A study on compressive shock wave propagation in metallic foams

Metallic foam can dissipate a large amount of energy due to its relatively long stress plateau,which makes it widely applicable in the design of structural crashworthiness. However,in some experimental studies,stress enhancement has been observed when the specimens are subjected to intense impact loads,leading to severe damage to the objects being protected. This paper studies this phenomenon on a 2D mass-spring-bar model. With the model,a constitutive relationship of metal foam and corresponding loading and unloading criteria are presented; a nonlinear kinematics equilibrium equation is derived,where an explicit integra-tion algorithm is used to calculate the characteristic of the compressive shock wave propagation within the metallic foam; the effect of heterogeneous distribution of foam microstructures on the shock wave features is also included. The results reveal that under low impact pulses,considerable energy is dissipated during the progressive collapse of foam cells,which then reduces the crush of objects. When the pulse is sufficiently high,on the other hand,stress enhancement may take place,especially in the heterogeneous foams,where high peak stresses usually occur. The characteristics of compressive shock wave propagation in the foam and the magnitude and location of the peak stress produced are strongly dependent on the mechanical properties of the foam material,amplitude and period of the pulse,as well as the homogeneity of the microstructures. This research provides valuable insight into the reliability of the metallic foams used as a protective structure.

Al70-XSi3.MnX (X=0, 3. 5, 7, 10, mol%) ribbons were prepared by melt spinning. A supersaturated solid solution of Si and Mn in fcc Al and some microstructures consisting of nano grains were obtained. Some alloys with nano-sized grains exhibited high discharge capacities and favorable cycle properties. The capacity of more than 400 mAh/g could be obtained in melt-spun Al67Si3.Mn3.alloy after 20 cycles and more than 3.0 mAh/g after 40 cycles. Li/Si and Li/Al compounds in the anodes of pure Al and pure Si were not detected in Al-Si-Mn alloys inserted by Li. It is considered that the formation of the supersaturated solid solution and refinement of microstructures have prevented the alloys from the forming the compounds with superfluous Li. As a result, the electrochemical properties have been improved.

Ni-Cu-Zn ferrite/CaTiO3.nd Ni-Cu-Zn ferrite/BaTiO3.omposites which can be applied in low temperature co-fired ceramic（LTCC） technology were synthesized by conventional solid-state reaction at temperature lower than 950℃.Influence of the {3. and the gap parameterδ/D on the complex permeability of the above two composites was *** modifiedδ/D values of the above two composites show a good fit to the magnetic circuit *** dielectric properties of the composites were predicted by the Maxwell-Garnctt effective medium theory and the discrepancy between measured and calculated values was analyzed.

Conductive mataUic LaNiO(LNO)films were prepared by metalorganic *** films were obtained by spin-on pyrolysis in air and than annealing at various temperature in air or *** effect of different thermal treatments on erystallinity and conductive behavior of LNO films was studied. The results indicated the pyrolysis process in the critical step to obtain good metaUie LNO films at lower grown *** films with the lowest resitivity(～800μΩ cm)were obtained on Si by annealing in oxygen at 700℃.

The functionalized derivative outside carbon nanotubes (CNTs) is likely to improve their biocompatibility. Therefore, CNTs have attracted great attention not only in electrical, optical and mechanical applications but also in biological and pharmaceutical applications. Thus, it is important to examine the biodistribution and kinetics of the carbon-based nanotubes when they are introduced into living systems. Here, we synthesized and characterized tyrosine functionalized carbon nanotubes (CNTs-Tyr) and show the biodistribution profiles of CNTs-Tyr in mice following three different administrations by 125I labeled radioisotope tracing method. It is shown that the behavior of CNTs-Tyr in mice is different from that reported previously. CNTs-Tyr was quickly delivered around the whole mice body and accumulated mainly in lung and also slightly in spleen and liver after mice were exposed by intravenous injection for 24hrs. The functionalized group of carbon nanotubes may have effect their affinity to organs. The results provide basic biological information for the biomedical application and risk assessment of CNTs.

β-NaYF4:Yb,Er nanoparticles (NPs) are one of the most efficient upconversion materials, which can convert near-infrared light to higher-energy light through multiple photon absorptions or energy transfer. In addition, they may be attractive alternative donors for luminescence resonance energy transfer (LRET) studies, because of their sharp absorption and emission profiles, high quantum yields, large anti-stokes shifts, long lifetime, low toxicity, and superior photo-stability. In principle, many problems of fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET), such as excitation of acceptors, emission overlaps between donors and acceptors, high background noise, potential toxicity, and instability, can be overcome using β-NaYF4:Yb,Er NPs as energy donors. Because the organic coating induced separation can significantly reduce the energy transfer efficiency and aqueous FRET system is difficult to be applied in devices, we demonstrate a novel NP-dye LRET system in solid state. The emission of the β-NaYF4:Yb,Er NPs at 53. nm overlaps with the absorption of the tetrametrylrhodarnine isothiocyante (TRITC), satisfying the requirement of LRET process. Since TRITC molecules are adsorbed on the β-NaYF4:Yb,Er NPs by an electrostatic interaction, the interaction distance is suitable for LRET without any further modulation. The resultant solid LRET system is ready for the further applications for devices.

＜正＞ Conventionally, supported metal catalysts are prepared by impregnating supports in aqueous solutions containing active metals. The properties of catalysts prepared by this method are not fully reproducible because of high surface tension of water. The most evident fact is to lead to inhomogeneity in distribution of the metal supported. Moreover, this inhomogeneity will be usually enhanced during the calcination process at high temperature.
