Hepatitis C virus nS5A region mutation in chronic hepatitis C genotype 1 patients who are non-responders to two or more treatments and its relationship with response to a new treatment

To determine the number of mutations in the nS5A region of the hepatitis C virus (HCV) and its relationship to the response to antiviral therapy in patients with chronic hepatitis C genotype 1 who are non-responders to two or more treatments. METHODSSequences within HCV nS5A [PKR binding domain (PKRBD) and the interferon-sensitivity-determining region (ISDR)] were analysed via direct sequencing in a selected cohort of 72 patients, with a total of 201 treatments [interferon-alpha (IFn-α), n = 49; IFn-α + ribavirin (RBV), n = 75; pegylated (peg) IFn-α + RBV, n = 47; first-generation direct-acting antivirals (DAAs), n = 13; and second-generation DAAs, n = 17]. Of these, 48/201 achieved a sustained virological response (SVR) and 153/201 achieved no virological response (nVR). RESULTSFor both regions, treatments resulting in SVR were associated with more baseline mutations than were treatments resulting in nVR (SVR vs nVR; PKRBD: 5.82 ± 3 vs 4.86 ± 2 mutations, P = 0.045; ISDR: 2.65 ± 2 vs 1.51 ± 1.7 mutations, P = 0.005). A decrease or no change in the number of mutations over time between treatments in the PKRBD or ISDR, as shown by sequencing, was associated with patients who usually failed to respond to treatment (PKRBD, P = 0.02; ISDR, P = 0.001). Moreover, patients showing a post-treatment baseline viral load > 600000 IU/mL and increased ISDR mutations with respect to the previous treatment were 9.21 times more likely to achieve SVR (P = 0.001). COnCLUSIOnThe obtained results show that among patients who have shown no response to two or more antiviral treatments, the likelihood of achieving SVR increases with the genetic variability in the ISDR region (≥ 2 mutations or number of substitutions from the HCV-J and HCV-1 prototype), especially when the viral load is greater than 600000 IU/mL.

Beneﬁcial microbes can improve soil health by promoting soil structure,nutrient cycling,and disease *** addition,a wide array of rhizospheric microbes are responsible for producing metabolically active compounds including various types of plant growth ***,microbial biodiversity studies could contribute to the improvement of agricultural practices in deprived areas,such as the Pampean semiarid *** vast majority of studies conducted on endophytic microorganisms have focused on intensive crop legume *** contrast,little attention has been paid to microorganisms of native legumes,whose ecology is not directly affected by human *** this study,endophytic microorganisms isolated from root nodules of a selected native legume of the genus Rhynchosia were *** isolates were studied with a focus on their plant growth-pro-moting rhizobacteria(PGPR)*** the edaphic characteristics of the Pampean semiarid region,the isolates obtained were evaluated for their ability to grow under three salt stress conditions(50,100,and 200 mM naCl)and four different pH values(6,7,8,and 9).Based on their PGPR activities,the selected strains were phylogenetically grouped using *** results showed great variability among the isolates in terms of the characteristics *** legumes manifested a wide endophytic variability and remarkable perfor-mance in PGPR *** conclude that they could be used as potential bioinoculants for legume cultivation,an excellent alternative to the use of chemical fertilizers that currently pollute the environment.

Cirrhotic cardiomyopathy

During the course of cirrhosis, there is a progressive deterioration of cardiac function manifested by the disappearance of the hyperdynamic circulation due to afailure in heart function with decreased cardiac output. This is due to a deterioration in inotropic and chronotropic function which takes place in parallel with a diastolic dysfunction and cardiac hypertrophy in the absence of other known cardiac disease. Other findings of this specific cardiomyopathy include impaired contractile responsiveness to stress stimuli and electrophysiological abnormalities with prolonged QT interval. The pathogenic mechanisms of cirrhotic cardiomyopathy include impairment of the b-adrenergic receptor signalling, abnormal cardiomyocyte membrane lipid composition and biophysical properties, ion channel defects and overactivity of humoral cardiodepressant factors. Cirrhotic cardiomyopathy may be difficult to determine due to the lack of a specific diagnosis test. However, an echocardiogram allows the detection of the diastolic dysfunction and the E/e′ ratio may be used in the followup progression of the illness. Cirrhotic cardiomyopathy plays an important role in the pathogenesis of the impairment of effective arterial blood volume and correlates with the degree of liver failure. A clinical consequence of cardiac dysfunction is an inadequate cardiac response in the setting of vascular stress that may result in renal hypoperfusion leading to renal failure. The prognosis is difficult to establish but the severity of diastolic dysfunction may be a marker of mortality risk. Treatment is non-specific and liver transplantation may normalize the cardiac function.

Shear-horizontal waves in periodic layered nanostructure with both nonlocal and interface effects

The propagation of shear-horizontal(SH)waves in the periodic layered nanocomposite is investigated by using both the nonlocal integral model and the nonlocal differential model with the interface *** on the transfer matrix method and the Bloch theory,the band structures for SH waves with both vertical and oblique incidences to the structure are *** is found that by choosing appropriate interface parameters,the dispersion curves predicted by the nonlocal differential model with the interface effect can be tuned to be the same as those based on the nonlocal integral ***,by propagating the SH waves vertically and obliquely to the periodic layered nanostructure,we could invert,respectively,the interface mass density and the interface shear modulus,by matching the dispersion *** are further shown on how to determine the interface mass density and the interface shear modulus in theory.

Branching Ratios from H→γγ and H→zγ with a 125 GeV Higgs Boson

Motivated by the recent result reported from LHC on the di-photon search from the Standard Model (SM) Higgs boson, we obtain limits on the anomalous couplings Hγγ and Hzγ. We also perform a calculation at tree level of the decay widths as well as of the branching ratios for the reactions H → γγ and H → zγ in the context of effective lagrangian for Higgs boson masses 115 ≤MH ≤ 130 GeV. We find that the decay widths and branching ratios from these reactions enhanced significantly due to the anomalous Hγγ and Hzγ vertex, which would lead to measurable effects in Higgs signals at the LHC. Moreover, our results complement other studies on the channels H → γγ and H → zγ.

目的探究体育运动对医学院校大学生心理健康的影响,为医学院校学生心理健康发展提供指导。方法采用随机抽样法,选取医学院校136名大学生作为研究对象,进行8周运动训练,以快走、慢跑等有氧运动为主。运动前后采用一般健康问卷(GHQ-20)对学生的心理健康水平进行测量。结果相比运动前,运动后学生忧郁、焦虑水平下降,自我肯定程度提高,心理健康状况显著改善。结论运动对大学生心理健康具有良好的干预效果,学校应进一步加强宣传教育,让学生充分认识到运动对身心健康的重要作用,将运动作为提升心理健康水平的重要手段之一。

Carbon dots(CDs)possess outstanding luminescence properties,making them widely used in optical displays,anti-counterfeiting systems,bioimaging,and ***,there is much debate about the classification of CDs,as well as their formation process,structure,and fluorescence *** plays an important role in the formation and fluorescence(e.g.,aggregationinduced emission)of CDs,yet is seldom studied in *** review aims fill this knowledge gap,by first exploring how aggregation leads to the formation of different types of CDs(e.g.,graphene quantum dots,carbon quantum dots,and carbonized polymer dots),followed by a detailed examination of the effect of aggregation-induced morphology on the luminescence properties and application of ***,opportunities and challenges for the application of CDs in various applications are discussed,with the need for better mechanistic understanding of aggregation-induced luminescence being an imperative.
