This study uses geographic Information System (GIS) techniques to spatially geocode the affected toxic site areas in Louisiana and use the results to help policy-makers plan for removal. Data for this study was acquired from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) website including names and locations of National Priorities List (NPL). Also, publicly available EPA database that contains information on toxic chemical releases and other waste management activities reported annually by regulated industry groups and federal facilities was acquired. Data obtained from EPA website was converted to geographic co-ordinates (latitude and longitude). Results showed geocoded toxic wastes maps in Louisiana. Results also revealed that most of the toxic sites were clustered around major waterways in both southern and northern Louisiana. Policy recommendations include strict enforcement of the State laws that deal with fracking and flaring, use of emission inventories and air quality reports to assist policy makers in developing cost-effective emission control strategies that are necessary for tracking the progress of policies towards gas emissions reduction and finally, the need to increase funding for the clean-up of the chemical waste.

This paper seeks to identify high risk areas that are prone to flooding, caused by sea level rise because of high impacts of global climate change resulting from global warming and human settlements in low-lying coastal elevation areas in Louisiana, and model and understand the ramifications of predicted sea-level rise. To accomplish these objectives, the study made use of accessible public datasets to assess the potential risk faced by residents of coastal lowlands of Southern Louisiana in the United States. Elevation data was obtained from the Louisiana Statewide Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) with resolution of 16.4 feet (5 m) distributed by Atlas. The data was downloaded from Atlas website and imported into Environmental Systems Research Institute’s (ESRI’s) ArcMap software to create a single mosaic elevation image map of the study area. After mosaicking the elevation data in ArcMap, Spatial Analyst extension software was used to classify areas with low and high elevation. Also, data was derived from United States Geological Survey (USGS) Digital Elevation Model (DEM) and absolute sea level rise data covering the period 1880 to 2015 was acquired from United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) website. In addition, population data from U.S. Census Bureau was obtained and coupled with elevation data for assessing the risks of the population residing in low lying areas. Models of population trend and cumulative sea level rise were developed using statistical methods and software were applied to reveal the national trends and local deviations from the trends. The trends of population changes with respect to sea level rise and time in years were modeled for the low land coastal parishes of Louisiana. The expected years for the populations in the study area to be at risk due to rising sea level were estimated by models. The study aimed to assess the potential of using Remote Sensing (RS) da-ta to evaluate the changes of urban green spaces in Lagos, Nigeria. Land-sat Thematic Mapper and Landsat 8 (Operational Land Imager) data pair of May 4, 1986, December 12, 2002 and January 1, 2019 covering Lagos Government Authority (LGA) were used for this study. Supervised image classification technique using Maximum Likelihood Classifier (MLC) was used to create base map which was then used for ground truthing. Ran-dom Forest (RF) classification technique using RF classifier was utilized in this study to generate the final land use land cover map. RF is an en-semble learning method for classification that operates by constructing a multitude of decision trees at training time and outputting the class that is the mode of the classes (classification). Lagos census population data was also used in this study to model population projection. Extrapolation of the model was used to predict data for the years, 2020 and 2040. Re-sults of the study revealed a reduction of urban green spaces due to agri-culture and settlement. While the remote mapping revealed the gradual dispersion of ecosystem degradation indicators spread across the state, there exists clusters of areas vulnerable to environmental hazards across Lagos. To mitigate these risks, the paper offered recommendations rang-ing from the need for effective policy to green planning education for city managers, developers and risk assessment. These measures will go a long way in helping sustainability and management of land resources in Lagos.

Background:Cervical ripening is an important factor in predicting successful labor *** an unfavorable cervix,ripening should be done before *** this study,the effect of misoprostol and that of misoprostol plus estradiol on cervical ripening were ***:This randomized,double-blinded study included a total of 190 pregnant women who were identified for pregnancy termination due to maternal or fetal cause at 37 weeks with Bishop score of less than *** patients were assessed between April 2015 to April 2016 in two university hospitals at northeast Iran(Omol-Banin Hospital and Emam Reza Hospital,Mashhad).The patients who met the inclusion criteria were randomly assigned to two groups:the intervention group(Group A),who received 25 micrograms of vaginal misoprostol plus 50 micrograms of estradiol,and the control group(Group B),who received 25 micrograms of vaginal misoprostol *** was administered at 4-hour intervals until cervical ripening(Bishop score≥8)or upon initiation of active phase in both the *** maximum dosage of misoprostol was three doses,whereas estradiol was administered only ***:In this study,the main causes of pregnancy termination were ROM and *** was no significant statistical difference in the Bishop score between the two groups(P=0.13).In addition,no significant difference was observed in the duration of time for cervical ripening(Bishop≥8)between the two groups(P=0.7).The duration between drug administration to the initiation of active phase and also from active phase to delivery showed no significant differences between the two groups(P=0.49 and 0.24,respectively).There was also no significant difference in the delivery route(operative vaginal delivery or Cesarean section)(P=0.2 and P=0.91,respectively).Conclusion:From this study,the use of misoprostol plus estradiol did not improve cervical ripening or decrease the induction *** studies are recommended to investigate comp

AIM: To study the combinative effects of nanocerium and selenium in a murine model of diabetes. METHODS: Cerium oxide (CeO2) nanoparticles (60 mg/kg per day) and sodium selenite (5 μmol/kg per day) aloneor in combination, or the metal form of CeO2 (60 mg/kg) were administered for 2 wk by intraperitoneal injection to streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. At the end of treatment blood was collected, liver tissue dissected and then oxidative stress markers, extent of energy depletion and lipid prof ile were ***: Antioxidant enzymes and high density lipoprotein decreased whereas oxidative stress, adenosine diphosphate/adenosine triphospahte levels, cholesterol, triglyceride and low density lipoprotein increased on induction of diabetes. All were improved by a combination of nanocerium and sodium selenite. There was a relative amelioration by CeO2 nanoparticles or sodium selenite alone, but the metal form of CeO2 showed no signif icant improvement. CONCLUSION: The combination of nanocerium and sodium selenite is more effective than either alone in improving diabetes-induced oxidative stress.

试验旨在研究肉鸡早期饲粮类型和饲料形态对性能、表观代谢能(AME)和氮(N)、淀粉、钙(Ca)磷(P)的回肠表观消化率(CIAD)的影响。采用两种谷物类型和3种饲料形态(粉料、颗粒料和破碎料)的2×3因子试验设计。采用玉米、小麦两种类型饲料,与粉料和破碎料相比,颗粒料的体增重和采食量显著提高(P0.05),但都低于破碎料(P0.05),但与粉料相比,破碎料有更高的N消化率;饲料形态对淀粉的CIAD无显著影响(P>0.05)。与粉料相比,破碎料脂肪的CIAD提高,且以玉米味基础饲粮的颗粒料脂肪的CIAD显著提高(P<0.05)。同时,在玉米行日粮中制粒增加了Ca和P的CIAD(P<0.05),且破碎料的消化率进一步提高。在小麦日粮中,制粒降低了N的CIAD,破碎料N的CIAD最高(P<0.05);制粒也降低了淀粉的消化率(P<0.05)。同时制粒也降低了小麦型日粮中脂肪、Ca和P的CIAD,与粉料相比,破碎料的脂肪、Ca和P的消化率进一步提高。饲料形态对玉米型日粮的AME无显著影响(P<0.05),但制粒会降低小麦型日粮的AME。研究发现,饲粮形态对营养物质CIAD的影响取决于使用的谷物和营养成分。玉米为基础的饲粮,制粒对养分的CIAD无负面作用。但以小麦为主的饲粮,饲喂颗粒料对所有营养物质的消化率均有负面影响。然而,饲喂颗粒料可以通过增加采食量来增加营养物质摄入量来提高补偿营养消化率低的影响。
