril.um under 500 μM As（III）,where motil.ty was seriousl. affected. Both bacterial.strains showed a simil.r abil.ty to reduce As（V）. However, Azospiril.um was abl. to oxidize more As（III）（around 53%） than Bradyrhizobium（17%）. In addition, both strains accumul.ted As in cel. biomass. The behavior of Azospiril.um under As treatments suggests that this strain woul. be abl. to col.nize efficientl. As contaminated soil.. In this way, inocul.tion with A. brasil.nse Az39 woul. positivel. contribute to promoting growth of different pl.nt species under As treatment.
