Efficacy and safety of non-vitamin k antagonist oral anticoagulants post-kidney transplantation

BACkGROUND Novel oral anticoagulants(NOACs)were developed as alternatives to vitamin k antagonists,primarily warfarin,as they do not require routine monitoring and have limited drug-drug and drug-food ***,the efficacy and safety of these agents in kidney transplantation are not well *** To assess the profile and safety of NOACs for patients who had kidney transplantation,and to provide recommendations and guidelines on therapeutic strategies in these *** This was a retrospective study carried out among adult patients who were actively on the following NOACs(apixaban,rivaroxaban or dabigatran)in our renal transplantation program from December 2015 to December *** patients were identified primarily through electronic medical record system(patient data linkage).Data on the clinical and laboratory profile of the patients were retrieved and analyzed with SPSS *** Complete data on 42 renal transplant patients were retrieved:59.5%males,90.5%were whites and 66.7%were older than 60 years *** mean duration since renal transplantation of the patients was 8.8±7.4 *** most common risk factors for the development of end-stage renal disease in the subjects were hypertension(19.0%),polycystic kidney disease(19.0%),followed by diabetic nephropathy(16.7%)and chronic glomerulonephritis(16.7%).The main indications for NOACs use in the cohort were atrial fibrillation in 25 patients(59.5%)and venous thromboembolism in 10 patients(23.8%).Overall,29 patients(69%)were treated with apixaban,10 patients(23.8%)with rivaroxaban and 3 patients(7.14%)with ***(0%)thromboembolic events were observed during the one-year period,but 3(7.1%)bleeding events occurred in the cohort consisting of 1 patient treated with rivaroxaban 15 mg daily and 2 patients who received apixaban 2.5 mg twice *** were no significant changes in serum tacrolimus level three days after the initiation of NOACs among patients treated with tacrolimus(

Dual-Wavelength Passively Q-Switched Ytterbium-Doped Fiber Laser Based on aluminum Oxide Nanoparticle Saturable Absorbers

We report on generation of a dual-wavelength, all-fiber, passively Q-switched ytterbium-doped fiber laser using aluminum oxide nanoparticle （al2O3-NP） thin film. A thin film of al2O3 was prepared by embedding al2O3-NPs into a polyvinyl alcohol （PVA） as a host polymer, and then inserted between two fiber ferrules to act as a saturable absorber （SA）. By incorporating the al2O3-PVA SA into the laser cavity, a stable dual-wavelength pulse output centered at 1050 and 1060.7nm is observed at threshold pump power of 80mW. As the pump power is gradually increased from 80 to 300mW, the repetition rate of the generated pulse increases from 16.23 to 59 kHz, while the pulse width decreases from 19 to 6μs. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first demonstration for this type of SA operating in the 1 μm region.

An Efficient allocation for Lung Transplantation Using Ant Colony Optimization

A relationship between lung transplant success and many features of recipients’/donors has long been ***,modeling a robust model of a potential impact on organ transplant success has proved *** this study,a hybrid feature selection model was developed based on ant colony opti-mization(ACO)and k-nearest neighbor(kNN)classiﬁer to investigate the rela-tionship between the most deﬁning features of recipients/donors and lung transplant success using data from the United Network of Organ Sharing(UNOS).The proposed ACO-kNN approach explores the features space to identify the representative attributes and classify patients’functional status(i.e.,quality of life)after lung *** efﬁcacy of the proposed model was veriﬁed using 3,684 records and 118 input features from the *** developed approach examined the reliability and validity of the lung allocation *** results are promising regarding accuracy prediction to be 91.3%and low computational time,along with better decision capabilities,emphasizing the potential for automatic classiﬁcation of the lung and other organs allocation *** addition,the proposed model recommends a new perspective on how medical experts and clinicians respond to uncertain and challenging lung alloca-tion *** such ACO-kNN model,a medical professional can sum-marize information through the proposed method and make decisions for the upcoming transplants to allocate the donor organ.

Calibration of CO and CO₂ Monitors Used in Periodic Inspection of Vehicles at Fixed Stations for Environmental Control

Global efforts for environmental cleanliness through the control of gaseous emissions from vehicles are gaining momentum and attracting increasing attention. Calibration plays a crucial role in these efforts by ensuring the quantitative assessment of emissions for informed decisions on environmental treatments. This paper describes a method for the calibration of CO/CO2 monitors used for periodic inspections of vehicles in cites. The calibration was performed in the selected ranges: 900 - 12,000 µmol/mol for CO and 2000 - 20,000 µmol/mol for CO2. The traceability of the measurement results to the SI units was ensured by using certified reference materials from CO/N2 and CO2/N2 primary gas mixtures. The method performance was evaluated by assessing its linearity, accuracy, precision, bias, and uncertainty of the calibration results. The calibration data exhibited a strong linear trend with R² values close to 1, indicating an excellent fit between the measured values and the calibration lines. Precision, expressed as relative standard deviation (%RSD), ranged from 0.48 to 4.56% for CO and from 0.97 to 3.53% for CO2, staying well below the 5% threshold for reporting results at a 95% confidence level. Accuracy measured as percent recovery, was consistently high (≥ 99.1%) for CO and ranged from 84.90% to 101.54% across the calibration range for CO2. In addition, the method exhibited minimal bias for both CO and CO2 calibrations and thus provided a reliable and accurate approach for calibrating CO/CO2 monitors used in vehicle inspections. Thus, it ensures the effectiveness of exhaust emission control for better environment.

The influence of sex steroid hormones on the response to trauma and burn injury

Trauma and related sequelae result in disturbance of homeostatic mechanisms frequently leading to cellular dysfunction and ultimately organ and system failure. Regardless of the type and severity of injury, gender dimorphism in outcomes following trauma have been reported, with females having lower mortality than males, suggesting that sex steroid hormones (SSH) play an important role in the response of body systems to trauma. In addition, several clinical and experimental studies have demonstrated the effects of SSH on the clinical course and outcomes following injury. Animal studies have reported the ability of SSH to modulate immune, inflammatory, metabolic and organ responses following traumatic injury. This indicates that homeostatic mechanisms, via direct and indirect pathways, can be maintained by SSH at local and systemic levels and hence result in more favourable prognosis. Here, we discuss the role and mechanisms by which SSH modulates the response of the body to injury by maintaining various processes and organ functions. Such properties of sex hormones represent potential novel therapeutic strategies and further our understanding of current therapies used following injury such as oxandrolone in burn-injured patients.

Neuroprotective role of Noggin in spinal cord injury

Spinal cord injury is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality among young adults in many countries including the United *** in the regeneration of neurons is one of the main obstacles that leave spinal cord injury patients with permanent paralysis in most *** research has found that preventing acute and subacute secondary cellular damages to the neurons and supporting glial cells can help slow the progression of spinal cord injury pathogenesis,in part by reactivating endogenous regenerative proteins including Noggin that are normally present during spinal cord *** is a complex protein and natural inhibitor of the multifunctional bone morphogenetic proteins,and its expression is high during spinal cord development and after induction of spinal cord *** this review article,we first discuss the change in expression of Noggin during pathogenesis in spinal cord ***,we discuss the current research knowledge about the neuroprotective role of Noggin in preclinical models of spinal cord ***,we explain the gap in the knowledge for the use of Noggin in the treatment of spinal cord *** results from extensive in vitro and in vivo research have revealed that the therapeutic efficacy of Noggin treatment remains debatable due to its neuroprotective effects observed only in early phases of spinal cord injury but little to no effect on altering pathogenesis and functional recovery observed in the chronic phase of spinal cord ***,clinical information regarding the role of Noggin in the alleviation of progression of pathogenesis,its therapeutic efficacy,bioavailability,and safety in human spinal cord injury is still lacking and therefore needs further investigation.

We have studied the genotoxic and apoptotic potential of ferric oxide nanoparticles（Fe_2O_3-NPs） in Raphanus sativus（radish）.Fe_2O_3-NPs retarded the root length and seed germination in *** sections of treated roots showed subcellular localization of Fe_2O_3-NPs,along with the appearance of damaged mitochondria and excessive *** cytometric analysis of Fe_2O_3-NPs（1.0 mg/m L） treated groups exhibited 219.5%,161%,120.4% and 161.4% increase in intracellular reactive oxygen species（ROS）,mitochondrial membrane potential（ΔΨm）,nitric oxide（NO） and Ca2＋influx in radish protoplasts.A concentration dependent increase in the antioxidative enzymes glutathione（GSH）,catalase（CAT）,superoxide dismutase（SOD） and lipid peroxidation（LPO） has been *** assay showed a concentration dependent increase in deoxyribonucleic acid（DNA） strand breaks in Fe_2O_3-NPs treated *** cycle analysis revealed 88.4% of cells in sub-G1 apoptotic phase,suggesting cell death in Fe_2O_3-NPs（2.0 mg/m L） treated *** together,the genotoxicity induced by Fe_2O_3-NPs highlights the importance of environmental risk associated with improper disposal of nanoparticles（NPs） and radish can serve as a good indicator for measuring the phytotoxicity of NPs grown in NP-polluted environment.

Enhancement of freshwater production of the seawater greenhouse condenser

Seawater greenhouse(SWGH)is a technology established to overcome issues related to open field cultivation in arid areas,such as the high ambient temperature and the shortage of *** adopts the humidification-dehumidification concept where evaporated moisture from a saline water source is condensed to produce freshwater within the greenhouse *** condenser designs are adopted to increase freshwater production in order to meet the irrigation *** aim of this study was to experimentally investigate the practicality of using the packed-type direct contact condenser in the SWGH to produce more freshwater at low costs,simple design and high efficiency,and to explore the impact of the manipulating six operational variables(inlet air temperature of the humidifier,air mass flowrate of the humidifier,inlet water temperature of the humidifier,water mass flowrate of the humidifier,inlet water temperature of the dehumidifier and water mass flowrate of the dehumidifier)on freshwater condensation *** this purpose,a direct contact condenser was designed and ***-four full factorial experiments were conducted to study the effect of the six operational *** variable was operated at two levels(high and low flowrate),and each experiment lasted for 10 min and followed by a 30-min waiting *** showed that freshwater production varied between 0.257 and 2.590 L for every 10 *** using Minitab statistical software to investigate the significant variables that contributed to the maximum freshwater production,it was found that the inlet air temperature of the humidifier had the greatest influence,followed by the inlet water temperature of the humidifier;the former had a negative impact while the latter had a positive impact on freshwater *** response optimizer tool revealed that the optimal combination of variables contributed to maximize freshwater production when all variables were in the high mode and the inlet air
