Remote sensing of bark beetle damage in Norway spruce individual tree canopies using thermal infrared and airborne laser scanning data fusion

Background:Increasing threat to Central Europe’s forests from the growing population of the European spruce bark beetle Ips typographus (L.) calls for developing highly effective methods of detection of the infestation spots. The main goal of this study was to establish an automatic workflow for detection of dead trees and trees in poor condition of Picea abies using Middle Wave Infrared spectral range obtained from the ***:The studies were conducted in Wigry National Park (Poland) in 2020. A fusion of aircraft thermal data and laser scanning was used. Synchronous with thermal data acquisition ground reference data were obtained for P. abies in different health conditions. Determination of the range of canopy temperatures characteristic of the three condition states (‘healthy’,‘poor condition’,‘dead’) was performed using K-mean clustering. The accuracy of the method was evaluated on two validation sets:(1) individual tree canopies determined by photointerpretation, and (2) automatic segmentation of laser scanning ***:The results showed that the average temperature of ‘healthy’trees was 27.70℃, trees in ‘poor condition’28.57℃, and ‘dead’trees 30.17℃. High temperature differences between ‘healthy’and ‘dead’P. abies made it possible to distinguish these two condition classes with high accuracy. Lower accuracies were obtained for the class of ‘poor condition’, which was found to be confusing with both ‘healthy’and ‘dead’trees. According to results from the first validation set, a high overall accuracy of 0.60 was obtained. For the second validation set, the overall accuracy was reduced by 11%.Conclusions:This study indicates that canopy temperature recorded from the airborne level is a variable that differentiates ‘healthy’spruces from those in ‘poor condition’and the ‘dead’trees. Effect of 5-HT1 agonist (sumatriptan) on anorectal function in irritable bowel syndrome patients

AIM： To evaluate the effect of sumatriptan, a selective 5-HT1 agonist, on anorectal function in irritable bowel syndrome （IBS） patients. METHODS： Twenty-two IBS patients selected according to the Rome II criteria （F 15, M 7; mean age 29.3±6.8, range 22-44 years） were examined. The study was blind, randomized and placebo-controlled with a crossover design. Anorectal manometry and rectal balloon distension test were performed before and after the administration of placebo and sumatriptan. RESULTS： The administration of sumatriptan caused a significant increase in the resting anal canal pressure from 9.2±2.0 kPa to 13.1±3.3 kPa （P〈0.0001） connected with the increase in the anal sphincter length and high pressure zone. After sumatriptan injection a remarkable increase in the threshold for the first sensation from 27±9 mL to 34±12 mL （P〈0.05） and urge sensation from 61±19 mL to 68±18 mL （P〈0.01） was observed. Sumatriptan did not affect either the volume evoking the rectoanal inhibitory reflex or the results of the straining test. CONCLUSION： 5-HT1 receptors participate in the regulation of anorectal function. Elucidation of the role of 5-HT1 receptors in the pathophysiological mechanisms of IBS may have some therapeutic implications.

Impact of corneal parameters on intraocular pressure measurements in different tonometry methods

AIM: To evaluate the impact of central corneal thickness(CCT) and corneal curvature on intraocular pressure(IOP) measurements performed by three different tonometers. METHODS: IOP in 132 healthy eyes of 66 participants was measured using three different tonometry techniques: Goldmann applanation tonometer(GAT), Pascal dynamic contour tonometer(DCT), and ICare rebound tonometer(RT). CCT and corneal curvature were assessed. RESULTS: In healthy eyes, DCT presents significantly higher values of IOP than GAT(17.34±3.69 and 15.27±4.06 mm Hg, P<0.0001). RT measurements are significantly lower than GAT(13.56±4.33 mm Hg, P<0.0001). Compared with GAT, DCT presented on average 2.51 mm Hg higher values in eyes with CCT<600 μm and 0.99 mm Hg higher results in eyes with CCT≥600 μm. The RT results were lower on average by 1.61 and 1.95 mm Hg than those obtained by GAT, respectively. Positive correlations between CCT in eyes with CCT<600 μm were detected for all IOP measurement techniques, whereas a similar relationship was not observed in eyes with thicker corneas. A correlation between IOP values and keratometry in the group with CCT<600 μm was not detected with any of the tonometry methods. In thicker corneas, a positive correlation was found for GAT and mean keratometry values(R=0.369, P=0.005). CONCLUSION: The same method should always be chosen for routine IOP control, and measurements obtained by different methods cannot be compared. All analysed tonometry methods are dependent on CCT;thus, CCT should be taken into consideration for both diagnostics and monitoring.

Synthesis, structural and spectroscopic studies on GdBO_3:Yb^(3+)/Tb^(3+)@SiO_2 core-shell nanostructures

The presented study concerned up-converting core/shell type nanomaterials based on lanthanide（Ⅲ） ions, Ln（Ⅲ）, doped orthoborates. The system studied composed of the GdBO3 doped with Yb^3＋/Tb^3＋ luminescent core ensured an effective cooperative sensitization up-conversion, resulting in a bright green luminescence. The silica coating process was performed by a modified St？ber method, which resulted in the formation of core-shell nanostructures, making them suitable for bioapplications. The nanophosphors and nanocomposites were obtained by various methods, such as co-precipitation in the presence of Triton X-100 and micelle synthesis with ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid（EDTA） as organic modifiers/surfactants. The synthesized nanomaterials were characterized with the use of powder X-ray diffraction（XRD）, infrared light absorption with Fourier transform FT-IR spectra, transmission electron microscopy（TEM）, up-conversion emission spectra under IR light, as well as excitation spectra, emission spectra and fluorescence lifetimes under UV light, and their photophysical properties were compared.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2(SARS-CoV-2)has undoubtedly revolutionized the whole globe and given a new point of view on respiratory tract ***,coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)cannot be perceived as a disease limited only to pneumonia with diverse *** and more reports have demonstrated a wide range of possible systemic symptoms,including hepatic *** injury has been observed in a significant proportion of patients,especially in those with a severe or critical ***-19 might provoke a deterioration of liver function in patients with already diagnosed chronic liver diseases and without pre-existing liver *** deterioration of liver function worsens the prognosis,increases the risk of a severe course of SARS-CoV-2 infection and prolongs the hospital *** general,patients who develop liver dysfunction in COVID-19 are mainly males,elderly people,and those with higher body mass *** underlying mechanisms for hepatic failure in patients infected with SARS-CoV-2 are still unclear,nevertheless liver damage appears to be directly connected with virus-induced cytopathic effects.A liver injury observed during hospitalization might be simultaneously caused by the use of potentially hepatotoxic drugs,mainly antiviral *** minireview focuses on a possible relationship between COVID-19 and the liver,potential molecular mechanisms of liver damage,the characteristics of liver injury and suggested factors predisposing to hepatic manifestations in COVID-19 patients.
