TIMP-1 Production in human Retinal Pigment Epithelial Cells after Laser Exposure

Purpose: To investigate changes in the production of tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase type 1 (TIMP-1) by human retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells following argon laser ***: human cultured ARPE19 cells were exposed to argon green laser at four different energy levels ranging from 60mW to 360mW. After laser exposure, the culture media were sampled at 0, 24, 72 and 144 hours for TIMP-1 concentration produced by the RPE cells. The levels of TIMP-1 in the cells treated with different laser energy levels were compared with a control group not exposed to laser *** for proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) was performed to detect any adverse effects on the RPE cells caused by laser ***: Immediately after laser exposure, the concentration of TIMP- 1 was not detectable. At 24 hours after laser exposure, the concentration of TIMP-1 increased significantly in RPE cells treated with 120mW and 240mW at 24 hours (P=0.006 and P=0.001respectively) compared with control cells. At 72 hours after treatment, RPE cells treated at 120mW, 240mW and 360mW demonstrated significantly increase in TIMP-1production compared with control (P=0.003, P ＜ 0.001 and P ＜ 0.001, respectively).No significant reduction in cell viability was observed following laser application as detected by PCNA ***: Our results demonstrated that early TIMP-1 production by RPE cells in cell cultures was enhanced following laser exposure.

目的:在用或不用吲哚氰绿内界膜染色剥膜的情况下,比较特发性黄斑裂孔术后的解剖及视力结果。方法:对连续采用单纯注气术进行眼内填充的40眼特发性黄斑裂孔进行回顾性分析,所有手术均由一位医生完成。所有的患眼术后至少经过了6月的随访。40眼中的前22眼采用保留内界膜手术(非内界膜剥除组),后18眼采用吲哚氰绿对内界膜染色并进行内界膜剥除手术(内界膜剥除组)。结果:内界膜剥除组和非内界膜剥除组特发性黄斑裂孔解剖复位率分别为88.9%和59.1%,统计结果有显著性差异(Fisher’检验,P =0.038)。内界膜剥除组视力提高较非内界膜剥除组更为明显,平均分别提高了3.46和1.3行(t检验,P =0.0356)。多数病例术后视力提高2行或更多,在内界膜剥除组为66.7%,非内界膜剥除组为31.8%(χ2检验,P = 0.028)。然而在2组之间最终的术后logMAR BC-VA没有明显的差异(t检验,P =0.0073)。结论:根据以上研究,通过吲哚氰绿内界膜染色剥除内界膜可促进特发性黄斑裂孔解剖复位及视力的提高。在此方面进一步的研究是必要的。

目的:研究人工泪液爱丽和倍然对成年近视眼角膜厚度的影响。方法:应用Orbscan Ⅱ角膜地形图系统(Orbscan,Inc,SaltLakeCity,UT,USA,Version3.00E)对滴人工泪液爱丽或倍然0.5h后的最薄角膜厚度(ThN)变化进行测量,38例(76眼)被随机分成爱丽组和倍然组,分别于滴药前和滴药后0.5h进行3次ThN测量。结果:两组ThN在滴药前无差异(t=0.264),但滴药0.5h后两组ThN均显著增加(爱丽组5.57±7.00μm,t=4.906,P0.05);爱丽组共有32眼(84%)角膜厚度增加,而倍然组33眼(87%)角膜厚度增加。结论:对生产工艺要求相对严格的人工泪液能短时间内显著增加近视眼角膜厚度,角膜厚度的变化可作为评估人工泪液等眼药制剂舒适度的客观指标之一。

Redox therapeutics in hepatic ischemia reperfusion injury

Ischemia-reperfusion plays a major role in the injury experienced by the liver during transplantation. Much work has been done recently investigating the role of redox species in hepatic ischemia-reperfusion. As animal models are better characterized and developed, and more insights are gained into the pathophysiology of hepatic ischemia reperfusion injury in humans the questions into exactly how oxidants participate in this injury are becoming more refined. These questions include effects of cellular location, timing of injury, and ability of therapeutics to access this site are increasing our appreciation of the complexity of ischemia reperfusion and improving attempts to ameliorate its effects. In this review, we aim to discuss the various methods to alter redox chemistry during ischemia reperfusion injury and future prospects for preventing organ injury during hepatic ischemia reperfusion.

An empirical study of DSRC V2V performance in truck platooning scenarios

Among many safety applications enabled by Dedicated Short Range Communication （DSRC）, truck platooning provides many incentives to commercial companies. This paper studies DSRC Vehicle-to-Vehicle （V2V） performance in truck platooning scenarios through real-world experiments. Commercial DSRC equipments and semi-trailer trucks are used in this study. We mount one DSRC antenna on each side of the truck. One set of dynamic tests and a few sets of static tests are conducted to explore DSRC behaviors under different situations. From the test results, we verified some of our speculations. For example, hilly roads can affect delivery ratio and antennas mounted on opposite sides of a truck can suffer from low delivery ratio at curved roads. In addition, we also found that antennas can sometimes suffer from low delivery ratio even when the trucks are on straight roads, possibly due to reflections from the nearby terrain. Fortunately, the delivery ratio can be greatly improved by using the two side antennas alternately.

In order to compete in the global manufacturing mar ke t, agility is the only possible solution to response to the fragmented market se gments and frequently changed customer requirements. however, manufacturing agil ity can only be attained through the deployment of knowledge. To embed knowledge into a CAD system to form a knowledge intensive CAD (kIC) system is one of way to enhance the design compatibility of a manufacturing company. The most difficu lt phase to develop a kIC system is to capitalize a huge amount of legacy data t o form a knowledge database. In the past, such capitalization process could only be done solely manually or semi-automatic. In this paper, a five step model fo r automatic design knowledge capitalization through the use of data mining is pr oposed whilst details of how to select, verify and performance benchmarking an a ppropriate data mining algorithm for a specific design task will also be discuss ed. A case study concerning the design of a plastic toaster casing was used as an illustration for the proposed methodology and it was found that the avera ge absolute error of the predictions for the most appropriate algorithm is withi n 17%.
