The Message Passing Interface (MPI) is a widely accepted standard for parallel computing on distributed ***, MPI implementations can contain defects that impact the reliability and performance of parallelapplications. Detecting and correcting these defects is crucial, yet there is a lack of published models specificallydesigned for correctingMPI defects. To address this, we propose a model for detecting and correcting MPI defects(DC_MPI), which aims to detect and correct defects in various types of MPI communication, including blockingpoint-to-point (BPTP), nonblocking point-to-point (NBPTP), and collective communication (CC). The defectsaddressed by the DC_MPI model include illegal MPI calls, deadlocks (DL), race conditions (RC), and messagemismatches (MM). To assess the effectiveness of the DC_MPI model, we performed experiments on a datasetconsisting of 40 MPI codes. The results indicate that the model achieved a detection rate of 37 out of 40 codes,resulting in an overall detection accuracy of 92.5%. Additionally, the execution duration of the DC_MPI modelranged from 0.81 to 1.36 s. These findings show that the DC_MPI model is useful in detecting and correctingdefects in MPI implementations, thereby enhancing the reliability and performance of parallel applications. TheDC_MPImodel fills an important research gap and provides a valuable tool for improving the quality ofMPI-basedparallel computing systems.

AIM To evaluate the safety and efficacy of intragastric balloon(IGB) in weight reduction in obese patients referred to a tertiary hospital in the Kingdom of saudi *** Three hundred and one consecutive obese individuals, who underwent IGB placement during January 2009 to May 2015, were analyzed. The subjects aged 18 to 60 years and had a minimum body mass index(BMI) of 27 kg/m^2. The IGB was placed under conscious sedation and kept for 6 mo. Anthropometric measurements were recorded during and after 6 mo of IGB *** The body weight, excess body weight, and BMI were significantly reduced at the time of IGB removal and 6 mo later. Body weight loss > 10% was achieved in 224 subjects at removal of IGB. End of treatment success and long-term success were both significantly observed in women(70 vs 11)(71 vs 12.5) respectively. Excess BMI loss was significantly higher in subjects retaining the IGB for over 6 mo both at the removal [43.44 ± 19.46(n = 221) vs 55.60 ± 28.69(n = 80); t = 4.19, P = 0.0001] as well as at the end of 6 mo' follow-up [46.57 ± 24.89(n = 221) vs 63.52 ± 31.08(n = 80); t = 4.87, P = 0.0001]. Within 3 d of IGB placement, two subjects developed pancreatitis and one subject developed cardiac arrhythmia. Intestinal obstruction due to displacement of IGB occurred in two subjects. allthese subjects recovered uneventfully after immediate removal of the IGB. CONCLUsION IGB was effective in our cohorts. The observed weight reduction was maintained for at least 6 mo post IGB removal. IGB placement was safe with a satisfactory tolerance rate.

AIM:To study the association of apolipoprotein E(APOE) polymorphisms with the susceptibility ofinflammatory bowel disease(IBD) in saudi ***:APOE genotyping was performed to evaluate the allele and genotype frequencies in 378 saudi subjects including IBD patients with ulcerative colitis(n = 84) or Crohn's disease(n = 94) and matched controls(n = 200) using polymerase chain reaction and reverse-hybridization ***:The frequencies of the APOE ε2 allele and ε2/ε3 and ε2/ε4 genotypes were significantly higher in IBD patients than in controls(P suggesting that the ε2 allele and its heterozygous genotypes may increase the susceptibility to *** the contrary,the frequencies of the ε3 allele and ε3/ε3 genotype were lower in IBD patients as compared to controls,suggesting a protective effect of APOE ε3 for *** prevalence of the ε4 allele was also higher in the patient group compared to controls,suggesting that the ε4 allele may also increase the risk of *** results also indicated that the APOE ε4 allele was associated with an early age of IBD *** effect of gender or type of IBD(familial or sporadic) on the frequency distribution of APOE alleles and genotypes was noticed in this ***:APOE polymorphism is associated with risk of developing IBD and early age of onset in saudi patients,though further studies with a large-size population are warranted.

Pleural effusion usually causes a diagnostic dilemma with a long list of differential *** studies found a high prevalence of pleural effusions in critically ill and mechanically ventilated patients,with a wide range of variable prevalence rates of up to 50%-60%in some *** review emphasizes the importance of pleural effusion diagnosis and management in patients admitted to the intensive care unit(ICU).The original disease that caused pleural effusion can be the exact cause of ICU *** is an impairment in the pleural fluid turnover and cycling in critically ill and mechanically ventilated *** are also many difficulties in diagnosing pleural effusion in the ICU,including clinical,radiological,and even laboratory *** difficulties are due to unusual presentation,inability to undergo some diagnostic procedures,and heterogenous results of some of the performed *** effusion can affect the patient’s outcome and prognosis due to the hemodynamics and lung mechanics changes in these patients,who usually have frequent ***,pleural effusion drainage can modify the ICUadmitted patient’s ***,pleural effusion analysis can change the original diagnosis in some cases and redirect the management toward a different way.
