Microwave-ultrasound assisted extraction of red corn pigments and their effect on chemical composition and tecno-functional properties

currently, there is a growing interest in obtaining natural pigments, without presenting a risk to health, as well as to the matrix and food safety. The objective of this study was to characterize grains with different shades of red color (High pigmentation maize = RA, Medium pigmentation maize = RM, and Low pigmentation maize = RB, reddish maize with white segments = VO and white maize control = sc). The physical properties (kernel weight, length, width, thickness, and grain and flour color), chemical composition (moisture, fat, protein, fiber, starch, ash, and minerals), and techno-functional properties (capacity of absorption of organic molecules (OMAc), swelling (cH), oil retention (cAAc), and water absorption (WAs)) variables were measured. Afterward, RM was selected, and a pigment extraction (EAUM) was carried out using microwave-ultrasound equipment with different ratios of ethanol (0, 30, and 70%) and citric acid ratios (0 and 1%). The color and properties of the solid (starch, protein, fat, and their techno-functional properties) were determined in the aqueous phase and were compared with the properties prior to EAUM. The results indicated that the red grains have higher starch content (57.6%) and reddish colors, in addition, VO presented higher moisture (10.4%), fat (6.7%) and fiber (10.0%). The colors of the pigments obtained with EtOH (30 and 70%) show shades red and yellow. Finally, the EAUM decreased the fat content up to 57%, increased WAs and cAAc in the residual flour and generated changes in OMAc and cH, increasing in aqueous medium and reducing with EtOH.

This work explores experimentally the effects of Dc electrical currents on lubricant film thickness alteration in lubricated sliding steel contacts in the boundary and mixed regime as measured by *** experiments were performed in a two-electrode cell-based pin-on-disk tester instrumented with ultrasonic *** and electrified tribological tests were conducted on steel flat-on-flat contacts under various speeds and loads using both a mineral base oil and a gear *** thickness,coefficient of friction(coF),and electrical contact resistance(EcR)were measured during short experiments(30 s)in unelectrified and electrified(1.5 and 3 A)*** results suggest that film thickness,coF,and all EcR are altered by passing Dc currents through the *** particular,film thickness increased and decreased,respectively,by applying electricity at the different speeds and loads *** alterations were majorly ascribed to oil viscosity decrease by local heat and surface oxidation caused by electrical discharge and break down at the interface.

Understanding the microscopic structure and thermodynamic properties of electrode/electrolyte interfaces is central to the rational design of electric-double-layer capacitors(EDLcs).Whereas practical applications often entail electrodes with complicated pore structures,theoretical studies are mostly restricted to EDLcs of simple geometry such as planar or slit pores ignoring the curvature effects of the electrode *** gaps exist regarding the EDLc performance and the interfacial *** the classical density functional theory(cDFT)is used to study the capacitance and interfacial behavior of spherical electric double layers within a coarse-grained *** capacitive performance is associated with electrode curvature,surface potential,and electrolyte concentration and can be correlated with a regression-tree(RT)*** combination of cDFT with machine-learning methods provides a promising quantitative framework useful for the computational screening of porous electrodes and novel electrolytes.

The structural Proteins of Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus Bacteriophage MAc-1

In the present investigation the structural proteins associated with MAc-1 bacteriophage have been characterized using sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (sDs-PAGE);tandem mass spectrometry of protein bands from sDs-PAGE gel;from the open reading frames (ORFs) deduced from MAc-1 genome sequence and amino acid sequence homology searches from the Uniprot database (up000002418). Results have led to the identification of at least three structural proteins associated with MAc-1 phage genome. They are: capsid protein (~55,000-daltons);spike protein (~22,000-daltons) and a low molecular weight DNA binding protein (~4000-dal- tons). In addition, two other minor proteins were tentatively identified as replicative and scaffold proteins based on two to three unique peptides from mass spectrometry data. However, other proteins coded (ORFs) by phage genome remain to be identified.

The aims of this study are to determine the population genetic structure of Rhizoctonia solani,associated with potato,and to assess its resistance degree to pencycuron and thiabendazole fungicides.A total of 57 strains of *** were isolated from different potato crop fields in Mexico,and were classified according to their anastomosis group(AG)using the polymerase chain reaction(PcR)and restriction fragment length polymorphism(RFLP)-based ***,the amplified fragments were digested with four different endonucleases(Mse I,Ava II,Mun I and Hinc II).The Repetitive Element sequence-Based PcR(rep-PcR)technique was used to determine the genetic diversity in *** *** obtained by PcR-RFLP showed that 81%of the isolates were identified as belonging to AG-3 group,14%to AG1-1B and 5%to AG-11 *** response to fungicides inhibition,Ic_(50)between 0.014-0.039 mg a.i./L for pencycuron,and 0.82 to 2.91 for thiabendazole were determined,This Ic_(50)value showed that the resistance factor(RF)values ranged from 1.4 to 3.945 and 0.27 to 0.97,respectively;this tendency suggests that isolates are susceptible to *** AG groups showed a heterogeneous resistance to pencycuron and thiabendazole,being more tolerant to these fungicides AG1-1B and AG-11 *** genetic analysis shows a low genetic diversity among(P-value 0.3225)and within(P-value 0.3275)populations;this can indicate a clonal reproduction and little parasexual cycle among the analyzed isolations.

Validation of a preclinical dry eye model in New Zealand white rabbits during and following topical instillation of 1% ophthalmic atropine sulfate

Background : The objective of this study was to validate an animal model for dry eye during and after the administration of 1% ophthalmic atropine sulfate(OAs) in New Zealand white(NZW) *** : OAs(1%) was applied three times per day to 30 eyes of 15 healthy NZW rabbits. sacrifice, enucleation, and lacrimal gland removal took place on days 15, 21,and 30(OAs group). A second group(n = 5) was used as control. clinical evaluations took place on days 3, 10, 15, 18, 21, 24 and 30. The primary endpoints were:schirmer I test, tear break-up time(TBUT), and corneal fluorescein staining. As secondary endpoints, clinical changes including intraocular pressure, and histopathology were *** : While OAs was administered, the schirmer I test showed a statistically significant reduction for OAs group versus control( p sus basal production( p showed statistically significant differences between groups(days 3 and 10;p = 0.001) and versus basal values(day 3;p scein staining showed a statistically significant difference(day 3;p = 0.001). The most frequent clinical finding was conjunctival hyperemia(76.9% OAs vs. 20% control). For histopathology, all OAs subjects presented some degree of inflammation(86.7% minimal;13.3% mild) whereas the control presented only 30% minimal inflammation. Goblet cell density showed no *** : The effectiveness of the OAs dry eye model in NZW rabbits as reported in previous studies was confirmed, provided that the application of the drug is maintained throughout the intervention;it is not a viable model after OAs administration is suspended.

synthesis and characterization of carbon conditioned with Iron Nanoparticles Using Pineapple-Peel

This paper presents the preparation of carbon conditioned with iron nanoparticles (cI) using a pineapple peel treated with iron salts, carboxymethylcellulose sodium and hexamine. First, the pineapple peel was analyzed by thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA) to determine the optimal temperature for pyrolysis. The formation of carbon conditioned by iron nanoparticles was studied as a function of time at 30 min, 60 min, 90 min, 120 min, 150 min and 180 min. scanning electron microscopy (sEM) was used to identify changes in the morphology of the materials. The specific area of each material was obtained by the BET method. The elemental composition of pineapple-peel (PP), washed pineapple-peel (WPP) and carbon iron (cI), was determined by neutron activation analysis (NAA). The results show that the optimal time for obtaining spherical iron nanoparticles with a diameter between 10 nm and 30 nm is 180 min on the carbonaceous material with a specific surface area of 167 m2/g.
