Parasympathetic function can be assessed by the deep breathing test (DB) as a simple and reproducible cardiovascular reflex. The aim of this study is to use this test to compare the vagal response of a young footballers group to of age-matched untrained normal subjects. Deep breathing test was performed in 2 groups: one of 20 adult young footballers (average age of 19.3 ± 0.6 years), and a second age-matched group of 20 untrained subjects (average age of 19.6 ± 0.6 years). Subjects underwent the DB test after 30 min resting in supine position, and responses were expressed as a percentage of variation of heart rate during the stimulation. Student’s t-test was used to evaluate statistical differences among the two groups for all parameters (vagal response, heart rate, VO2max….) and considering p heart rate was significantly lower in footballers than in the controls group (52.1 ± 7.4 bat/min vs 69.8 ± 14.3 bat/min, p < 0.01). The use of the simple test of deep breathing allowed us to demonstrate that adult young footballers have a significantly lower basal HR and higher parasympathetic response in comparison to untrained subjects.

Although emerging studies from high-income countries investigated the relationship between sedentary behavior(SB) and cardiovascular risk,little evidence came from developing ***,the benefits of reallocating time from SB to physical activity(PA) on incident cardiovascular disease(CVD) are *** three cohorts from the Prediction for Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease Risk in China project,we included 93 110 adults who were free from CVD at *** proportional hazards models were used to calculate the hazard ratios(HRs) and 95% confidence intervals(CIs) for CVD,including stroke,coronary heart disease,and CVD *** substitution models were applied to estimate the per-hour effects of replacing SB with *** 5.8 years follow-up,3799 CVD cases were identified.A gradient positive association between sedentary time and incident CVD was *** to those with 10 h/d sedentary time,*** participants were cross-classified by SB and moderate to vigorous physical activity(MVPA) level,the CVD risk was highest in those with> 10 h/d SB and 5 h/d sedentary time,per-hour substitution of SB with light,moderate,and vigorous PA reduced incident CVD risk by 5%,6%,and 8%,*** study first found that sedentary time was associated with increased incident CVD risk among Chinese adults and that substitution of SB with PA of any intensity could convey cardiovascular benefits among those with> 5 h/d SB.

Emerging heart-on-a-chip platforms are promising approaches to establish cardiac cell/tissue models in vitro for research on cardiac physiology,disease modeling and drug cardiotoxicity as well as for therapeutic *** still exist in obtaining the complete capability of in situ sensing to fully evaluate the complex functional properties of cardiac cell/tissue *** to contractile strength(contractility)and beating regularity(rhythm)are particularly important to generate accurate,predictive *** new platforms and technologies to assess the contractile functions of in vitro cardiac models is essential to provide information on cell/tissue physiologies,drug-induced inotropic responses,and the mechanisms of cardiac *** this review,we discuss recent advances in biosensing platforms for the measurement of contractile functions of in vitro cardiac models,including single cardiomyocytes,2D monolayers of cardiomyocytes,and 3D cardiac *** characteristics and performance of current platforms are reviewed in terms of sensing principles,measured parameters,performance,cell sources,cell/tissue model configurations,advantages,and *** addition,we highlight applications of these platforms and relevant discoveries in fundamental investigations,drug testing,and disease ***,challenges and future outlooks of heart-on-a-chip platforms for in vitro measurement of cardiac functional properties are discussed.

AIM:To study if impaired renal function is associated with increased risk of peri-infarct heart failure (HF) in patients with preserved ejection fraction (EF).METHODS:Patients with occluded infarct-related arteries (IRAs) between 1 to 28 d after myocardial infarction (MI) were grouped into chronic kidney disease (CKD) stages based on estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR).Rates of early post-MI HF were compared among eGFR *** regression was used to explore independent predictors of ***:Reduced eGFR was present in 71.1% of 2160 patients,with significant renal impairment (eGFR < 60 mL/min every 1.73 m2) in 14.8%.The prevalence of HF was higher with worsening renal function:15.5%,17.8% and 29.4% in patients with CKD stages 1,2 and 3 or 4,respectively (P < 0.0001),despite a small absolute difference in mean EF across eGFR groups:48.2 ± 10.0,47.9 ± 11.3 and 46.2 ± 12.1,respectively (P=0.02).The prevalence of HF was again higher with worsening renal function among patients with preserved EF:10.1%,13.6% and 23.6% (P < 0.0001),but this relationship was not significant among patients with depressed EF:27.1%,26.2% and 37.9% (P= 0.071).Moreover,eGFR was an independent correlate of HF in patients with preserved EF (P=0.003) but not in patients with depressed EF (P=0.181).CONCLUSION:A significant proportion of post-MI patients with occluded IRAs have impaired renal *** renal function was associated with an increased rate of early post-MI HF,the association being strongest in patients with preserved *** findings have implications for management of peri-infarct HF.

Objective:This study aimed to evaluate the major adverse cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events(MACCEs)and overall safety profile associated with iodixanol in Chinese patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI).Methods:Patients at 30 centers in China registered in the OpenClinic v3.6 database from October 30,2013,to October 7,2015,were included in the *** primary endpoint was in-hospital MACCEs including target lesion revascularization(TLR),stroke,stent thrombosis,cardiac death,and PCI-related myocardial infarction(MI)within 72 h *** endpoints were MACCEs from 72 h to 30 d post-PCI and other safety events within 30 d ***:A total of 3,042 patients were *** incidence of MACCEs within 72 h post-PCI was 2.33%(n=71),including cardiac death(0.03%,n=1)and PCI-related MI(2.30%,n=70).The incidence of MACCEs from 72 h to 30 d post-PCI was 0.16%(n=5),including cardiac death(0.10%,n=3),PCI-related MI(0.03%,n=1),and TLR for stent thrombosis(0.03%,n=1).The incidence of composite angiographic or procedural complications was 2.86%(n=87);233(7.86%)patients had results suggesting contrast-induced acute kidney ***:These findings indicate that the use of iodixanol in Chinese patients undergoing PCI is associated with a low incidence of MACCEs,confirming its safety in this population.

Blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygen saturation were monitored prospectively during 40 echocardiography recordings on 17 preterm infants (25-29 weeks; 510 -1430 g), to examine whether echocardiography can be performed without disturbi ng cardiorespiratory status in preterm infants. There was no impact on absolute blood pressure. heart rate increased by a mean of 4 beats per minute, and oxygen saturation decreased by a mean of 1%during echocardiography. While these chang es reached statistical significance they are not of clinical significance as the y remained well within ranges seen during control rest periods. All readings had greater minute-to-minute variability during echocardiography but differences were small and again remained within physiological ranges.

Objectives: To investigate the negative chronotropic response(NCR) to low-dose atropine in postoperative patients with congenital heart disease(CHD). Background: Low-dose atropine causes a NCR through the central nervous system muscarinic receptor and is attenuated in adult heart failure patients. It has never been evaluated in CHD patients. Methods: NCR corrected for basal heart rate(HR)(minimal HR/-basal HR=cNCR) was determined after low-dose atropine(3 μg/kg) administration in 124 postoperative CHD patients(97 biventricular repair and 27 Fontan patients) and 11 controls and was compared with the cardiac autonomic nervous and functional status. Results: The cNCR in simple CHD(post atrial or ventricular septal defect closure), complex biventricular CHD, and Fontan patients were 0.92±0.04, 0.94±0.04 and 0.96±0.04, respectively, and higher than in controls(0.87±0.03, p< 0.001). In the complex CHD patients, higher cNCR was mainly associated with the lower pharmacologically determined cardiac parasympathetic nervous tone(PST), HR variability, high atrial natriuretic peptide, and lower right ventricular ejection fraction(p< 0.0001). In Fontan patients, the lower βsensitivity of the sinus node and the PST mainly determined the higher cNCR(p< 0.01) and the cNCR did not correlate with either hemodynamics or exercise capacity. Conclusions: NCR is attenuated in proportion to the impaired cardiac parasympathetic nervous system and hemodynamics in postoperative complex biventricular CHD patients. In addition to PST, βsensitivity of the sinus node significantly influences the NCR in Fontan patients.
