Background: From May 2018 to September 2022, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) experienced seven Ebola virus disease (EVD) outbreaks within its borders. During the 10th EVD outbreak (2018–2020), the largest experienced in the DRC and the second largest and most prolonged EVD outbreak recorded globally, a who risk assessment identified nine countries bordering the DRC as moderate to high risk from cross border importation. These countries implemented varying levels of Ebola virus disease preparedness interventions. This case study highlights the gains and shortfalls with the Ebola virus disease preparedness interventions within the various contexts of these countries against the background of a renewed and growing commitment for global epidemic preparedness highlighted during recent World Health Assembly *** text: Several positive impacts from preparedness support to countries bordering the affected provinces in the DRC were identified, including development of sustained capacities which were leveraged upon to respond to the subsequent coronavirus disease 2019 (covid-19) pandemic. Shortfalls such as lost opportunities for operationalizing cross-border regional preparedness collaboration and better integration of multidisciplinary perspectives, vertical approaches to response pillars such as surveillance, over dependence on external support and duplication of efforts especially in areas of capacity building were also identified. BACKGROUND:Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games was the second Games held amid the covid-19 *** a certain extent,it has altered the way sporting activities *** is a lack of knowledge on injury risk and illness occurrence in elite winter sport athletes amid the covid-19 *** study aimed to describe the incidence of injuries and illnesses sustained during the XXIV Olympic Winter Games in Beijing from February 4 to 20,***:We recorded the daily number of injuries and illnesses among athletes reported by Beijing 2022 medical staff in the polyclinic,medical venues,and *** calculated injury and illness incidence as the number of injuries or illnesses occurring during competition or training,respectively,with incidence presented as injuries/illnesses per 100 ***:In total,2,897 athletes from 91 nations experienced injury or *** 2022 medical staff reported 326 injuries and 80 illnesses,equaling 11.3 injuries and 2.8 illnesses per 100 athletes over the 17-day ***,11%of the athletes incurred at least one injury and nearly 3%incurred at least one *** number of injured athletes was highest in the skating sports(n=104),followed by alpine skiing(n=53),ice track(n=37),freestyle skiing(n=36),and ice hockey(n=35),and was the lowest in the Nordic skiing disciplines(n=20).Of the 326 injuries,14(4.3%)led to an estimated absence from training or competition of more than 1 week.A total of 52 injured athletes were transferred to hospitals for further *** number of athletes with illness(n=80)was the highest for skating(n=33)and Nordic skiing(n=22).A total of 50 illnesses(62.5%)were admitted to the department of dentistry/ophthalmology/otolaryngology,and the most common cause of illness was other causes,including preexisting illness and medicine(n=52,65%).CONCLUSION:Overall,11%of athletes incurred at least one injury during the Games,which is similar to the findings during the Olympic Winter Game

The unexpectedly outbreak of covid-19 in early 2020,as a public emergency,has impacted the way of human behavior deeply and widely in today’s society,including the countermeasures of typhoon-related disaster risk reduction and preparedness in the Members of Typhoon committee(TC).This paper briefed the impacts due to covid-19 pandemic on activities of the committee in 2020;introduced the countermeasures took in National Hydrological and Meteorological Services(NHMS)of TC Members during typhoon season in 2020 for coping with the crisis caused by covid-19 pandemic;summarized the innovative strategies and countermeasures for dealing with the crisis of special or emergency public situation for typhoon-related disaster risk prevention,preparedness and reduction in future based on the review and analysis of the experiences from Members and international/regional agencies,and the outcomes from TC Integrated Workshop and Annual Session,including strengthening meteorological and hydrological services and value of preparedness;enhancing multi-sectoral coordination mechanisms;promoting the mobile-based data transmission and information dissemination;and increasing installation of home-based hydro-meteorological monitoring *** paper also discussed the impact-based forecasting and the application of big-data and AI technology in typhoon-related disaster risk reduction as two new key areas to be taken into consideration in TC updating Strategic Plan 2022 e2026.

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of Baidu Jieduan Granules(BDJDG) to treat common type coronavirus disease 2019(covid-19). Methods: This multicenter, retrospective, and observational clinical trial included 230 common covid-19 patients in Leishenshan, Huangshi, and Laohekou Hospitals in Wuhan from January 21 to March 26, 2020. The included patients were further divided into two subgroups according to the use of supplemental oxygen, mild and moderate groups. During the first 14 d of hospitalization, all patients were administered BDJDG combined with conventional Western medicine, and observed for continuous 28 d. Primary outcomes were disease progression rate and discharge rate. Secondary outcomes included negative conversion time of nucleic acid, hospitalization duration, clinical symptom subsidence time, and symptom regression rate. Results: A total of 230 common covid-19 patients were analyzed(138 in moderate group and 92 in mild group). By day 28, the disease progression rate was 4.3% and the discharge rate was 95.7%. All mild cases recovered and were discharged from hospital. The median negative conversion time of nucleic acid of all 230 covid-19 patients was 12 d [inter-quartile range(IQR) 3.5–17], the median hospitalization duration was 15 d(IQR 12–20). The median time to fever, cough, and fatigue recovery was 4 d(IQR 2–6), 8 d(IQR 5–12), and 8 d(IQR 5–11), respectively. The recovery rate of fever, cough, and fatigue was 94.6%, 90.5%, and 93.5%. The median time to clinical improvement was 12 d(IQR 10–17). Compared with the baseline, total leukocyte, neutrophil, lymphocyte, and platelet counts were all increased significantly on days 7 and 14(Pcovid-19.(Registration No. ChiCTR2000030836)

As the first international sporting event scheduled since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus disease 2019(covid-19)pandemic,the Beijing XXIV Olympic Winter Games were officially held in China between the 4th and 20th of February 2022.1 According to the International Olympic committee(IOC),there were approximately 2900 elite athletes from 91 National Olympic committees competing in 109 events during the 16 days of the Games.2 In fact,under the conditions of a global pandemic,mass gatherings during large-scale sporting events represent a conducive environment for viral transmission given the close,prolonged,and frequent interactions between participants;this includes an increased risk of transmission of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2).

The emergence of SARS-Co V-2 variant of concern omicron BA.2 led to high infection incidence rates as well as reduced severity of covid-19 during the Shanghai Spring epidemic of 2022 [1]. We assessed the role of viral pathogenicity and the effectiveness of inactivated vaccines in a retrospective observational study including 10 258 confirmed covid-19cases identified between April and June of 2022, from four covid-19 designated hospitals located in two areas of Shanghai, namely the West Bund and the East Bund, where the populations’ demographic characteristics varied significantly (Table S1, Fig. S1).

Objective:To investigate the clinical symptoms of coronavirus disease 2019(covid-19)patients with and without B.1.1.7 ***:This retrospective observational study included covid-19 patients who were divided into two groups,the mutation and the non-mutation *** characteristics,clinical characteristics,laboratory parameters,and mortality rates were recorded and compared between the two ***:A total of 196 patients were included in the *** relationship between the mutant virus status and sex,age,comorbidity,survival status,and disease severity was not significant(P>0.05).No significant differences were found in duration of hospitalization between the mutation and the non-mutation group(P>0.05).However,there was a statistically significant difference between patients with and without mutant viruses in hemoglobin,mean platelet volume,procalcitonin,low density lipoprotein,iron-binding capacity,potassium,calcium,C-reactive protein,folate,creatine kinase myocardial band,D-dimer,and international normalized ratio(Pcovid-19 patients is required for all variants.
