Effects of Vitamin C and NADH on in Vitro Proliferative Function of Human Lymphocytes Exposed to Pesticides （Mancozeb and Metribuzin）

Antioxidants such as vitamin C and NADH can protect against pesticide adverse effects on immune function. The aim of this work was to study the in vitro effects of vitamin C and NADH on the proliferative responses of human lymphocytes exposed to pesticides （Mancozeb fungicide and Metribuzin herbicide） and on Thl and Th2 cytokine secretion. Their possible protective role on intracellular stress oxidative induced by pesticides was also investigated. Peripheral blood lymphocytes were isolated using differential centrifugation on a density gradient of Histopaque. They were cultured with mitogen concanavalin A （Con A）, Mancozeb and Metribuzin （50 μM） in the presence or the absence of vitamin C （50 μM） or NADH （50 μM）. Proliferation （MTT assay）, IL-2, INFγ and IL-4 （Elisa kits）, oxidative markers （intracellular superoxide anion, hydroperoxides, carbonyl proteins, GSH, catalase and SOD） were determined, The results showed that pesticides were immunosuppressive and decreased cytokine secretion with a shift away from to Thl phenotype. These immunomodulatory properties were accompanied by an increase in lymphocyte intracellular oxidative stress. The presence of vitamin C or NADH, in the medium, exhibited protective effects in human lymphocytes by inhibiting pesticide---induced lymphocyte proliferation suppression, inflammatory status and oxidative stress generation. In conclusion, vitamin C and NADH can result in a safe and effective method to reduce pesticide adverse effects and help to restore immune function.

Background: The prevalence of overweight and obesity associated with oxidative stress and immune abnormalities is continuously increasing. Antioxidant supplementations might counteract potential damage caused by ROS to cellular tissues. Objective: To determine the role of vitamins on immune improvement during obesity, we investigated in vitro effects of vitamins C, E, and NADH on mitogen-stimulated proliferation, Th1- and Th2-type cytokine production, and oxidant/antioxidant status of lymphocytes isolated from obese patients. Methods: Peripheral blood lymphocytes were isolated using a density gradient of Histopaque. They were in vitro cultured and stimulated by Con A in the presence or absence of vitamins. Cell proliferation was determined by MTT assay and interleukin-2, interleukin-4 and interferon-γ (INFγ) secretions. Cell oxidant/antioxidant balance was studied by assaying glutathione (GSH), malondialdehyde (MDA), carbonyl protein levels, catalase activity and micronucli frequency. Results: Obesity is associated with enhanced oxidative stress response. Indeed, vitamin C, E and NADH improved significantly lymphocyte proliferation and diminished cellular oxidative stress. Conclusion: Treatments of lymphocytes with vitamins had beneficial effects on lymphocyte proliferation, cytokines secretions and redox status, generating an anti-inflammatory profile and should be considered in therapeutic approaches for normalizing immune cell function in obesity.

Background: Dietary fatty acids have important homeostatic functions in regulating the immune response and may exert beneficial effects on immune alterations during obesity. Objective: To assess the in vitro effects of oil fatty acids, different oils (olive, linseed, Nigel, sunflower) were tested on T-lymphocyte proliferation, Th1- and Th2-type cytokine production, and intracellular oxidant/antioxidant status in obese patients. Methods: Peripheral blood lymphocytes were isolated using Histopaque and were in vitro cultured and stimulated by Con A in the presence or absence of the oils. Cell proliferation, interleukin-2, interleukin-4 and interferon-γ (INFγ) secretions and intracellular oxidative status (glutathione (GSH), malondialdehyde (MDA), carbonyl protein levels, catalase activity and micronuclei frequency) were investigated. Results: Abnormalities in lymphocyte function and intracellular oxidative stress were observed in obesity. Linseed oil induced a reduction in T-lymphocyte proliferation and IL-2 production while Nigel oil increased them in both obese and control groups. In addition, Nigel oil enhanced IFNγ and IL-4 secretion. Olive and sunflower oils had no effect on lymphocyte proliferation and cytokine secretion in both groups. Linseed and Nigel oils induced an increase in T cell GSH concentrations and catalase activity with a concomitant decrease in MDA, carbonyl protein contents and micronuclei frequency especially in obese patients. Conclusion: Linseed and Nigel oils had beneficial effects on lymphocyte proliferation, cytokines secretions and redox status, while olive and sunflower oils had no effects on immune cell function in obesity.

Design of Photonic Crystal Triplexer with Core-Shell Rod Defects

We investigate an optical compact triplexer based on two photonic crystal waveguides and resonant cavities. For performing wavelength selection, we use three core-shell rods as the resonant cavities. The core rods are created by introducing air holes in the center of the silicon rods. By varying the radii of the air holes, three specific wavelengths 1.31, 1.49 and 1.55μm can be obtained. This structure is designed and its performance is verified by the finite-difference time-domain method, which is highly suitable for photonic integrated circuits （PICs）. The average output transmission efficiency and quality factor are more than 98.85% and 560, respectively. The mean value of the crosstalk between output channels is about -36.49 dB. The present device is extremely compact with total size 96.24μm2, which is suitable for PICs and can be utilized in the fiber-to-the-home system.

Variations in radioactivity of phosphate rocks from different sites in Central Eastern Desert of Upper Egypt

Natural radionuclides in the phosphate rock samples collected from Wadi Batur,Wadi Hegaza and Gabal Abu Had at Eastern Desert were determined using a high resolution γ-ray *** experimental results concerning ^226Ra,232Th and their daughters are *** of the measured spectra show that ^226Ra is distinguished with remarkable activities with average values ranging from 22.4 to 558Bq/kg,while ^232Th activity concentration is in the range of 9.7 to 92.8Bq/*** results of the analyses were found to be in a good agreement with the data obtained by others.

DCR-OL is a Distributed Collaborative Reasoning multi-agent model with an Online Learning thataims to identify human activities in smart homes from distributed, heterogeneous and dynamicsensor data. In this model, distributed learning agents with diverse classifiers, detect sensorstream data, make local predictions, communicate and collaborate to identify current ***, they learn from their collaborations to improve their own performance in activity *** resolution strategies are applied to generate one final predicted activity when thelocal predicted activity of an agent is different from received predicted activities of other *** this paper, two conflict resolution strategies using online learning, w-max-trust and w-maxfreq,are proposed. We experimentally test these strategies by performing an evaluation studyon the Aruba dataset. The obtained results indicate an enhancement in terms of accuracy and Fmeasuremetrics compared to the offline strategies max-trust and max-freq and also to the onlineexisting one max-wPerf .

Transmission and Reflection of Water-Wave on a Floating Ship in Vast Oceans

In this paper,we study the water-wave flow under a floating body of an incident wave in a *** model simulates the phenomenon of waves abording a floating ship in a vast *** same model,also simulates the phenomenon of fluid-structure interaction of a large ice sheet in *** to this *** divide the region of the problem into three ***,satisfying the equation in the fluid mass and a part of the boundary conditions in each subregion,are *** obtain such solutions as infinite series including unknown *** consider a limited number only of the coefficients by truncating the infinite series and satisfy the remaining boundary conditions *** experiments show that the results are *** are given along with the graph of the system of the resulting streamlines and the dynamical pressure acting on the *** drawn system of streamlines shows the correctness of the solution and the pressure is maximum on the side facing the upstream extremity of the *** same procedure can be adequately applied for problems with more complicated geometry and other phenomenon can thus be simulated.

Objective:To investigate the antioxidant and hepatoprotective properties of Juniperus phoenicea(***)berries against CCl_4-induced oxidative damage in ***:Hepatotoxicity was induced in albino Wistar rats by single dose of CCl_4 dissolved in olive oil(1 mL/kg BW,1/1 in olive oil,ip).Aqueous extract of *** berries(AEJP)was administered at the dose of 250 mg/kg/day by gavage for 12 ***:Obtained results revealed that administration of CCl_4 caused a significant increase in plasma ASAT,ALAT,ALP and LDH activities and total bilirubin concentration,compared to the control ***,albumin and total protein concentration were significantly ***,a significant decrease in the level of hepatic GSH,GPx and GST activities associated with a significant increase of MDA content in CCl_4 group than those of the ***,the treatment of experimental rats with AEJP prevented these alterations and maintained the antioxidant *** histopathological observations supported the biochemical evidences of ***:The results of the present investigation indicate that *** possesses hepatoprotective activity and this effect was may be due to its antioxidant proprerties.

The best alternative to fight against corrosion is the use of an inhibitor,the purpose of this work is the formulation of a new biomass-based molecule against corrosion of carbon *** was extracted using the Kraft process and phenylhydrazine molecules have been *** influence of the lignin-phenyl-hydrazone(LP)on the corrosion of carbon steel in salt and the acidic medium was studied by the polarization resistance,the potentiodynamic polarization,and the electrochemical impedance *** results of these tests reveal that the behavior of the inhibitor is a mixed *** adsorption mechanism of the inhibitor follows the Langmuir isothermal *** energy shows that the process of inhibition of carbon steel is *** SEM confirms that the inhibitor reduces the corrosion of the steel and stops the corrosion pitting *** modified lignin shown as a good corrosion inhibitor in acid medium is highly saline with an efficiency>96%.
