diabetes mellitus is referred as common metabolic abnormalities characterized as hyperglycemia,mainly caused due to insufficient production of insulin at cellular level or/and defects in insulin *** an endocrine disorder is responsible for serious health problems and its worldwide prevalence is rapidly *** management of diabetes by oral administration of drugs without creating any side effects is still considered a challenging task and increasing cost of con-ventional medicine in developing countries is another matter of *** address these issues,traditional preparations of herbal plant extracts in the form of medicines already gained immense *** chirayita is one among such plants which is known for its hypoglycemic *** chemical constituents with promising pharmacological properties have been identified from such plant extracts but still,such compounds have not been well characterized,specifically against human ***,more research efforts are necessitated to understand exact mechanism of such compounds and to develop overall safety of such plant *** review clearly represents antidiabetic properties of Swertia chirayita extract,strategies to be taken to strengthen its safety application on humans and biotechnological interventions that ensure conservation of such endangered species to promote its future application in modern medicine.

EVALUATION OF CONE OF UNCERTAINTY IN TROPICAL CYCLONE TRACK FORECAST OVER NORTH INdIAN OCEAN ISSUEd BY INdIA METEOROLOGICAL dEPARTMENT

India Meteorological department(IMd) introduced cone of uncertainty(COU) in cyclonic disturbances(Cds) alongwith the 72 hr track forecast over the north India Ocean(NIO) in 2009. The track forecast for Cds is issued for +6, +12, +18, +24, +36, +48, +60 and +72 hrs time period from the stage of deep depression onwards. An attempt is made to evaluate COU forecast issued by IMd during 2009-2011(3 years). The size of the cone is deduced from climatological track forecast errors. The accuracy of COU forecast has been analysed with respect to basin of formation, season of formation, intensity and type of track(climatological/straight moving and recurving/looping type) of Cds by calculating percentage of total number of forecasts in each category lying within COU. The observed track lies within the forecast COU in about 60% of the cases over the NIO. The accuracy of COU forecast is about 66% in post-monsoon season and about 50% in pre-monsoon season. The observed track lies within the forecast COU in 90% cases of climatological/straight moving Cds and 39% cases of recurving/looping Cds. The observed track lies within COU forecast in about 71% cases of severe cyclonic storm and 37% cases of cyclonic storm/deep depression.

Objective:To determine the antioxidant and hepatoprotective potential of methanol extract of rhizome of Curcuma angustifolia(MECA)against carbon tetrachloride(CCl4)-induced hepatic damage in vitro and in ***:dPPH,ABTS and reducing power assays were performed to estimate the antioxidant effect of *** vitro cytotoxicity of MECA against HepG2 cells was evaluated,whereas serum biochemical parameters and levels of antioxidative enzymes were measured in vivo and in ***,histopathological studies were estimated in order to investigate the hepatoprotective efficacy of ***,GC-MS analysis of the extract was performed to identify the chemical ***:MECA exhibited strong antioxidant activity and attenuated CCl4-induced decrease in the viability of HepG2 ***,MECA significantly restored the ALT,AST,ALP,TP and albumin level in comparison with the CCl4 *** pre-treatment with MECA,effects of SOd,CAT and GSH were increased as well as lipid peroxidation amount decreased on CCl4-induced hepatotoxicity in in vitro and in vivo ***,histopathological observation confirmed that MECA reduced liver injury induced by CCl4 in ***-MS analysis confirmed the presence of bioactive constituents such as α-tocopherol(12.27%),phytol(7.61%),squalene(3.71%),β-sitosterol(2.19%),eugenol(2.59%),curcumenol(1.20%),β-elemene(1.00%)and eucalyptol(0.89%).Conclusions:MECA contains antioxidant and hepatoprotective constituents such asα-tocopherol,phytol,squalene and eugenol and exerts hepatoprotective effect both in vitro and in vivo.

Reliable vehicles are essential in vehicular networks for effective *** vehicles in the network are dynamic,even a short span of misbehavior by a vehicle can disrupt the whole network which may lead to catastrophic *** this paper,a Trust-Based distributed doS Misbehave detection Approach(TBddoSA-Md)is proposed to secure the Software-defined Vehicular Network(SdVN).A malicious vehicle in this network performs ddoS misbehavior by attacking other vehicles in its *** uses the jamming technique by sending unnecessary signals in the network,as a result,the network performance *** vehicles in that network will no longer meet the service requests from other ***,in this paper,we proposed an approach to detect the ddoS misbehavior by using the trust values of the *** values are calculated based on direct trust and recommendations(indirect trust).These trust values help to decide whether a vehicle is legitimate or *** simply discard the messages from malicious vehicles whereas the authenticity of the messages from legitimate vehicles is checked further before taking any action based on those *** performance of TBddoSA-Md is evaluated in the Veins hybrid simulator,which uses OMNeT++and Simulation of Urban Mobility(SUMO).We compared the performance of TBddoSA-Md with the recently proposed Trust-Based Framework(TBF)scheme using the following performance parameters such as detection accuracy,packet delivery ratio,detection time,and energy *** results show that the proposed work has a high detection accuracy of more than 90%while keeping the detection time as low as 30 s.

Genetic dissection of Grain Size Traits Through Genome-Wide Association Study Based on Genic Markers in Rice

Grain size plays a significant role in rice,starting from affecting yield to consumer preference,which is the driving force for deep investigation and improvement of grain size *** inheritance makes these traits complex to breed on account of several alleles contributing to the complete trait *** employed genome-wide association study in an association panel of 88 rice genotypes using 142 new candidate gene based SSR(cgSSR)markers,derived from yield-related candidate genes,with the efficient mixed-model association coupled mixed linear model for dissecting complete genetic control of grain size traits.A total of 10 significant associations were identified for four grain size-related characters(grain weight,grain length,grain width,and length-width ratio).Among the identified associations,seven marker trait associations explain more than 10%of the phenotypic variation,indicating major putative QTLs for respective *** allelic variations at genes OsBC1L4,SHO1 and Osd2 showed association between 1000-grain weight and grain width,1000-grain weight and grain length,and grain width and length-width ratio,*** cgSSR markers,associated with corresponding traits,can be utilized for direct allelic selection,while other significantly associated cgSSRs may be utilized for allelic accumulation in the breeding programs or grain size *** new cgSSR markers associated with grain size related characters have a significant impact on practical plant breeding to increase the number of causative alleles for these traits through marker aided rice breeding programs.

Optimization of Wire-EdM Parameters for Ti-6Al-4V Using Taguchi-MRSN Optimization Approach

Ti-6Al-4V is a lightweight， extremely strong material with high resistance to corrosion and is widely used in aerospace industries， medical implants and many more. Contour cutting in such material with sharp corner radius， narrow kerf width， and maintaining high dimensional accuracy and surface integrity is a challenge for the modern manufacturing industry. Wire electrical discharge machining （WEdM） is a feasible process to meet the above challenges. However， proper control of process parameters is highly necessary for quality cutting of such material. In order to meet the above challenges， the present work focuses on the optimum selection of different process parameters such as pulse-on time (TON)， pulse-off time (TOFF)， spark gap voltage （SV） and wire feed rate （WF） using Taguchi-based multi response signal to noise ratio （MRSN） technique. This is a very simple multi response optimization technique to simultaneously optimize vital responses like thickness of white layer formed on the machined surfaces， average crack density， surface roughness and dimensional accuracy， without the assistance of any software. Moreover， simple regression models are developed to determine the above responses for any combination of process parameters. Industry personnel will find this study useful in utilizing this expensive non-conventional machining method in a techno-economic manner.

Calcarea carbonica treatment rescues lipopolysaccharide-induced inflammatory response in human mononuclear cells via downregulation of inducible cyclooxygenase pathway

Objective: Prolonged use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs is associated with severe side effects and toxicity. Therefore, we studied the anti-inflammatory role of Calcarea carbonica which had minimal toxicity at the low ***: THP-1 human mononuclear cells were treated with C. carbonica to evaluate the 50% cytotoxicity concentration(CC_(50)) and 50% effective concentration(EC_(50)). Cell survival was evaluated in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated C. carbonica-treated cells. Nitric oxide(NO) and tumor necrosis factor-a(TNF-a) were measured to evaluate the anti-inflammatory activity of C. carbonica. Cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2) protein expression was determined by Western blotting analysis, and the interaction of C. carbonica with the COX-2 protein was evaluated using molecular docking ***: The CC_(50) and EC_(50) of C. carbonica were found to be 43.26 and 11.99 mg/mL, respectively. The cell survival assay showed a 1.192-fold(P = 0.0129), 1.443-fold(P = 0.0009) and 1.605-fold(P = 0.0004)increase in cell survival at 24, 48 and 72 h after initiating C. carbonica treatment, respectively. C. carbonica-treated cells showed a reduction in NO levels by 2.355 folds(P = 0.0001), 2.181 folds(P = 0.0001) and 2.071 folds(P = 0.0001) at 24, 48 and 72 h, respectively. The treated cells also showed a reduction in TNFa levels by 1.395 folds(P = 0.0013), 1.541 folds(P = 0.0005) and 1.550 folds(P = 0.0005) at 24, 48 and72 h, respectively. In addition, a 1.193-fold reduction(P = 0.0126) in COX-2 protein expression was found in C. carbonica-treated cells. The molecular docking showed interaction of C. carbonica with the phenylalanine 367 residue present in active site of ***: C. carbonica exhibited anti-inflammatory properties in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated cells by significantly reducing NO production and TNF-a level through downregulation of the COX-2 protein. This effect is probably mediated through interaction of C. carbonica with the phenylalanine

Association of hypoglycaemia in screening oral glucose tolerance test in pregnancy with low birth weight fetus

BACKGROUNd Gestational diabetes mellitus(GdM) is a common metabolic derangement in pregnant women. In the women identified to be at high risk of GdM, a 75 g oral glucose tolerance test(OGTT) at 24-28 wk gestation is the recommended screening test in the United Kingdom as per National Institute for Health and Care Excellence(NICE). Hypoglycaemia following the glucose load is often encountered and the implication of this finding for the pregnancy, fetus and clinical care is *** To determine the prevalence of hypoglycaemia at any time during the screening OGTT and explore its association with birth *** All deliveries between 2009 and 2013 at the local maternity unit of the University hospital were reviewed. Of the total number of 24,154 women without preexisting diabetes, those who had an OGTT for GdM screening based on NICE recommended risk stratification, who had a singleton delivery and had complete clinical and demographic data for analysis, were included for this study(n =3537). Blood samples for fasting plasma glucose(FPG), 2-hour plasma glucose(2-h PG) and HbA1 c had been obtained. Birth weight was categorised as low(≤ 2500 g), normal or Macrosomia(≥ 4500 g) and blood glucose ≤ 3.5 mmol/L was used to define hypoglycaemia. Binary logistic regression was used to determine the association of various independent factors with dichotomized variables; the differences between frequencies/proportions by χ~2 test and comparison between group means was by one-way *** Amongst the study cohort(3537 deliveries), 96(2.7%) women had babies with LBW(delivered a LBW baby had significantly lower FPG(4.3 ± 0.6 mmol/L, P = 0.001). The proportion of women who had a 2-h PG ≤ 3.5 mmol/L in the LBW cohort was significantly higher compared to the cohorts with normal and macrosomic babies(8.3% vs 2.8% vs 4.2%; P = 0.007). The factors which predicted LBW were FPG, Asian ethnicity and 2-h PG ≤ 3.5 mmol/L,whereas maternal age, 2-h PG ≥ 7.8 mm
