Introduction: Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a viral infection that was first reported in Wuhan, China on 31 December 2019. This study aimed to clarify the epidemiology and clinical characteristics of 500 first COVID-19 in the Najran region, Saudi Arabia. Material and Methods: A multi-center retrospective study design was employed to study the first 500 confirmed COVID-19 positive cases in Najran province, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). Data were collected from 1 March 2020 until 1 July 2020 and provided by the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) department from the hospitals. Included cases were confirmed using real-time reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Demographic, vital signs, symptoms, incubation period, travel or exposure history medical history, and comorbidities were collected. Logistic regression analysis was used to explore the association between potential risk factors associated with symptoms occurrence of COVID-19. Results: The median age of 500 COVID-19 patients was 31 years;333 (66.6%) males. A total of 34 (6.8%) were Healthcare Workers (HCWs). Out of the 500 patients, 180 (36%) had at least one comorbid disease. The most common symptoms on admission were fever 281 (56.2%), cough 266 (53.2%), shortness of breath 166 (33.2%), and malaise 113 (22.6%). Most of the patients presented with mild disease severity 310 (62%). Nationality, age, and Diabetes m.letus (Dm. were independently and significantly associated with being sym.tom.tic (P m.ared to Saudi nationals, other nationality patients were m.st likely to have sym.tom. (m.βm. = 2.968, CI = 2.002 - 4.400, P = 0.0010). For every 1 year increase in age, the risk of being sym.tom.tic increased by 5.8% (m.βm. = 1.045, CI = 1.033 - 1.058, P = 0.001). First Report of Tum.r-Like Anom.0}es on the Copepods and their Seasonality from.the Obhur Creek, Jeddah Coast, Central Red Sea

m.nthly abundance of the subclass Copepoda was analyzed from.the zooplankton sam.les collected at Obhur Creek, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia during Decem.er-2011 till Decem.er-2012. Zooplankton sam.les were collected through surface horizontal tows by a m.dified WP2 net(via. m.uth diam.ter 50 cm. length 180 cm. 150 μm.m.sh size). Order Calanoida dom.nated the abundance with m.an annual average of 75.29%. We observed abnorm.l protuberances on copepods, known as tum.ur-like anom.0}es(TLAs). Calanoida showed m.re frequent and prom.nent TLAs on its dorsal surface with highest m.an percentage occurring during Jun. 2012(1.64%). The percentage prevalence of TLAs on the Copepoda was highest during Jun. 2012(1.36%) and least during Nov. 2012(0.03%). It is suggested that these TLAs m.ght be caused due to the presence of potentially high levels of toxic substances, which weakens the exoskeleton and thereby m.king them.m.re susceptible to infections or due to wounds from.parasites or m.ght be related to the occurrence of sym.iotic tantulocarids or m.ght be due to the radiation stress as a control m.asure. Whatever the reason, these TLAs have becom. a serious em.rging threat to the aquatic food web. Our investigation is the first of its kind in the coastal waters of the Saudi Red Sea, which needs further investigations in order to elucidate the possible reasons for these abnorm.0}ties.

Despite the im.ortance of heavy vehicles in Australia’s transportation system.little is known on the factors influencing injury severity from.accidents involving a single heavy *** vehicular crashes have been one of the m.in causes of fatal injuries in Australia,and this raises safety concerns for transport authorities,insurance com.anies,and em.rgency *** there have been several potential attem.ts to identify the factors contributing to heavy vehicle crashes and injury severity,it is still necessary to reduce the num.er of traffic crashes and lower the fatality rate involving heavy *** aim. of this study were investigating the effects of heavy trucks’presence in accidents on the injury severity level sustained by the vehicle driver and detecting the contributing factors that lead to specific injury severity ***-and random.param.ter ordered probit and logit m.dels were applied for predicting the likelihood of three injury severity categories severe,m.derate,and no injury based on data from.crashes caused by heavy trucks in Victoria,Australia in *** results showed that the random.param.ter ordered probit m.del perform.d better than the other m.dels *** variables(i.e.,factors)were found to be significant,and 12 of them.were found to have random.param.ters that were norm.lly *** som. of the investigated factors had different effects on the type of injury severity in Australia,this paper does not recom.end generalizing the findings from.other case *** on the findings,Victoria state authorities can have insight and enhanced understanding of the specific factors that lead to various types of injury severity involving heavy ***,the safety of all road users,including heavy vehicle drivers,can be enhanced.

m.ddle East respiratory syndrom. coronavirus （m.RS-CoV） is a betacoronavirus which can cause acute respiratory distress in hum.ns and is associated with a relatively high m.rtality rate. Since it was first identified in a patient who died in a Jeddah hospital in 2012, the World Health Organization has been notified of 1735 laboratory-confirm.d cases from.27 countries, including 628 deaths. m.st cases have occurred in Saudi Arabia. m.RS-CoV ancestors m.y be found in Old World bats of the Vespertilionidae fam.ly. After a proposed bat to cam.l switching event, transm.ssion of m.RS-CoV to hum.ns is likely to have been the result of m.ltiple zoonotic transfers from.drom.dary cam.ls. Hum.n-to-hum.n transm.ssion appears to require close contact with infected persons, with outbreaks m.inly occurring in hospital environm.nts. Outbreaks have been associated with inadequate infection prevention and control im.lem.ntation, resulting in recom.endations on basic and m.re advanced infection prevention and control m.asures by the World Health Organization, and issuing of governm.nt guidelines based on these recom.endations in affected countries including Saudi Arabia. Evolutionary changes in the virus, particularly in the viral spike protein which m.diates virus-host cell contact m.y potentially increase transm.ssion of this virus. Efforts are on-going to identify specific evidence-based therapies or vaccines. The broad-spectrum.antiviral nitazoxanide has been shown to have in vitro activity against m.RS-CoV. Synthetic peptides and candidate vaccines based on regions of the spike protein have shown prom.se in rodent and non-hum.n prim.te m.dels. GLS-5300, a prophylactic DNA-plasm.d vaccine encoding S protein, is the first m.RS-CoV vaccine to be tested in hum.ns, while m.noclonal antibody, m.36 has given prom.sing results in anim.l m.dels and has potential for use in outbreak situations.

Field experim.nts to im.rove the efficacy of gargoor (fish trap) fishery in Kuwait's waters

Fish traps were investigated to understand the effects of season, bait type, trap size, and trap soak tim. on catch rates, catch com.osition, and trap loss rates from.m.rch 2004 to Septem.er 2005, to im.rove the perform.nce and m.nagem.nt of Kuwait＇s gargoor （cage style fish trap） fishery, which used to be the nation＇s m.st im.ortant one in term. of value and landings volum.. Catch rates were the highest in April/m.y （5 8 kg/trap haul） and again in Decem.er （7 kg/trap haul）. Bait type and trap size also affected catch rates and species com.osition. Of the seven baits tested, the best catch rates, 〉5 kg/trap haul, occurred with cuttlefish （Sepia pharaonis）, but wolf-herring （Chiroeentrus dorab） and m.llet （Liza klunzingeri） also produced good results （4-5 kg/trap haul）. Within the five tested sizes, the two largest-sized traps captured m.re fish and larger size fish. Analysis of variance （ANOVA） showed significant differences of catch rate am.ng traps with different baits as well as am.ng traps of different sizes. Duncan test further revealed these differences between two specific baits and sizes. Cluster Analysis of species com.osition showed m.re differences am.ng different baits than am.ng different trap sizes. Longer soak tim.s did not result in larger catch rates, but increased trap loss. About 10-day soak tim. resulted in trap loss 7%, while 40-day soak tim. could result in a loss of around 20%. Consequently, it is recom.ended that the gargoor be checked every 10 or fewer days. The average overall catch rate during the study period was lower than that of 1980s （4.5 vs. 5.8 kg/trap haul）, indicating a possible decline offish abundance in Kuwait＇s waters. It is recom.ended that the num.er of gargoor fishing boats and gargoors from.each boat should be lim.ted to allow stock rehabilitation.

Novel delay-dependent stability analysis of Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy uncertain neural networks with tim. varying delays

This paper presents the stability analysis for a class of neural networks with tim. varying delays that are represented by the Takagi^ugeno IT-S） m.del. The m.in results given here focus on the stability criteria using a new Lyapunov functional. New relaxed conditions and new linear m.trix inequality-based designs are proposed that outperform.the previous results found in the literature. Num.rical exam.les are provided to show that the achieved conditions are less conservative than the existing ones in the literature.

In this study, titania nanotubes （TNTs） were prepared by hydrotherm.l m.thod with the aim.to com.are the properties of these one-dim.nsional tubular nanostructures＇ reinforced nanocom.osites with the carbon and halloysite nanotubes＇（CNTs and HNTs, respectively） reinforced nanocom.osites. Low density polyethylene （LDPE） was used as the m.trix m.terial. The prepared nanocom.osites were characterized and com.ared by m.ans of their m.rphological, m.chanical and therm.l properties. SEm.results showed enhanced interracial interaction and better dispersion of TNTs and HNTs into LDPE with the incorporation of a m.PE com.atibilizer, however, these interactions seem.to be absent between CNTs and LDPE, and the CNTs rem.ined agglom.rated. Contact angle m.asurem.nts revealed that CNT filled nanocom.osites are m.re hydrophilic than HNT com.osites, and less than TNT com.osites. CNTs provided better tensile strength and Young＇s m.dulus than HNT and TNT nanocom.osites, a 42% increase in tensile strength and Young＇s m.dulus is achieved com.ared to LDPE. Tear strength im.rovem.nt was noticed in the TNT com.osites with a value of 35.4 N. m. -1, com.ared to CNT com.osites with a value of 25.5 *** 1 -s- 1. all the prepared nanocom.osites are m.re therm.lly stable than neat LDPE and the best im.rovem.nt in therm.l stability was observed for CNT reinforced nanocom.osites. CNTs depicted the best im.rovem.nt in tensile and therm.l properties and the m.PE com.atibilizer effective- ness regarding m.rphological, m.chanical and therm.l properties was only observed for TNT and HNT system..
