In this work the influence of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) on mechanical properties was evaluated also the osteoinduction mechanism in Chitosan/MWCNT composite is reported. The morphology and the mechanical properties of the scaffolds were controlled by varying solvent ratios, quenching temperatures and carbon nanotubes concentration. In vitro cell culture of Sprague-Dawley rat’s osteoblasts was used to evaluate the phenotype expression of cells in the scaffolds. The presence of MWCNT in a chitosan matrix improving its mechanical properties and sustain osteoblast growth and differentiation that represent a potential application of the Chitosan/MWCNT as biomaterial for bone tissue engineering.

Quality audit of colonoscopy reports amongst patients screened or surveilled for colorectal neoplasia

AIM： To complete a quality audit using recently pub- lished criteria from the Quality Assurance Task Group of the National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable. METHODS： Consecutive colonoscopy reports of patients at average/high risk screening, or with a prior col6rectal neoplasia （CRN） by endoscopists who perform 11 000 procedures yearly, using a commercial computerized endoscopic report generator. A separate institutional da- tabase providing pathological results. Required documen- tation included patient demographics, history, procedure indications, technical descriptions, colonoscopy findings, interventions, unplanned events, follow-up plans, and pathology results. Reports abstraction employed a stan- dardized glossary with 10% independent data validation. Sample size calculations determined the number of re- ports ***： Two hundreds and fifty patients （63.2± 10.5 years, female： 42.8%, average risk： 38.5%, per- sonal/family history of CRN： 43.3%/20.2%） were scoped in June 2009 by 8 gastroenterologists and 3 surgeons （mean practice： 17.1 ± 8.5 years）. Procedural indica- tion and informed consent were always documented. 14% provided a previous colonoscopy date （past polyp removal information in 25%, but insufficient in most to determine surveillance intervals appropriateness）. Most procedural indicators were recorded （exam date： 98.4%, medications： 99.2%, difficulty level： 98.8%, prep quality： 99.6%）. All reports noted extent of visualization （cecum： 94.4%, with landmarks noted in 78.8% - photodocu- mentation： 67.2%）. No procedural times were recorded. One hundred and eleven had polyps （44.4%） with ana- tomic location noted in 99.1%, size in 65.8%, morphol- ogy in 62.2%; removal was by cold biopsy in 25.2% （cold snare： 18%, snare cautery： 31.5%, unrecorded： 20.7%）, 84.7% were retrieved. Systematic review of colorectal cancer screening guidelines for average-risk adults: Summarizing the current global recommendations

AIM To summarize and compare worldwide colorectal cancer(CRC) screening recommendations in order to identify similarities and *** A systematic literature search was performed using MEDLINE, EMBASE, Scopus, CENTRAL and ISI Web of knowledge identifying all average-risk CRC screening guideline publications within the last ten years and/or position statements published in the last 2 years. In addition, a hand-search of the webpages of National Gastroenterology Society websites, the National Guideline Clearinghouse, the BMJ Clinical Evidence website,Google and Google Scholar was performed. RESULTS Fifteen guidelines were identified. Six guidelines were published in North America, four in Europe, four in Asia and one from the World Gastroenterology Organization. The majority of guidelines recommend screening average-risk individuals between ages 50 and 75 using colonoscopy(every 10 years), or flexible sigmoidoscopy(FS, every 5 years) or fecal occult blood test(FOBT, mainly the Fecal Immunochemical Test, annually or biennially). Disparities throughout the different guidelines are found relating to the use of colonoscopy, rank order between test, screening intervals and optimal age ranges for screening. CONCLUSION Average risk individuals between 50 and 75 years should undergo CRC screening. Recommendations for optimal surveillance intervals, preferred tests/test cascade as well as the optimal timing when to start and stop screening differ regionally and should be considered for clinical decision making. Furthermore, local resource availability and patient preferences are important to increase CRC screening uptake, as any screening is better than none.

Background: Associative data and some controlled studies suggest that the inflammatory cytokine tumor necrosis factor(TNF) α can induce fatty liver in dairy cattle. However, research demonstrating that TNFα is a necessary component in the etiology of bovine fatty liver is lacking. The aim of this work was to evaluate whether blocking TNFα signaling with a synthetic cyclic peptide(TNF receptor loop peptide; TRLP) would improve liver metabolic function and reduce triglyceride accumulation during feed ***: Capability of TRLP to inhibit TNFα signaling was confirmed on primary bovine hepatocytes treated with recombinant bovine TNFα and 4 doses of TRLP(0, 1, 10, 50 μmol/L) over 24 h. Next, 4 lactating Holstein cows(parity 1.4 ± 0.5, 433 ± 131 d in milk) in an incomplete Latin rectangle design(3 × 2) were subcutaneously administered with different TRLP doses(0, 1.5, 3.0 mg/kg BW) every 4 h for 24 h, followed by an intravenous injection of TNFα(5 μg/kg BW). Before and for 2 h after TNFα injection, TRLP decreased plasma non-esterified fatty acid(NEFA)concentration(P ≤ 0.05), suggesting an altered metabolic response to inflammation. Finally, 10 non-pregnant, nonlactating Holstein cows(3.9 ± 1.1 yr of age) were randomly assigned to treatments: control(carrier: 57% DMSO in PBS)or TRLP(1.75 mg TRLP/kg BW per day). Treatments were administrated every 4 h for 7 d by subcutaneous injection to feed-restricted cows fed 30% of maintenance energy requirements. Daily blood samples were analyzed for glucose,insulin, β-hydroxybutyrate, NEFA, and haptoglobin concentrations, with no treatment effects detected. On d 7, cows completed a glucose tolerance test(GTT) by i.v. administration of a dextrose bolus(300 mg glucose/kg BW). Glucose,insulin, and NEFA responses failed to demonstrate any significant effect of treatment during the GTT. This review will focus on the more abundant eggshell specific matrix proteins localized in the chicken eggshell （cuticle layer eggshell matrix and shell membranes） that are involved in eggshell mineralization and protecting the egg against microbial contamination, including ovocalyxin-36, ovocleidin-17, ovocalyxin-32 and ovocalyxin-25. Further understanding of these proteins and their mechanisms in egg defence could lead to the development of novel neutraceuticals for human health, additives to animal feed for healthy flocks, or enhanced eggs for human consumption.

AIM To performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to determine any possible differences in terms of effectiveness, safety and tolerability between existing colon-cleansing products in patients with inflammatory bowel *** Systematic searches were performed( January 1980-September 2016) using MEDLINE, EMBASE, Scopus, CENTRAL and ISI Web of knowledge for randomized trials assessing preparations with or without adjuvants, given in split and non-split dosing, and in high(> 3 L) or low-volume(2 L or less) regimens. Bowel cleansing quality was the primary outcome. Secondary outcomes included patient willingness-torepeat the procedure and side effects/*** Out of 439 citations, 4 trials fulfilled our inclusion criteria(n = 449 patients). One trial assessed the impact of adding simethicone to polyethylene glycol(PEG) 4 L with no effect on bowel cleansing quality, but a better tolerance. Another trial compared senna to castor oil, again without any differences in term of bowel cleansing. Two trials compared the efficacy of PEG high-volume vs PEG low-volume associated to an adjuvant in split-dose regimens: PEG low-dose efficacy was not different to PEG high-dose; OR = 0.84(0.37-1.92). A higher proportion of patients were willing to repeat low-volume preparations vs high-volume; OR = 5.11(1.31-20.0). CONCLUSION In inflammatory bowel disease population, PEG lowvolume regimen seems not inferior to PEG high-volume to clean the colon, and yields improved willingness-torepeat. Further additional research is urgently required to compare contemporary products in this population.
