On English Rhythm Level of Nonnative English Learners

摘 要：Rhythm is one of the important elements of Prosody. Research shows rhythm plays a primary role in language acquisition and competent language use. But most EFL programs give little attention to sentence stress and rhythm, and rarely deal with them as a separate unit, i.e. rhythm is largely ignored in foreign language learning materials and language teaching manuals. This thesis aims to explore more closely the function of English rhythm in English language learning. The results of the empirical study indicate that Chinese Ss do show the differences from native speakers in English rhythmic patterns. The results also reveal that rhythmic pattern is tightly connected with sound changes in the stream of speech such as linking, weak form, elision, etc.
