Purpose: To develop a new technique for fixation of posterior chamber intraocular lens (IOL) in the absence of posterior capsule *** and Methods: We performed non-trans-scleral fixation of intraocular lenses on 24.cases (24.eyes) without posterior capsule support. Two scleral flaps with limbal incisions and two peripheral iridectomies were made at 1 o' clock and 7 o' clock positions respectively. A suture-leading needle was used to lead the prolene suture from the limbal incision and iridectomy on one side through the iridectomy and limbal incision on the other side. Intraocular lens (IOL) was then fixed in the ciliary sulcus. Results: After a mean follow-up of 6. 6 months (range from 3 to 14.months), corrected visual acuity of 16 cases (16 eyes,66. 7% ) got 0.5 or better. Postoperative complications included discoria (4.eyes) , surface membrane formation ( 1 eye ), choroidal detachment (1 eye) and tilt of IOL (1 eyes),but all were not severe. Purpose: research the etiology of vision impairment in target persons over 4. years old in Doumen county , Guangdong ***: Depending on the prevalences of the blindness among the person aged over 50 years, the theoretic sample rate is 1 000/4.8733×100%=2. 05%. The 8 districts were divided into 3 parts according to the local economic situation and the proportion of the population in the areas. In fact, the sampling rate is 932/ 10055 = 88.34..Results:W’e found that impairment 4.. The prevalence of bilateral blindness and low vision was 1. 61% and 3. 22%, respectively. Both prevalences of blindness and low vision were increased with age. The leading cuase of blindness was cataract (4.. 2%). The second was corneal opacity (16. 7% ). Prevalentces of the low vision and the blindness were higher in females than in males (P<0. 005).Conclusions: Curable and preventable diseases were the leading cause for the blindness (70%). Purpose: To observe the difference of the effects of PMMA and foldable intraocular lenses (IOLs) trans-sclerally fixed in pediatric eyes.Methods: Thirty-two children (4. eyes) who had undergone trans-scleral fixation of IOL were retrospected, of whom 5 children were implanted PMMA IOL in both eyes, 6children were implanted PMMA IOL in one eye and foldable IOL in the other eye, 12children were implanted foldable IOL in one eye and 9 chilrden were implanted PMMA IOL in one eye. Mean age was 5.3 years ( range 2.5 ～ 12 years ). Twelve children had traumatic cataract and the others congenital cataract before lens extraction.Results: Foldable group (18 eyes ): Mean follow-up was 12.1 months. Visual acuity (VA): compared with the best corrected VA before IOL fixation, postoperative best corrected VA improved in 16 eyes, remained unchanged in 2 eyes. In 14.eyes, one or two stitches were needed to seal the incision. Complications: Severe anterior chamber reaction was seen in 3 eyes. Intraocular bleeding was found in 3 eyes. IOL decentration was detected in 1 eye. Iris capture of IOL was seen in one eye. PMMA group (25 eyes ):Mean follow-up was 20.3 months. Visual acuity (VA): compared with the best corrected VA before IOL fixation, postoperative best corrected VA improved in 19 eyes,remained unchanged in 5 eyes and got worse in one eye. In 24.eyes, one to three stitches were needed to seal the incision. Complications: Severe anterior chamber reaction was seen in 5 eyes. Intraocular bleeding was found in 4.eyes. IOL decentration was seen in one eye. Iris capture of IOL was seen in 3 eyes. Intraocular pressure elevated in one eye.Conclusion: Our study shows that trans-scleral fixation of IOL is a safe procedure in pediatric eyes. Foldable IOL showed similar effect compared with PMMA IOL in pediatric trans-scleral fixation. Eye Science 2001; 17:61 ～ 64.

Purpose: To evaluate the corneal toxicity of subconjunctival injection interferon α-2bat filtering bleb after sclerectomy in white ***: Eight rabbits which had been performed sclerectomy were randomlydivided into two groups. Each group consisted of four rabbits. Eight eyes in group 1were subconjunctivally received interferon α-2b 5 × 105IU/0. 2ml into filtering blebfrom the edge of the filtering site immediately after operation and every postoperativeday. The other eight eyes in group 2 were injected with 0. 2ml normal saline. All ofthe eyes underwent daily examination by slip-lamp microscopy and directophthalmoloscopy. Purpose: Age-related lens opacity is the main cause of vision disablitity in elderly population all over the world. This study was designed to investigate the prevalence and incidence of lens ***: 1817 eyes of 932 adults over 4. year-old were sampled randomly from 4.villeges within Doumen, a county located in the south of Guangdong provience, china. The procedure of the examination was performed by ophthalmologists. The lens opacities were graded according to a standarized photo of the Lens Opacities Classification System II (LOGS- II ).Results: The prevalence of lens opacities in nuclear color, nuclear opacity, cortical opacity and subcapsular opacity was 16. 1% , 28.,6% , 30. 3% and 8. 7% , respectively. The frequency of all four types of opacities increased with age. The prevalence of lens opacities in four types was higher in female than that in male. Conclusion: The data we got are important for prevalence of lens opacities of population-based study as well as basic information for

Purpose: Neuron-specific enolase (NSE) of containing γ-enolase is considered valuable in the diagnosis of tumours of neuroectodermal *** : We used rapid electrophoretic method on cellulose acetate plate to determine the pattern of enolase isoenzymes in 21 aqueous humor and 23 serum specimens from retinoblastoma (Rb) and 21 aqueous and 25 serum specimens from 25 control cases to evaluate NSE in the diagnosis of Rb. The assay allowed assessment of all three major isoenzymes (aa,aγ and γγ),and NSE relative activity and its percentage in the total relative activity of the three enolase isoenzymes were assessed by means of ***: Aqueous from all patients with Rb contained aa,ar and rr isoenzymes and presented strong postitive, the positive rate of NSE being 100% and its relative activity accounting for 4. ± 9% of the total relative activity of the 3 enolase isoenzymes; No enolase was detectable in control aqueous with cataract, glaucoma and Coats's diseases (4.cases),but in two

Purpose: To summarize the clinical experience of 300 cases using the Sapphire unfloder intraocular lens (IOL) injection ***: After the standard phacoemulsification, an AR4.e IOL was implanted using the Sapphire Unfolder. The involved problems during and after the operation were observed and ***:The complications occurred during the operation including the crack at the haptic-optic junction in 2 cases, slight kink in the haptic in 5 cases, IOL clamp into the cartridge in 2 cases, posterior capsular rupture in 2 cases and endothelium damage in the central small area in 4.cases. All the patients recovered successfully with IOLs in good ***: IOL implantation with the Sapphire Unfolder led to no serious complications and got the satisfactory results.

Box H/ACA snoRNA is an abundant group of snoRNAs that have been characterized in various eukaryotes and in Archaea as rRNA pseudouridylation guide. Box H/ACA snoRNAs share a common secondary structure consisting of two large hairpin domains linked by a hinge and followed by a short tail, with two conserved motifs termed boxes H (ANANNA) and boxes ACA located in the hinge and tail, respectively. One hundred and three color vision defective subjects were screened from 34.6 middle school students with pseudoisochromatic plate test One hundred subjects out of them were further examined with a test battery including Panel D—15 and FM 100—hue test and Neitz anomaloscope test It was found that there were 21 protanopes (P), 3 extremely protanomalous (EPA), 13 protanomalous (PA), 25 deutenopes (D), 5 extremely deuteranomalous (EDA), 28 deuteranomalous (DA), 6 unclassified subjects in our investigation. The proportion of various types of congenital color vision defects was P: EPA: PA: D: EDA: DA=1.00:0.14.0.62:1.19:0.24.1.33.
